I hope someone that reads my comment finds this useful in some way. For context, I am an adult male that has experienced childhood trauma added with the the increasingly common absent father. These things had left me with emotional "impairments" from childhood that became more obvious and hindering as I got older. I was going through the darkest time in my life a few months ago. I was a dead man walking, literally. I was at the point of ending it all, the cowardly easy way out. I was desperate to find anything but having experienced drug use in my 20's I knew that was not the path of truth and enlightenment. Long story short, I ended up trying psilocybin a few months ago. I don't know how to explain it properly but all I can say is I woke up the next morning like a new person. I felt a calmness, I got up from bed and looked around me and felt peace, gratitude, and love. Love for myself and things around me. The things that might have aggravated me before now make me smile and shrug off. It was like a switch was flipped in my mind while I slept after my experience with psylocibin. I didn't even take enough to have a deep trip! But I was changed somehow, all the anxiety, depression, anger and resentment vanished completely. Even now when I explain it, it doesn't sound real. But all I can say is it literally saved my life. So if you're reading this, don't give up, no matter how hard it may seem. There is hope! I've been listening to Jordan for 4 years but sometimes we need something that makes a change internally. Words aren't enough for some of us when our mind is broken.

For a year I used psilocybin I didn't tell a single person in my life, I waited untill my spouse (military) was on a 6 month overseas job, Nobody knew but me, That way I could record my experience without outside biases , I took it 3 days on 3 days off and a 2 to 3 week break every 5 weeks , It completely eradicated my ocd It completely eradicated all auditory and visual hallucinations It stabilised my mood to the point where people close to me were pulling me aside and letting me know they see a huge postive change in me, My social anxiety was massively reduced, My paranoia was massively reduced, It completely eradicated my underlying want to drink achohol (even though I would only drink mabey once a year I always had a feeling or need to think about it) I was able to remember an incredible amount of repressed memory's starting within the first week ! It has changed my life and in turn It has changed my children's lives I have stopped contact with my toxic family, I have seperated from my spouse I have never been as healthy Mentally or physically, I cannot recommend it enough for people such as myself Who have experience trauma with a capital T as they say, It has helped my "wake up" I know that there is a danger in unearned wisdom, but as a jump start in a controlled environment I think psilocybin could be life changing.

Nice! I always love to hear when shrooms help. May I share? As well? I did a cap and stem together. Nothing big, just wanted to test the material. The maxim of the high was like a dream state, it was that spot just before falling asleep. In my imagination, I watched this deeper part of me taking the wall covers off to reveal hundreds of nervous system paths, they were all tangled together and when an emotion would erupt it would fire through those other ideals as collateral too. Where it was like yours is that when I became sober, I didn't have to contemplate the truth.l, I just felt it within and the depression was non-resonant. Only side effects was, that I felt like I was in the matrix again. I saw everybody's programming. I reintegrated after a few days. Minus that crippling pain. Thanks for reading.

It felt as though the mushroom had spread itself across my sensory array because it was seeking to experience the existence of what had consumed it. I had very sad traumatic thoughts coming up, which the mushroom 'entity' was trying to communicate that I should just laugh them off and be happy. I could not, and thought that this 'entity' doesn't understand the implications of my thoughts, and the associated pain. It was really cool actually. It then populated my lungs and reprimanded me for smoking not in words but making them burn to a worrying amount; quitting was one of my intentions for the trip, which I did do successfully the next day (although it wasn't just out of the blue, I had been preparing and weaning for months).

One major problem is personal efficacy. Psychology often only focuses on internal thoughts and beliefs and not the efficacy of the individual. A lot of stress can be generated by the external world if one is incompetent or struggling to manage the external world. This can be both an individual and societal problem. The extremes on both sides blame either the individual or the society but psychology often focuses solely on the individuals perspective and self beliefs which can be a waste of time or ignoring the serious external problems the individual needs solved. I think this happens because a lot of times the external problems are difficult if not impossible to solve and it's easy to analyze a person's thoughts and provide interpretations of their beliefs and perspectives that can give them a re-frame but will not hold in an onslaught of external problems if they aren't given new abilities or knowledge that can help them solve the external problems and become more efficacious.
@johnsmithers89132 жыл бұрын
The stress is, in part, due to our schizophrenic society. To be able to face and survive in this world, one must be, to some degree, aggressive, or at least fight for a place in it. This means, you will often need to beat and compete with others. But society, frowns on competition, frowns on men competing and becoming dominant. Simultaneous they frown on incels, products of a society putting males in a social straightjacket. In a world where you are damned if you do and damned if you don't, the stress (and hopelessness) prevails.

