There’s a point in a man’s life where he says, if not now when.

Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Yamaha all have engines that could serve for an ADV 650cc twin class, they just haven't spent the money on them. Versys, V-Strom, and Tracer700 are all entirely pavement-style bikes that can do a smooth gravel now and then. They aren't anywhere near the prowess of the 790 for getting off the pavement. If the Japanese quit skimping on suspension, hardware quality, brakes, tank range, they could actually compete in this category with KTM and BMW. Why not build Japanese machines at the same price as these Euro machines, with equally good hardware and the added bonus of the usual reliability?

I think that you will see more competition from all the brands in this segment in the coming years. We're definitely in love with this 790 but that certainly doesn't mean we're not super-stoked for the coming of Yamaha's Tenere 700!

Gorgeous. I would however not buy any bike in its first year of production. 2020 for me I think. I'll bet the T7 still won't be released then. Lol

Nothing wrong with a little prudence...

Yamaha has really really dropped the ball with the T7. More teasers, testing, prototypes than most car companies ever produce. It's like the original excitement is already gone and people are looking for other bikes.

That is true - I believe Dave was accidentally quoting the 790 Duke numbers. Thanks!
