I own a Mazda 626 Sedan in Prestige Silver Metallic colour, 1990 model (fully imported from Japan) ... bought brand new in Melbourne, Australia as a gift from my father for my 18th birthday. He paid $32,000 Australian dollars for it back then! It's now 32 years old, has done 500,000 kilometres (310,000 miles) and l continue to drive it daily. Has never failed me. Unbelievable car. I cannot part with it. My first and so far, only car ...!! It still looks like new and has always been outside for its entire 32 years, so far. People cant believe it! Six weeks ago, l purchased the 2022 Mazda 3, also fully imported from Japan. I am expected to take delivery of it at the end of July. I am keeping my 1990 Mazda 626 (the love of my life!) and will never part with it and intend to drive both cars! Love and warm regards from Melbourne, Australia.

I love this comment because my family car growing up and my subsequent first car (& 2nd) were 1990 626's. Our family car did 450,000kms when it went to a friend of ours to learn to drive at their farm. I then bought the same model for $900 and it too was bulletproof. Happy to hear I'm not alone in my love of the ol 626 😁

Lifelong Toyota fan. Was looking at getting a Camry, but their laziness in getting production/output to the customer made me look elsewhere. So, test drove, fell in love with, and bought a CX-5 last week-but not the turbo. Dealership was very eager to come off the price and add some incentives, So far, very happy with my new car, and the standard options are really high end. The only difference is MPG. I'm getting 25 city and 35 highway, but still too early to tell. But for $6K less than the Camry, I'll be able to pay for for gas for years to come, and break even. Thanks for the review.

Of course you should buy a CX5, it is the best built vehicle on the market. It also is NOT a globally sourced vehicle, it is 95% made by Mazda in Japan. And NO CVT!!! Toyota HAS NOT engineered ANYTHING for Mazda...Right now Mazda's engineering is superior to Toyota. And is why Toyota wants to partner with Mazda. I'm so happy with my CX5 Signature, 3 years later and it still looks and feels brand new. The CX5 has a more driver oriented suspension tune....the bumpy you explain is driving performance. 3 years and I have never had an issue with the A pillars. Actually, I am shocked at how much I can see. I have no blind spot issues.

I have driven with a bunch of touch screens from different manufacturers (lots of rentals) and I hate them. I hate having to take my eyes off the road to focus on finding the buttons because you can't feel them. It might as well be messing around with a cell phone, it doesn't feel safe to me. On the other hand I love the rotary wheel. It's not just rotary, it's also a joystick so you can easily and quickly move between functions and screens all without changing focus from the road. The only issue was going into a 30-40 mph head wind each way and it reduced the rated highway mpg by 10 mpg. Mazda is still one of the few brands right now that prioritizes driving dynamics. The steering feel on Mazdas are great and don't feel soul-less. They also handle really well. You get used to the rotary knob for the infotainment but you are right in that they should have made it a touchscreen when using Android Auto/Apple Carplay. Also looking forward to the future electrified Mazdas that will be powered by Toyota hybrid tech.

My brothers 2011 Mazda 3 has been amazing and still drives well after almost 200,000 miles. His wife has a 2014 or 2015 Mazda CX-5 and it's also an amazing car, but with a lot less milage. For reliability it seems like Mazda might be right behind Toyota/Lexus. Honda and Acura seem to be having some trouble over the last 6 or 7 years. I've heard bad things about Honda's turbo engines, 9 speed transmissions, and overall build quality. I have a 2010 Honda Accord V6 with over 155,000 miles and it's had zero issues.

I have had my 2023 CX-5 for a week, I have a base non turbo model. I do not have the soft touch fancy stuff, I have cloth interior, no power lift gate, no button on the door handle, no sunroof, the old school style features is what sold me on it…just less stuff to break down the road. I would really like to hear this guys take on a non turbo 2.5l as far as reliability because this one I am going to be in for a while. I love how it drives and handles, I love how simple it is, and I really am not missing the features that I had with my 2014 Acura RDX even though I do miss it. also, with todays vehicle prices it is hard to find a functional and nice riding crossover for under $30k with 3 miles on it. besides that the lifetime powertrain warranty is national, so wherever I take it the warranty is good.

Didn't he say that the non-turbo engines are just as reliable? And everyone knows that turbo's naturally have more chance to break, as they strain the engine more, and have more parts that can break? He also clearly seems to suggest, that if the turbo has some problems, it will be expensive to fix it as the turbo is so hard to reach in the car.

Although, your videos are very detailed and helpful, however, I must add here that since I now have this car with me from last 4 weeks, I didn’t face any of the bumpy rides, A pillar, brakes or suspension problems as described in your video. I have had this exact car (2022 CX-5 Turbo) for 6 months and already put 20k miles on it as my work commute is far. I love this car, it is fun to drive, and have had no issues. I have not noticed the A pillar, but I agree a touch screen would have been nice. I like the button on the door and push to start as I never have to take my keys out of my pocket. The only thing I wish it had was a telescoping wheel. I am tall and put the seat back for my legs and have to reach a little bit for the steering wheel. Other then that, I have nothing but good things to say about it and I enjoyed the technical review.

