The audio in this video was recorded with in-ear binaural microphones. If you wear headphones, your mind won't be blown, but it will go, "woah, that's cool."
I'm also the producer for the Winding Road KZbin Channel:

Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly press vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole "woah" factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, it's pretty nuts. Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. Why are you still reading this, you should be watching the video. With headphones! Hah, had to sneak that in there one more time. Later!

3 things: - Incredible that a windshield projected HUD exists on a 27K car. That's just amazing. - Frameless rearview mirror, again at this price range it looks premium - That sound system sounded amazing, even though it's through a video recording I am glad to see how the transmission logic is still on point. It sounds like this is a car that at first you feel is underpowered and too refined, but if you take it on the bends, and use the paddle shifters w/ Sport mode, you'll find it has no problem keeping up and asking for more. At least, based on how you tried driving it at times spiritedly! If they do get the turbo in as they are hinting at, with AWD, that would be amazing.

Just test drove one of these. My current ride is a 2015 Mazda3 hatchback, bought new. The quietness is unbelievable. It reminds me of my friends Lexus LS. The AWD and G-Vectoring made it stick in the corners, and the retuned engine was a real surprise, loved the throttle response. I might get another one in a couple of years. Oh the interior is stunningly beautiful.

@CPHD it's a decent size, but when transporting 2 guitars in cases, an amp and a 2x12" cabinet, a hatchback is kinda necessary. Currently I drive a smaller car than the new 3, so it would be big enough for my needs, but unfortunally the NDs trunk isn't quite up for the challenge.

The cruise control is jerky because it remembers the last speed you saved. Instead of resuming your cruise control after disengaging it, you need to choose a new speed. This is a workaround to that issue, not sure if you can change the settings in the menu but that would be a fix.

I've owned four Mazdas over many years of driving ranging from a "626" in the 80's, an MVP AWD minivan in the 90's, an early Mazda6 successor to the 626, and a much loved but significantly flawed RX-8 in this century. All in all, I think I know the brand pretty well. Of the brand's current offerings I think the new Mazda3 ranks second compared to their rivals. The MX-5 is undoubtedly in first place. If Mazda built no other vehicle the Miata would justify the brand's existence. Behind the Mazda3 are the Mazda6, the CX-5, and the CX-9. The "6" is an excellent car but the 2.0L turbo Accord and the current Camry with a V6 are tough competition, especially the Accord. The CX-5 is a fine compact SUV if you prioritize its looks over its actual utility. But it offers less passenger and cargo space than literally every other SUV in its class. Only a few more cubic feet, in fact, than a VW Golf. The CX-9 is even worse in terms of comparison with its rivals. At 199" long it's among the largest midsize SUV's and offers less interior space than a Honda CR-V. You have to really love its looks to overlook its numerous weaknesses. (I'll skip the CX-3. The subcompact SUV class is better described as hatchbacks on stilts. Some may find them appealing but I don't get it.) In contrast, the Mazda3 both in sedan and hatchback form is arguably at or near the top of their categories. I prefer my GTI as a "hot" hatchback but the Mazda3 hatch is a very appealing vehicle in the not quite so hot category. Mazda has obviously decided that its corporate direction is to offer premium mainstream vehicles and to jettison its "mazdaspeed" performance reputation. Yes, Mazda might offer a turbo version of its Mazda3 engine but I doubt it and Mazda execs firmly reject the idea. And if you look at the performance of its ubiquitous 2.5L turbo engine in the Mazda6, CX-5, and CX-9 it's not difficult to understand. It's a very good engine but it's tuned more for satisfying torque than outright performance. That doesn't mean a Mazdaspeed3 would be the same but I suspect that trying to compete with Honda in the 4banger turbo performance arena is a fool's errand and would only serve to dilute the overall image of premium vehicles at mainstream prices that Mazda is committed to.