Decades later (2 decades of therapy later) I still struggle with issues of poverty, complex ptsd, marginalisation, societal abuse etc etc. especially at this time of the year(Christmas period which is a huge trigger!) I healed immensely after the majority of my enemies died by natural attrition. But I still have a long way to go. I am currently 57. Sometimes it seems hopeless but I have created a life for myself even under worse circumstances. Miracles do happen. I am still a work in progress. Re: Rebirth - so, rough childhood, by the time I got to my 20's I had a lot of issues with how I viewed myself and how I interacted with others. I started using mushrooms and each session was a hyper-real first person training video..."look, this is what you said to this person...this is how it made them feel", I could feel what the other person felt...I was shown the consequences of my behaviour...this happened over and over and over. It wasn't all bad - after each lesson I was shown funny things, so each session had me laughing then crying then laughing then crying. Mushrooms are absolutely the thing I needed to straighten me out...once the very rough edges of my character were resolved, we started to shift gradually in to more spiritual matters, for want of a better term. I used the drug over a period of 30 years...then they asked me stop and suggested I take up yoga. So I did. When I say that the mushrooms were "life-changing"...it doesn't come close to capturing the positive influence they had on my life.

6:58 I've thought for a while that many of the things that are conceptualized as psychopathologies are actually the effect of an error in learning analogous to the pianist building the habitual system of playing the wrong note. To tie this to how we treat psychopathologies with drugs, we treat these things like they are static when they really might be a form of "bad learning" at a deep level that we just can't yet "touch" because of their subjectively experienced nature. Things like Cognitive Behavioral Training I think are the start to this, and I've wondered if things like Neuralink might be the next step by being able to track neural activity of an individual throughout the day since this is really where these maladaptive strategies play out.

1:33:33 is so important: the epiphany trap combined with the tremendous emotional punch.. Plus the current hype about psychedelics is not addressing the problem of risking your mental health with psychedelics: if you are prone to react hypersensitive to dopamine like 1. people on the paranoid schizophrenia side and many people don't know that they are prone to develop paranoid schizophrenia until they took it and then you are fucked for life (!) or 2. you are already on the schizotypal or 3. bi polar spectrum, which again is connected to too much dopamine in your system already or 4. you are very, very high in openness etc. Too much dopamine release at one time - (which is basically what psychedelics do on the neurotransmitter level) is NOT a good experience for anyone! Those warnings should be out there, because it's reality. There's a bloody reason why they stopped clinical experiments in the eighties with psychedelics and like so often, the history is forgotten. And now those young researchers are repeating the same "psychedelics are the answer" bullshit philosophy like the hippies in the 70s... I am not impressed nor surprised about the fact that a huge study found out that a) they couldn't replicate the hopeful findings of small experiments. It's said that even one dosis of psychedelics can alleviate severe depressive symptoms. However, results were quite mixed and they found out that the results were not as great as small studies (with methodology design problems) promised!! But big pharma is rubbing their hands already.. b) The main reason why one researcher will shout out "we have great results" is that they do not use double blind trials with randomly assigned adults. Which they did in the huge study, and what a surprise, they couldn't replicate the findings. c) Plus they critized that former hype studies don't measure long-term effects. d) Plus they found out that those psychedelics is the answer researchers minimize the negative effects. for example half of the patients had an INCREASE in suizidal thoughts and those hyping researchers interpret that as "normal for depression". WTH? Really? d) Another finding was that the dosis of psychedelics wasn't a "1 mg micro dose" for resistant depression. It was much higher to have an effect (it was 25mg, which looks little but it is not ).. e) And the biggest problem is that 77% of patients had adverse effects like severe headaches, nausea and no matter how small the dose, they had suicidal ideations or wanted to hurt themselves. Read this again: suicidal ideation or behavior or self injury occurred in all dose groups. If you have major depression and are suizidal, you should not risk increasing your downwards spiral. -->That's exactly what JP says when he questioned if an increase in openness (= high dopamine) combined with high neuroticism (=negative emotions like in depression) is maybe not a good idea... I couldn't agree more!

