Its a real AMG.. Ive been inside the Affalterbach engine room.. while they are "hand built" its a computer double checking everything and setting up everything computers even drill to a torque (to a spec) for the technicican.. its computer controlled hand built... 385hp..

Great review! Keep it up. However, the 43 (and 53 variants) of the AMG lineup are true AMG cars, hence the AMG badge. They don't need to be hand built. In my opinion, that's a lot of marketing and an excuse to charge more. They don't need to be V8 to be a true AMG either. There are plenty of "true" AMG's that are 4 cylinder engines. Furthermore, what does "hand built" mean? Are these mechanics forging each nut and bolt and assembling the pistons themselves etc. No, they are simply putting the parts together instead of a machine. So what? The end result is a great engine either way. Source: I own a GLC43 machine made AMG and a CLS55 V8 hand built engine AMG. Both are amazing! I don't care how they were built.

My best friend from college works at AMG as engine manufacturer. He told me this hand built propaganda is hilarious because the engines aren’t actually hand built. They are built the same way as every other Mercedes engine. Just Quality Control is tighter and the signature at the end of production.

Of course it's propaganda and all these lemmings buy into it hook, line and sinker. All the AMG Techs do at Affalterbach is assemble pre made components using pre-set torque tooling. I've watched the videos of what they do and there is nothing "hand built" about it... Hand built to me is having things custom machined, blue printed, sitting there and plasti-guaging the rod and crank clearances, degreeing camshafts. Back in the original days of AMG yes they were built by two men, by hand... Today the only difference between Affalterback and Sindelfingen is that in Sindelfingen there is some robotic assembly (there are still humans involved too). But propaganda sells and makes those C63 owners feel pride about how much they just spent... :)

It's odd that when you speak about the grill, you talk about the diamond grill, the Panamericana grill, and twin blade that is on your review car. But you reference that it's not very AMG with that grill. That grill came from the C63 though, before they switched to the panamericana. It's the 2017 C63 grill, so I wouldn't say it's not an AMG grill.

Every important component of the C43 has been engineered by AMG. It has an AMG suspension, AMG transmission, AMG all wheel drive system, AMG steering, AMG brakes, AMG wheels. And yes the engine wasn’t “hand built” by AMG but WAS engineered by AMG. But “ohhh it’s not a “real” AMG”! What a bunch of f#%!ing nonsense hahaha! I was going to buy a C63 because I listened to chowder heads like the one guy in this video and believed the hype about it. Then I drove it. It was a great car but frankly seemed jumpy and just not dialed in. Then I found out how inaccessible the 63 was. There were 30 coupes in the entire country. And ordering one would take 9-12 months! No thanks. So I test drove a c43 coupe and was blown away at how great it was. Why? Because it’s better at getting its power (albeit less then the 63’s) down to the road. The stock 43 coupe is able to hit 0-60 in the 4.1-4.3 range and with an ECU tune hit mid to high 3’s. I’ve seen tuned c63’s with 630 hp hitting 4 seconds flat. Oh and it sounded fantastic AND was $11k cheaper. If you’re in the market and on the fence do yourself a favor and give the c43 a test drive. Then make a decision before listening the 1 man 1 man engine blah blah blah hype.

Prathik Iyer yep same here. I’ve had my car now for over a year now and love it. Congrats on your ride as well! Ironically I have been watching these guys since this video and actually like them now lol (although I still disagree with the one dude regarding the c43 not being a “real amg”.) The c43 is not perfect and is not for everyone. For example the c63 may be more fun and at home on the track then a c43. And that’s cool. It doesn’t necessarily mean one is better then the other but are different cars built for different purposes. Just because one doesn’t have a “hand built engine” I don’t think that diminishes the “AMG authenticity” of the c43 based on how great the car performs overall. Just another side note-I’ve been taking my car to a local cars and coffee for the past year and it is always well received and well complimented (despite there being Lambo’s and Ferrari’s present every week lol). But not one guy has said to me yet this car is not a real AMG. These are m2, m3, m4 and even c63 and Porsche owners. Many even argue that “of course it’s a real Amg...why wouldn’t it be” haha! Enjoy your c43 AMG!

My individual settings on my E63S Wagon (current gen) is Sport+ everything with normal suspension. I find that delivers everything I want in every day driving-loud exhaust, quick engine response, smooth ride on the highways.

the general rule of thumb is that if you have a very rigid chassis, you want softer suspension. The whole point of suspension is to keep the tires on the ground. Less tires on the ground means less grip and less control.

