The audio in this video was recorded with in-ear binaural microphones. If you wear headphones, your mind won't be blown, but it will go, "woah, that's cool."
I'm also the producer for the Winding Road KZbin Channel:

Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly press vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole "woah" factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, it's pretty nuts. Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. Why are you still reading this, you should be watching the video. With headphones! Hah, had to sneak that in there one more time. Later!

Where Lexus makes the top number 1 on the list of best vehicles for more than a decade now, Toyota, no surprise at second for 2018 and jumping 10 spots to third was Mazda. You can certainly see why. They've upped the game with class leading interior and exterior. Love the AWD now included in the Mazda 3. Will definitely be considered for my car in 2020. Although the steering ratio has been noted by many reviews as not great compared to the competition Crosstrek which has the same steering ratio as the BRZ and the ever so slow gutless Honda HRV. I don't know why they discontinued the independent suspension system and go cheap with the torsion beam? They say it's good though. I guess I will just have to test drive and see for myself. May not like the knob infotainment, but could be better than the touch screen everyone else uses. They've improved it apparently. Sure is a beautiful car both inside and out.

I should clarify what I meant with the parking brake: every time you put the car into park the parking brake automatically engages. When you put it into drive or reverse it automatically disengages when you tap the gas (if you have your seatbelt on). You can disengage the parking brake manually too by pressing down on it. But there’s no way to turn off the automatic engagement of the parking brake when you put the car into park.

I really like your opinion on the power this car dishes out. Its definitely adequate around the city especially when you start to shift the car into more aggressive gearing where as a lot of other reviewers say its lack luster and needs a turbo charger blah blah blah (it would be a nice option). Personally I like the way a car drives when the power band is not just limited to the low rpm range where it just knock the piss out of the front tires and you get torque steer or messy wheel spins since the awd in this car tends to kick in when there's snow or in wet conditions.

Took one for about 2 hours on and off the highway and on a notoriously rough road and i concluded that this thing is quite possibly the best compact car one can buy. I absolutely loved it. If i covered the badges and sat someone in it, they would probably think I sat them in a BMW. Even I was surprised at the quality of the interior. And with Mazda’s bulletproof reliability, i cant really fault it for anything. No CVT, a punchy engine, all the doo-dads one could really ever want in a car all wrapped up in a neat little reasonably priced stylish package!

tekz yea I agree, besides, people saying Mazda cheaped out are stupid lol the car literally costs thousands more than last year. They took that savings and used it to improve other areas of the car like the interior. They didn’t save any money, they just moved the took the cost from one part of the car and redistributed it to other parts without sacrificing quality. Extremely smart on their part

Traded my white 2015 GTI Autobahn for a 2019 Mazda3 Premium hatch with the AWD in Polymetal grey. 💯 agree. It’s a fantastic car! No complaints. Could it use the turbo 2.5? I suppose. Sure. Options are always great. But the new 3 doesn’t need it. The naturally aspirated 2.5 is plenty good enough.
@BenKurth
@BenKurth 5 жыл бұрын
I traded away my GTI for the 3 just this passed weekend. Since then I’ve already burned through a tank of gas. The GTI averaged about 30-31 mpg. Great power / fuel economy in the GTI if driven responsibly. In my still very new AWD 3 I’m in the mid 20s. However, I do expect that to improve as the car cycles through its breaking in period. Nevertheless. The GTI was definitely quicker from a start. Turbo is key at that point. However, passing power on the highway between the two cars isn’t nearly as noticeable. Both cars handle an on ramp equally as well. The 3 is more softly sprung. But not at all floaty. Concern over the 3’ torsion beam rear end is overrated. It’s not at all anything to be worried about from a handling perspective. The centerpoint Bose audio system in the 3 is a step or two above the GTIs Fender branded system. Thus far I’d say the turbo power and the highly bolstered but still comfortable seats mark up wins for the GTI. But in every other metric the all-new 3 beats the GTI. At the end of the day. In my mind. The turbo power advantage and the deeper bolstered seats weren’t a good enough reason for me to keep the GTI. I had put almost 89k miles on my GTI in 4 years. Bought it new in April of 2015. Never had a mechanical or electrical issue with the car. My experience with the GTI was rock solid. But. At the end of the day. The biggest factors that played in to my purchase of the 3 were... AWD. Build quality. Handling. 5 door hatch availability. Styling. Continued reliability. Also a car companies racing philosophy carries a good deal of value inside my pride of ownership. That, and the local car dealer network. I work in downtown St Paul, Minnesota and there are two great Mazda dealerships nearby. Side note. Minnesota is also home to a very healthy euro car culture. In the very end I did compare the 3 against the CX-5. The CX-5 lost to the 3 due to the infotainment screen and center armrest positioning. And the turbo motor in the CX-5 (while very nice) couldn’t erase that.