Quick note: I’m a huge fan and believer of synchronicities. As soon as I started typing Mr. Peterson mentioned Mircea Eliade. I’ll speak more on Eliade In a bit. I’m 46 years old and I’ve been in and out of institutions since the the early 20s and suffered from addictions most of my life. I’ve lived a rather exciting life coming from a small border town in (Laredo) Texas. LSD did improve my life as well as this medication called Neurontin which I’ve been taking since 2012. It’s fair to say that Neurontin made it so much easier for me to remain sober for 10 years away from cocaine, alcohol and Xanax. I’ve also been an avid church goer for over 2 decades so haven’t given up on spiritual faith yet I’ve develop a lot of faith on Tarot readings as well. I do my own readings and use them as psychotherapy sessions. Back to Mircea Eliade, It was last year when I got fed up with my own cowardice and lack of responsibility. I remember I watching Malidoma on KZbin which happens to be a gifted healer while starting to read Rites and Symbols of Initiation by Eliade. Lets just say all I remember is that there’s 6 countries in the world where in order to be welcomed to adulthood (Rites of Passage) an adolescent has to be left in the middle of wilderness for 24 hours while the village dresses up as beasts, monsters, etc. I chuckled after that because I remember blowing on a cake on my 18th birthday, I think I did since I was always under the influence but I was always “mommy’s little boy.” Well anyways, for some reason since 2 years ago the Law of Attraction new age philosophy was the biggest trend at that time in our city and out of spite I decided to manifest something that till this day I have no idea why I was hateful and ruthless against myself I felt at that time. I just didn’t feel love for myself whatsoever. And well, it went a little something like this: The way people describe God sounds like they’re describing processed cheese. God, Jesus… murder me twice than thee. I remember calling 2 of the most responsible adults in my life and explained to them what I was doing and why. I guess I was just bitter and thought that if I really want to “love” I have to prove it first. And so since then I’ve been on this incredible journey that I don’t feel is useful to say because my out of the world experiences will be shot down and I want to remember them as valuable to me. Let’s say when you get on a intense spiritual journey, everything that comes out in daily tarot reading, daily scriptures and mental spiritual downloads coincide with each other. Thankfully this past Monday, December 12,2022 my son was with me before, during and after evening Mass that he got to witness first hand what I’ve been trying to explain to other close friends which still doubt me. It was this year January 11, when I completed my first spiritual journey which I have 2 witnesses that know about it. Around that time I had very little sleep for 3 nights and it felt better than winning the lottery, hard to explain but I was filled with never felt before excitement and awe. Then on my birthday I attended evening Mass and to make long story short, I just remember how it felt while at Mass, it felt as if all my mental and spiritual gifts were stripped away. In other words, scripture that day was: “you fool you were suppose to be like Jesus not Mr Hollywood Star.” So after I got home with my tail between my legs and so torn apart from left to right, top down… I had to announce online about my immature and grave mistake, since I have a bunch of people that consider me a local “influencer” in town. Sorry if I digress but my life keeps getting more serious yet I have to pray and meditate for valor since it ain’t easy. It’s not for the faint of heart. Blessings to all.

I'd like to thank Dr. Carhart-Harris for being one of a handful of researchers who are conducting this extremely important work. Thank you to Dr. Peterson for providing a platform to inform people of this work, and for helping to destigmatize what will likely be the "breakthrough" in how we approach mental health.

As JBP said at approx 35:00 it has to a base function. If we hypothesize that the "fight or flight" response is over active then that would put the depressed person in a state of constant stress. The impairment of of executive function (self control, planning etc.) could be due to it being over ridden by the fight or flight response. The F or F could be so strong that it could suppress/skew all? the higher order functions such as complex/adult self image ( I'm a rotten and worthless person), ability to socialize (RUN cuz this is a dangerous situation what ever the situation is). If executive function is walled off/isolated due to the F or F response (can't stop to think it through when the tiger is about to eat your head). Psychedelics may break down that wall and re-integrate or strengthen the exec. func., allowing a change in self image, learning, memory, emotional regulation. Tripping on shrooms, DMT MDMA is an integrative experience???? OK roast me for my rantings

I really liked the discussion around play vs. domination, and how a mutual benefit is maintained in play necessarily, or it ceases to be play. I have been thinking recently on cooperation vs. competition on a larger social scale. For example, let's look at the need to quell cancer. Supposing in the current socioeconomical climate (let's call it capitalism), a cure for cancer was found and could be converted to pill application. What would be the likely outcome? It would be patented and sold for as much as could be economically justified compared to other forms of treatment. May well result in a $10,000 pill. Suppose a different socioeconomical system (apart from capitalism) in which cooperation was esteemed, instead of domination, what could the outcome yield? The formula could be shared, scrutinized, improved, perfected, and scaled in a exponentially higher level of efficiency and effectiveness, with a network of skills and knowledge that cannot be duplicated by any size of organization or resources in a domination (competition) format. I have not explored a large breadth of scenarios, but I feel fundamentally, this logic seems to hold weight. I would love to hear others' thoughts on this train of thinking. What is cooperation doing for growth, that a large scale cooperation, motivated in a similar direction could not provide and/or improve upon?