We bought a 2022 CC-5 Turbo Signature Edition 2 weeks ago. We love it. It rides and handles as well as a BMW. It rides like a good german car. It corners great without body lean. Steering response is fast and accurate. It is faster than my 2018 Mazda 6 Turbo. It runs on regular and premium gas. With premium gas (93 Octane) the HP is 256 and it can do 0-60 in about 6.1 seconds. With regular it is probably around 7-7.4 seconds. It is extremely quiet. The interior uses great materials and would not be out of place in a Mercedes. The rear seats can recline a few inches. The A pillar is not as bad as he said it is. I have had worse on my Acura CL S type. I have only noticed the suspension bounce on 1 highway. The ride is firm and controlled. It is not floaty or overly stiff. The car feels well planted. The infotainment system works fine once you get the hang of it. The 360 degree camera is great and useful. The ventilated seats work great. My only gripes are the front seats, key fob and the interior lighting. They are not the most comfortable for me. My wife has no issues. I wish it was an 8 way seat. I am 5"9' 165lbs. The interior lights use the white LED lamps like many new cars and they don't put out enough light. Yellow standard bulbs put out more natural light and better light. He is right about the Key Fob. My wife had parked the car in a parking garage and came back to find the rear hatch open. In the video, he commented on the speedometer and dials on the dash screen. I find them nice and useful. You can also change them with controls on the steering wheel. The radio is adequate but if you use android auto or apple car play the stereo sounds great. It is a Bose system, so not the best. Bose is overhyped junk. My 2018 Mazda 6 has a Bose system and it is worse than the one in the CX-5 and sounds mediocre. In 2019, Mazda upgraded to a better Bose system.

I purchased my second one in July of 2022. I went with the Signature Turbo on this one for the 360 camera that was a “cool” feature when I purchased it. Turns out I use it way more than I ever thought I would! I LOVE THIS CAR! I know it’s safe. It drives like a dream. Like this review says it is super quiet going down the road. I actually prefer the control knobs for the infotainment system. I will admit it does take a bit of time to get use to using them over a touch screen but the location of the controls make them very convenient to use. I don’t mind the button to unlock the car. My first impressions I was blown away by how quiet it was and how smooth the engine and the transmission shifted amazingly. Super sporty ,yes the ride is a little bit more firm but that’s OK I feel like I’m driving a more sporty SUV! I have told my friends that the M does not stand for Mazda it stands for Mercedes quality and amazing quality, like Lexus. If you have not considered a CX5I think you should seriously take a look at it. My first 190 miles was on the freeway coming home from the dealer and I varied my speed for optimal engine braking. And I got almost 36 miles per gallon driving not over 70 miles an hour.

The only glitch was the side view autofolding mirror motor that was replaced under 10 year warranty. Love the handling, the ride, the quietness and even the the control knobb for the non touch screen during motion. We've had 2 Ravs. "06 V-6 AWD and an "07 4 cyl. Front wheel drive. Both were solid with great A/C and good road manners. 140k then things started to need work. The V-6 developed the cam cover seal leak, alternator/water pump and rear differential started the year out right. When it was traded the rear end was acting weird again. ($1600). The '07 4 cyl. started burning oil despite a good service history. Second owner ran it on up to 190k with no additional issues. The rear end problem was fixed by Toyota in the late 2011-2012 model years. The cam cover seal still wasn't fixed in 2015, 3.5 across all models. The 2.4 oil burner was replaced with a new 2.5 in 2009. So ideal RAV would be a 2012 4cyl. LTD, in 2wd or 4wd. The LTD with "Sport" pkg. wheels.

I bought an HR-V the other day. I kept a 2020 silver CX-5 as my plan B in case the Honda sold before I had gotten to it, just because the Mazda was a couple thousand more and gets lower mileage. Fortunately the HR-V was a dud (the battery was basically exploded- didn’t start the first time I tried), and I was able to jump it and take it back to the dealer to get my money back. Now I’m putting the same amount of money into a 2018 soul red 2018 GT I found somewhere else. Can’t wait!

I rented a CX5 recently. The touch screen works when the vehicle is not moving. In motion you have to use the control wheel. I actually prefer the control wheel.

Just FYI, the red markings on the grill are exclusive to the trims with the Turbo charged engine. It signifies from the exterior that it has a turbo

Ahh that’s it. I saw a video awhile ago about that and couldn’t remember the exact details but knew it had something to do with the trim.

Just traded off my 19 Subaru outback Friday for a cx-5. Thought I would eventually buy another outback. The cx-5 has a much lower sticker price than the outback I would had bought. My new Mazda has every option I wanted. Price is great, I don’t miss the touchscreen. Think I will be very happy with it!

I have the same A-Pillar issue in my 2020 Jeep Compass. Drives me nuts on shallow left curves or turns. This was a solid review, really appreciate you going over the engine build at the beginning.