Is it just me, or did the gauge lighting change repeatedly from blue to white to blue? The arrangement of the main gauges is certainly attractive, with classic, round dials (even though the speedo display is actually digital). As far as the hatchback's wide rear quarter panels, a number of car makers are now calling some of their 4-door sedans "coupes," but this hatchback actually looks more like a sporty 2-door coupe - with a couple extra doors added for convenience. That may have been Mazda's intention, to contrast with their sedan version, and I like it.

When you said $30,000 i thought oh that's a steal for a brand new car... Then i realised that's in USD and i live in Australia. After currency conversion it's roughly $42,000 and that's not worth it in my opinion... It's not really a matter of "can't afford it" it's more so a factor of "If i'm going to pay that much at least give me leather seats" The things that it has are incredible for a daily driver/economy/Mazda car but the fact that it's "Mazda" makes me feel like it's not worth spending the 42k

They didn't fix the rear parking camera, rather Mazda has two different modules that it uses depending on whether the car has the 360 camera or if it's a rear view camera. The 2017 mazda cx 5 had that rear camera on the Grand Touring, but when the signature came along, it got replaced by the lower resolution module that the cx 9 uses. Just wanted to point that out since I've seen others talking about it.
@nicoschu
@nicoschu 5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but that's not true. The Old MZD connect wasn't made for 360 view, they can't handle all the image inputs, so they reduce the resolution on the software side. The rear Camera Module is always the same except in the MX5 and Mazda 2. The same Camera-Modules are used on the new 3, but the new MZD connect can handle it on the software side, so you get there a pretty good quality. The old MZD Connect is being used in every Mazda except the new 3.
@quirksandfeats

They will bring it back, they would be stupid not to. It's already been said recently that there is already more pressure inside for them to develop a new speed 3. There main problem is simply sales, they need products to sell more to have more money, to make sporty models. Hang in there! It's not completely dead yet!

Adam sure but you get a lot of other things, that’s the thing about this car, Mazda cherry picked the things that made the most sense. This is honestly one of the most carefully and thoughtfully designed cars in a long time. Auto folding mirrors probably costed too much and the old models didn’t have it anyway so they decided to skip it in favor of something else. This isn’t a BMW or Mercedes it’s a Mazda, but it also isn’t a Honda or Toyota, it’s somewhere in the middle so it’s got its compromises

FYI for everyone and input for you as well Chris, Just went to my local Mazda dealership to switch from winters to summers on the car and checked out the new Mazda 3 while waiting. I was adjusting the seating position before I got in the car, and the plastic area where the seat adjustment controls are was loose and flimsy... :/ the leather seat was also making a squeaking noise when it was being adjusted since the bolsters rub against the central cubby. I’m a huge fan of Mazda but those two things threw me off quite a bit. That won’t define every Mazda 3 but just a bad first experience for me.

I like the fact that in europe I can still get the manual in every trim level for both sedan and hatch and is cheaper than automatic. Definitely going for Skyactiv-X here as otherwise I'd be limited to the 2.0L 122hp engine which definitely holding this car back a little, anxiously waiting for the SkyActiv-X engine to be launched, likely going for a Sedan Machine Grey Metallic (the Polymetal grey is my favorite but it's not available for the Sedan). I'm more of a hatch guy and have eyed also Civic hatch but this time around I think I prefer the Sedan mostly because of the small rear seat windows and gigantic C-pillar (have to think about my fellow passengers too when driving to lunch) and the glossy back of the hatch while looks cool I have a bit concerns for how it would hold up. Decided to wait for Mazda 3 2019 and glad I did, just need to wait for the SkyActiv-X engine to come out. The only real disappointment with the new Mazda 3 besides the Hatch small rear window/huge C-pillar design (I can live with the rear personally) would be that Mazda didn't add at least some more legspace for rear seats, especially when the Sedan grew that much in length, I'd anytime anyday shave off trunk space for rear passenger space, ideally the Sedan I suppose could have had more rear seat space as it's the more likely option ending up as a "family car" but I understand from a manufacturing cost-perspective it wouldn't make sense but it would have have allowed ppl good choices though.
@PAUL-ESNEED

I was considering the Skyactiv X but i think I'd rather get the 122hp G. The X is brand new and it's a question of reliability and whether mechanics will be able to keep up. The G has been in circulation for a while so it feels more grounded.

Was looking forward to trading in my 2016 for the new generation. Glad I didn’t do it. More expensive, still cramped, sunroof only on the most expensive trim, no touchscreen anymore(Mazda doesn’t even take full advantage of that nice sized screen), and not as fun as the previous generations. I’m a diehard Mazad fan. All three of my cars have been Mazda also. Maybe I’ll try the current generation Mazda 6 before they ruin that car. Get it together Mazda.