It’s easy to play with ideas in conversation with someone in your daily life because you can see their reactions and facial expressions as you play, for instance, you can gage approach or intensity and adjust appropriately. Using social media however, I could be getting too close to the edge for someone’s comfort, but there’s no way to gage it until after I’ve already written the thought or argument and hit the send button. That’s a problem I think with social media, there’s no attunement (is that the right word? Synergy, alignment); constantly either one or the other is leading with each response, receiving zero facial or body language cues. My thought might take me to the edge and I’m having fun, but the reader may go over and I wouldn’t know it until it was too late. And unless you know someone, you don’t understand their personal sensitivities either. What’s a beautiful ring of golden knowledge for me may be another’s horrible rope of despair. It’s like trying to play with your eyes closed - at the cliff’s edge! Most of the time I think it doesn’t pose a problem. But when people are passionate about a topic or issue, things can get uncalibrated. This probably doesn’t have anything to do with psychopaths, they could care less if their blind or not I would think bc they aren’t playing to begin with. They’re just out to harm. By the way, I almost passed this one up because of ‘magic mushrooms’ but this was so much more than the title indicated. Glad I stopped in to listen. Carhart-Harris is a very interesting guy~

A kind of throwaway comment in this discussion, if we can call it that, that I am very interested in is the notion that mania is the impulse or ability of cognitive and category reorganization, but what it is missing or or has some defect in is the catalyzation. So, in effect, you have the upwelling of arguably increased perception plus generative activity, but the ability to transform that into something sustained and useful on the back-end is compromised. Either way, it's like going through the trip without any back-end shift. There's the experience of a rapid-fire experimentation with different connections, but nothing actually gets rewired. As I think about that more, there's also a component to mania which often involves returning to essential narrative or delusion, and so in that sense, it's like there's all this hyper experimentation with new connections, while at the core, there is this very rigid catalyzation, or what they are referring to in some places as overlearning. It's interesting that even in this kind of whirlwind of potential new connection generation, there is this rigid overlearning that stands at the center, unfazed and untransformed.

10:50 ok so this situation hits really close to me. My dad honestly is the worst man I have ever met, and it's true it calibrated my brain so that It wasn't tuned to genetic people, which may I add are totally dull, some parts of me are greatful for my trauma as it didn't accustomed me to hate man, but rather to see the world in such a different lense and that sometimes is a blessing and a curse. It is such an automatic incorrect assumption, but it did lead me to over analyze everyone's personality to the way where I can profile it correctly, but my situation growing up opened a relationship with me and my mind where I perhaps spend a lot of time overthinking and analyzing myself and others, to the point of dissecting myself in a way where I don't recognize. I specialize in finding the flaws of broken people or people who have actually lived a traumatic live and the trauma that created those flaws. Not justifying them just knowing why they are the way they are, but things turn so much darker when I do it to myself. I wonder what specifically made him go to the man hating scenario though, considering its a father he dismissed the affection that an offspring might have for their parents regardless of their monstrosities, kind of surprises me that he so willingly overlooked that. It makes me question on wether he was trying to appease his Main audience which Is dominantly male.

49:13 Wouldn't schizophrenia be a better example of a pathology of creativity? Manic depression strikes me more as a result of too much extraversion and neuroticism. Then you can, hypothetically, map out pathologies associated with each of the five-factor model of personality: High openness: schizophrenia. High conscientiousness: OCD. High extraversion: mania. High agreeableness: Munchhausen? High neuroticism: anxiety/depression. Then there would be pathologies that correspond to too low degrees of these factors (e.g. narcissism = low neuroticism) and combinations of several factors (e.g. manic depression = high extraversion and neuroticism). Note: when I say "high," I mean overregulation by the system providing corrective behaviour rooted in a particular factor.

