About Us:
Hi, we are Trevor and Emma, avid high altitude adventurers based in Sydney, Australia. When not at home, we’re often found on an expedition somewhere in the Himalayas. Expeditions that come with both altitude and attitude!
After being on many expeditions exploring the world, the question was ‘what’s next’? Needing a new challenge and focus, we formed ProjectBase8000. The objective is to trek to all the base camps of the world’s 14 highest mountains over 8,000m. These mountains are located in the Himalayan and Karakoram ranges - Nepal, Pakistan and Tibet, China.

What month did you go? And was it tea houses the entire way? We’re planning on going in February, but I can’t find any information on whether the tea houses are open then

Hi and thanks for your comment! We went in April 2019 and there was a lot of snow that year especially over the Shipton La pass, so you should check weather and track conditions if going as early as Feb. We went with a climbing expedition so we had a mixture of teahouses and tents. We did meet a small number of trekkers using the teahouses just up to Base Camp (not Advance BC). There are not many villages/teahouses in this region and they're quite basic the higher you go and possibly only open in climbing season or the main trekking seasons of April/Oct. Covid may also mean the teahouses are not open or expedition companies may choose to use tents instead. It would be worth going with a reputable trek provider.
