I bought a used 2020 Sport and have put 20k miles on it over the past 2 years. I have driven it in deserts, over mountains, through bug storms, you name it. I love it. Still drives like new at 44k miles, just new tires, batteries, wiper blades and oil changes. Drove cross-country loaded with stuff, averaged 28-29 mpg (not AWD). Engine has enough hp, car handles great. Reliable, safe, decent mpg, fun to drive. All the safety features. Happy owner. Impressed with Mazda.

Thanks for your review. I found your approach very practical and pragmatic and useful for me. I have a CX5 on order and due to pick it up in a few weeks. I am encouraged that you still retain many positive thoughts about the car after two years and when that new car romance has had time to evaporate.

Nice review. I have to say, some do care very much about handling and the way it drives. That’s why I bought the cx-5 over other suvs. It’s really fun to drive, and the steering is great for an suv. It’s turning radius is surprisingly good. The interior has an upscale feel to it as well (grand touring). A great choice for an suv that offers reliability, sportiness and semi-luxury in one vehicle. 👍

Great review, good points avout the A-pillar and lane assist. I think I'm fine with just the radar cruise control for now, but maybe I'll consider the CX50 if that has it when it arrives! Beautiful car, thanks for the review!

Very pleased with my CX5 (2.5 non turbo charged engine). Totally agreeing with your remark regarding the A-pilar. Take some time to get used to and a point of attention for new buyers (at first got a few times surprised by bicycles at a roundabout, totally hidden by the pillar bars). Other than that: superb driving SUV.

I have a 2019 CX-5 turbo AWD with 36K miles. It still drives like new. No warranty problems. I have not noticed the A pillar problem mentioned here. There is a bit of wear on the seat as mentioned here and the display has a bit of crinkle on the surface, both issues are minor. The ride is a bit more harsh (sporty?) than my wife likes, I don' have a problem with it. The adaptive cruise takes some getting used to. It is nice to have on long drives where you don't have to worry about hitting a slower vehicle in front of you. I love the heads up display! The volume control takes some getting used to but after a while the position actually makes sense. When the engine is cold the engine "hunts" (rpm goes up and down) a bit for the first 30 seconds. I think the problem is in the design of the software. Lots of nice stuff and seems like great value. My only complaint is with the dealer service. Services have been $70 to $90 for oil change, tire rotation, inspection and wash which is reasonable. The first one was free the next four have cost a total of $320 so not much expense so far. However, the 36K service was presented as $360 or $270 or $90 for essentially the same work. Read what they do carefully before signing on to it. Since the cabin and engine air filters are easy to change I don't have them to it. They charge a lot of money to replace a filter that you can get from an auto parts store (or Amazon) for less than $20 and replace yourself. Happy that I did not spend over $2K for the prepaid service package. A woman with pointy snake skin boots tried her best to convince me that it was in my best interest to purchase this package. Her dishonesty was over the top. So, bottom line, the car is good but watch out for what the dealer is doing.

Thank you sooooo much for this video! It’s amazing when I find exactly what I’m looking for. I currently am in a Mazda 3 hatchback and am about to have our first child. We put the rear facing car seat in and was astonished to find that basically, no one can fit in the front seat with the car seat behind it 😣 Strongly considering upgrading to a CX5, not only for more safety in a bigger car, but wanted to be sure that I’d get more space in the backseat and in the trunk. You don’t know how happy I am that you answered exactly what I was looking for. I still think I want to test it by putting a stroller and car seat into an actual cx5, because our car seat might be bigger than yours, but this video is great. Double the points being that I vowed never to get a brand new same year car again, and am looking into 2019s. Thank you again ❤

Mazda corporate has commented on the lane centering feature you mention. They state Mazda lives by the driver's car, and therefore, they won't be having that feature in the near future. They have added sensors so the car will beep at you and flash a light on the dashboard if you start leaving your lane, but it won't steer you back into the lane. I have that feature on a Buick Envision. It is okay but if you are trying to avoid something or someone headed at you on a two-lane road, and you go to the right the car tries to push you back into the lane - where you don't want to be. So the feature is not great in all situations (if I had time to signal right before crossing the line on the side of the road in that emergency situation, the car would not try to keep me in lane).

I love my Mazda! I have a 2019 for 2 years.as well with about 20,000 miles. My complaint and its not mine, but it's from a passenger is the neck head rest in the back seats are not very comfortable or useful because of the design for really tall and not average size person. My Grand Touring is great over al.l I love the seats how comfortable they are for short or long rides. It's over all a great purchase.

I bought a certified pre-owned 2019 CX-5 Grand touring. I can definitely say that I do love the electric seat adjusters on the side. I use both of them for either local driving or highway driving. I bought my car with 19, 5k miles. That's why I was interested to see how owners of the car felt after that much time. The car's drive is wonderful and I love the ride in sport mode. It crushes going uphill and I can't wait to test it out in the mountains. I don't have an issue with the a-pillar but I do have an issue with the way the seats feel. The driver side seat and the wheel take some getting used to. I have broad shoulders and even with the lumbar support.... I'm still not comfortable. It's only been two days since I bought this car and I hope I can set a configuration that works. However it looks great...it drives great... And I'm looking forward to more adventures. Thank you for your solid review. It reinforces the idea that I made the right choice after searching through so many models of cars. Lastly, the cargo area... I bought a rubber mat to go in the back because the cargo area is very slick without an aftermarket mat. I also brought a privacy cargo screen to shield my trunk's content. I live in a mid-size City and security is definitely an issue.

Wow, me too. 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring reserve with the heads up display. Great car. 18,000 miles. Low mileage lease return. You're right about the seats. Could be a little more supportive. Have to admit the seats in my wife's car BMW X3 are more supportive even though the car is an overpriced VW as far as I'm concerned. So far I added the wireless cellphone charger from Amazon. Very handy. Steering wheel feels a bit slick. Could have given it a little more texture. I might get that steering wheel gripper from Amazon. The only convenience feature that I'd like is a tiny bulb in the homelink buttons. Not so easy to hit the right one for the garage at night. Other than that, great car. I actually bought it rather than lease a new one, cause I plan to pile on the miles. Can't deal with a 3/36k lease. I'm in NYC metro so it's a lot of stop and go and sitting in traffic. I'm gentle on cars, got a 192k out of my Chevy. Around 20k a year. Took a bad hit, totaled, so now it's the Mazda. Good luck to you.

Adequate power yes definitely. If money is no issue? Hard to say maybe turbo? It would definitely be nice to have extra power on tap just for the fun of it sometimes. I hate that there is no easy way to turn the radio OFF. The button on the center console is a mute button. The next time you start the car, the radio comes blaring on. If you press and hold the button, the entire infotainment system turns off. You don't even get the clock! To turn the radio off, you have to go at least 3 levels down in the (non touch screen) infotainment system. C'mon, Mazda, give us a button that turns off the radio until WE turn it back on again, that doesn't seem like too much to ask. Otherwise, I like my 21 CX-5 but I will not repurchase.

Never understand why people hang silly distracting stuff on their mirror. It’s actually illegal in some countries, for good reason.

good looking in an out, but terrible engine. It's a GDI. carbon is building up. It won't be long till the engine blows.

People usually put 100,000 miles in a car in a few years in the united states. 20,000 miles is not enough to form an opinion on reliability

I get that it would be nice to see reliability over 100k miles but there's very few 2019 cx5s with that many miles, and definitely not ours so I can't provide that. our cx5 does have 30,000 miles now and I plan to post updates every year or so. Hope people find this helpful