Seems like this: Honda = quick and reliable Toyota = reliable and normal Mazda = luxury and reliable Honestly for me, considering I don’t care how fast my car is lmao, I’d go with the Mazda 3 for a new car. It’s a good mix of all things, and there’s no company that beats Mazda in my opinion for a minimalist interior and luxury feel. Everybody knows Toyota has amazing reliability, and Honda I feel likes to throw a lot of gimmicks out there and it reminds me of that teenager brand where they are nice cars for your kid in high school when they like to go “bwahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, buwaaahhhhhhhhhhhh.” For me though, minimalist, enjoys the little touches and doesn’t really care about my cars .5 second faster 0-60 time, and usually gets a new car anyway every 100,000-150,000 miles, I’d go with Mazda 3. Now if I could afford it, my next car would be a Lexus IS 350. That car is just absolutely beautiful, and with Toyota’s reliability, what can go wrong? Speaking from a person that drives normally highway miles and does not live in the city, very nice roads with no potholes, and good people that don’t rob you and I could literally leave my car unlocked during the night and never have to worry. ( do I do that, no) also I can cover about 35-40 thousand miles in a year.

Went home and read up and realized it was cheap and problem riddled unlike many model years of Jettas that were kinda solid simple engines despite the high maintenance. moveaxebx it’s a thing with the car industry, they think every generation needs to be more powerful, 180hp is about perfect for a car like this, plenty of power to overtake and safely get around without getting into performance territory.

I have the 2018 premium package - this car is very beautiful, the interior is even nicer than mine. My friend bought this car and I drove it - I really loved it but the AWD really needs a turbo 2.5 as it's not as fast as my 2018 2.5 front-wheel drive - it felt underpowered.

Mike McGlock exchange rates considered, that would be the Megane RS. I’ve read and watched many reviews on this car and not one person has complained about the torsion beam. Many commented that it actual handles better than the outgoing generation. These are people whose job it is to drive cars all day long. Mazda wouldn’t risk their reputation for well handling cars if they thought they couldn’t make it work well.

Those of us that like manual transmissions are being punished, unfortunately. A 2018 Mazda 3 with the 2.5 manual was around $22K, now you have to buy the $28K hatchback just to get a stick. Looks like a Honda or Toyota next time around .

I really love the look of the new 2019 3 both inside and out. I'm probably the minority here when I say this but I really feel like Mazda need to step up their engine power. A sub 200 horsepower engine in that nice looking of a car, especially with AWD, just feels...off. It's like they made everything more "premium" except the engine. And this is the only reason I didn't trade in my 2015 Mazda 3 for the 2019 one. Not to mention the X engine which is rumored to make even less power...How do they expect to sell a more expensive engine with less power? If they are able to tune the 2.5G over 200HP or even better, put the turbo from the 6 into it, I'd imagine there would be so many more buyers and I know I would trade my 2015 3 for it in a heartbeat.

Nick Marsden you are exactly right- I’m a Mazda salesman and I own a 2015 Hatch GT manual and I’m not pleased about the power - everything else is absolutely outstanding... the NVH is wow, not to mention “Polymetal Gray with the Red Leather” 🤤 Hopefully voiced public opinion will force their hand as it did in the Mazda 6 and CX5 🙏🏾 hopefully that includes a manual as well
@nickmarsden8129
@nickmarsden8129 5 жыл бұрын
@@Palowaski Yup the NVH was the only other complaint I had with the 2015 model and now that's fixed the only thing is the power. I get that it's naturally aspirated and all...but a 2.5L only producing 186HP is just insanely low. Espeically that this generation's 3 got 200lbs heavier, it's gonna be even more sluggish. Maybe in the future they'll offer a 2.0 skyX as a mid-tier engine and the 2.5T skyG as the best option...hopefully. I really want to get another Mazda but if they keep putting underpowered engines in their cars then sadly no. I really don't understand why Mazda is so afraid to put more power in their cars. Miata is a perfect example. Took them what? 5 years? to up the power from 155 to 181.

Nick Marsden the only other compact car with AWD is the Impreza and it’s 147 hp engine. If you think the Mazda is slow then what about the Subaru? The 186 hp engine is the highest NA engine in its class. Don’t get the AWD version then.