So under Robin's idea, psychedelic experience is physiologically and psychologically similar to natural high-stress dissociation and near-death experience. I wonder if our ancestors that did a majority of the evolution of the human organism had more regular/frequent high-stress experiences (lion attacks, etc.), and if this led to more functional/adaptive "mental health" (or less frequency of chronic depression/pathology). And then if psychedelic use became more regular in safer societies of people as a way of getting the same "fix." I am curious about how/if PTSD manifested in earlier people as well. It seems to me like PTSD is only recognizable in people that are now in a non-traumatic environment.

I hope this proves to be somewhat helpful: ego is a circumference of a circle, within a circle is a pure abstraction, no meaning, so it can become whatever it needs to be. Outside of what the ego perceives is reality which is the opposite of abstraction: absolute meaning since it can't be anything else. Ego is the mediator between the those two extremes and just an aspect of personality. So it is the job of the ego to filter and to function as balance between the two extremes: abstract and absolute. The ego actually dissolves/recycles perceived reality to create personality. And personality is a pattern which finds/creates meaning from abstraction (in conjunction with reality), the personality is the only pattern which ego can recognize. A perhaps fun fact that personality may contain more than one circumference, like ripples in water and reality is the stone that makes them. Unfortunately that sometimes results in disorders rather than layers of being and perceiving. So i think that probably all psychological 'disturbances' originate from perception of empathy gone awry. And maliciousness is not the core of a disturbance, it's the consequence. For instance, empathy is not how someone feels it's how 'i' feel or it wouldn't be empathy. So I'm guessing that some ego may perceive empathy as a false reality because it introduces a strange/new type of 'self' which doesn't fall into a typical patten within personality since it originates from a different form of abstraction or pattern of meaning formation. So empathy to an extremely rigid ego might seem like an intruder since it's a non familiar pattern which implies chaos...

To me this episode could be summed up as a discussion of the permeability of honeycombs - if your brain were composed of honeycomb cells full of dreams/temperaments/traits/neurons/stars dust/photos/galaxies-of-photons/electricity/energies, etc etc and they’re actually capturing/articulating this idea using an array of real life, applicable, examples. I really wish he had all his conversations in person though. I think we’re suffering from lack of the element that creates. Petersen’s reddening quality is that he can almost get away with this because we always do seem to walk away with armfuls of fruit. I also dare to dream if I could handle a conversation with him on his podcast - I wish he would just talk to the average joe sometimes - it would ameliorate the bridge between white and blue collar by us who carry out the spirit Petersen puts forth in our own custom, yet aligned, way. I enjoy Jordan’s step down from the intellectual heights when he humbled himself and draws on personal examples, it’s at that resolution that we’re hook, sinker, and bobber to the damn grill 😂. I’d love to throw some of my wrapped ideas on the table in front of him and see if he turns on his father-mode, God that would be funny and feel so therapeutic haha. Now. Phone down. Laundry again. 😂

When playing pretend with my little cousins, they do act out very serious and even frightening narratives, I ofc do play along and try to introduce some "morals/sense" into the script; whilst also letting them act upon there fantasies to an extent. This is more of a thing with boys than girls it feels to me, the worst my little cousins who are girls do is "eat a cupboard full of sweets" or "run away from home" whereas my little cousins who are boys "kill me" and "go to prison" . Playing "police" is also so interesting. I find the exaggerated drama they play out to be vry interesting too, the way they exaggerate and imitate things they have seen irl. I do find a lot can be said for children in their "pretend" games, they do use them as a template in which to understand the world and themselves it feels to me. I feel as adults we do also play in this game of pretend too in the real life.

Interesting... When they were talking about rebirth, I immediately thought about Frank Herbert's Dune saga. In many of those books, characters are fundamentally transformed or reborn through traumatic experience. For example, Duncan Idaho is reborn thousands of times. His clones 're-awaken' to his past memories, always through intense pain. Intense experience triggers a "hard reset" in many of the characters.

Consciousness arises when you can remember a sequence of events in a logical/predictable manner. In a way, it turns chaos into order by imposing itself. It reveals the non-chaotic nature of chaos, by placing mutable rules unto it, which creates an illusion of order we call order. The Universe is not orderly, our subjective perception of reality is. There is no mystery to this, consciousness is the easiest thing to explain because it's in all of us self-explanatory. We are simply just raised to not listen to that intuition, because no culture in existence today remembers how to echo that ancient, ingrained, and genetically printed wisdom. The instruction manual to your mind is inside you, you just can't believe it would be that simple.

There is a reason why the wise of the past warned against them (I'm thinking Buddha in particular). There are no shortcuts. Perhaps they can be helpful in the short term. Although I knew that subconsciously; having it put in words this way makes it much clearer to understand. When we put effort into making good habits our brain will begin to make those good habits happen without us thinking about it is.

Anyhow, you shouldn't dismiss them without knowing the terrain intimately yourself. It's like saying that someone speaking of a foreign land or deep earth crusts that have never been probed is false because you yourself haven't been there or haven't seen it yourself. I'm not saying T.M. is right by default or in all his points, but I found that things of his which I dismissed at first have come to make sense more and more to me over the years the more I have come to understand what he actually means. I've had a similar experience. Went to AA and everything, thinking I was doomed to the destiny of alcohism. I left AA, didn't try very hard to quit. Kept waking up to that drink. One day, woke up, and it was over. Maybe I have a drink once a month, it's been at least three months where i sit now. No cravings, nothing. Just casual drinking if I'm in a socal situation where it's appropriate.

I had that but I switched to other stuff again unfortunately. So without that I can see how strong of and experience that would be if not using something else.

Dr. P. Masterclass for all mental health pract. Excellent views on perception Dr. P. It is my hope as this topic develops in the mental health field, we take a slow approach with topics like prior addiction, the marketing of this topic, family studies-origin, other applications such as dementia or brain injuries. Basic ethical considerations Dr. P. Once good studies are done, how will this be used with AI to rewire the brain in a positive direction. Yes, unlearning negative behaviors of addiction through positive ritual replacement. A larger question sir is how larger organizations will adopt this topic into their mission statement to help people A great deal of gray areas Dr. P. Good work sir. Keep it up.

I wondered all the time my whole life about why God loves us so much. And I've never been able to come up with anything in 39 years until right now. I think it's because we put our eternal souls on the front lines in the battle between good and evil, here on Earth in bodies of extremely sensitive flesh completely exposed to good and evil with faith alone guiding us forward

1:00:45 This applies to dogs too. A dog will offer a "play bow" (invitation to play) to the other, and if accepted they'll play. But lets say you own a german shepherd and a small terrier/poodle type breed. The shepherd could destroy the little dog without even trying, but what you'll see is the big dog lay on its back and let the little dog play attack its throat and act like its the dominant dog, all in the name of fair play.

I'm extremely skeptical about psychedelics. It maps far too well onto the story of the fall in Genesis where Adam and Eve grab for knowledge and power that they are not ready for. I don't know how JP hasn't seen this connection
@MrThogin2 жыл бұрын
So you are saying Adam and Eve should be the only humans period (storyline wise not reality)

He’s strongly cautioned about seeking unearned wisdom before even if he didn’t mention the genesis story.

Some are ready for the beatific visions psychedelics have the potential to induce. Emphasis on SOME and POTENTIAL. Mystical experiences also come on naturally and spontaneously (as it did in my case in March 2013) so it’s clearly not a forbidden experience.

There's a lot of assumptions baked in there. The attainment of knowledge could also be seen as the awakening of consciousness in the Human experience, imbuing that which the knowledge is bestowed *responsibility*. Perhaps psychedelic's have played a role. But this is part of the human story. We might otherwise revert back to animals
@petemaguire86772 жыл бұрын
@@MrThogin that you Kathy Newman? No that's not at all what I'm saying. But psychedelic use was heavily regulated in the past by long standing societal traditions that grew over a great period of time. This ain't it

Terrance Mckenna once said, “Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to the commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it’s a featherbed.”

I used LSD yesterday, a small amount. In the middle of the "the trip" (you could barely call it one) I suddenly felt like I chipped my front tooth. It was a minor chip, but I felt it very clearly with my tounge and lips... My right front tooth was sharper and thinner.... I freaked out. When did this happen?! Then I remembered I had chipped that tooth 10 years ago! It seems to me like my brain had been filtering out the sensory input relating to it from entering my contious mind all these years... and somehow under lsd the filter fell away. Now it's the next day and the sensation is filtered out again, but because I remember, I can now focus on the tooth and still feel the chippedness with my tongue and finger. And I see in the mirror it's the same size as it was... barely noticible. Not sure what this says about how psychedelics work, but i thought it was interesting. General disclaimer: always get screened for manic depression and schizophrenia in the family before trying lsd or other psychedelics. Don't end up like Kanye.