I've watched ALL your videos. Never commented. But now I am compelled! This is my new (real world) dream car. I am a huge wagon lover. Always had turbo Subaru's and recently purchased a 2015 Volvo V60 T6 AWD. When I first saw that Canada was getting the C-class wagon, I was like, hell yeah! Its happening! Someone at MB has seen the light and is listening to all us car fans that lament shit SUVs, regardless of how many aweful go-fast bits and pathetic "sport" packages they throw on them. Just look at the monstrosity that has become of my beloved 06-08 Forester XT :( So was feeling pumped about the future of cool wagons in Canada, but then you realize its just a tease. Just like the 328iX Touring, and the A4 AllRoad, the C-class was only getting a 240HP-ish 4-banger econo-engine. Nooooo! The cruely. They are so slow -- anyone with $30k for a base WRX would dust you in these cars. So booo-urns. No thanks, not interested. (this is exactly how I ended up with the 325HP V60 T6) But THIS!! This is proper performance, in a perfectly sized package. The E63S is awesome, but its huge, and its massively expensive, and its more posh/luxury than most people want/need. This C43 is the price of a friggen Q5 Technik; and they will sell thousands of those. What are people thinking?!?! Its absurd. You guys are bang on in that its the perfect middle ground. And priced so that you can actually use it and treat it like a normal car, not a 6-figure investment that you are too scared to drive down a gravel road or put your dog or skis in. I just love it. I must have one. COME ON CANADIANS. Buy this thing so MB-Canada will see that there is a market and keep giving us all the cool euro stuff that we want! If they sell enough maybe BMW, Audi, and Volvo will bring their performance versions back to our market. OK, I need to go see how much I can get for a few of my non-critcal organs. PS. Worth mentioning is that the 4matic is 30/70 ratio . If you turn of the traction control you can easily make the tail hang out :) Traded my 2018 RS3 for a C43 and I have no regrets.

Almost bought one... Live in the city (no garage) and 2 young kids. Sold the Golf R and got a 2nd Audi SQ5 though...ground clearance and stance with air suspension. Less performance than C43 wagon, but more practical and ground clearance for unplowed street parkings... C43 wagon was not very comfortable even in comfort mode (coming from a Golf R). SQ5 is a pillow compared with air suspension.

When I ordered my GLC 43 AMG the 63S was not available in Canada. Then the V8 biturbo finally arrived but with less power then expected only 503 hp vs 603 hp available on E class... The marketing department at MB should let the folks from production to put the real V8 engine into the C class and/or GLC and create an ultimate machine or The Car(das auto is taken by vw).

At 8:34 Before the facelift it had a diamond grill but now after the facelift the C43 amg got the grill from the previous C63 amg. And now all 63 models have the panamericana grill and the 43/53 models got the previous gen 63 grill. Thats why you don't get the diamond grill in any AMG model anymore (excpet the "old ones). The exact same will happen with the E 63 facelift it will get the panamericana grill and the (currently with diamond grill) E43 amg will get the current E63 grill.

Jakub says the C43 isn't a super sporty car whilst the C63 is, but the C43 will best a C63 in a drag race or around a track in all but the most ideal road and tire temperature conditions, due to the massive traction benefit afforded by AWD, so what on Earth is he actually talking about? There's a reason so many performance cars are now going AWD, because the reality is that performance means little unless you can actually get the power down, and in heavy cars like this, AWD can really make a difference. Imo Jakub is too hung up on the politics of it (eg because the engine isn't hand built) and is letting it affect his rationale and logic. The C43 and C63 are highly comparable in terms of performance and sportiness, hell, after test driving both back to back, I'd even argue that the C43 may have actually been set up ever so slightly stiffer.

Jakub's spot on with regards to keeping the adaptive dampers in comfort mode for the street, especially if you have a custom mode(like my 2019 GTI Rabbit edition) which allows you set the dampers in comfort and set the other parameters to your liking. Decent ride and good handling need not be exclusive.

Sounds a little Porsche-like!! So good. I think this is a real AMG cuz well look at BMW ... they have a 340, and an M340 which you can argue is not a real M car. Mercedes has the C43 AMG, but no C43 by itself. Therefore real AMG! =D ... And thank god they have analog gauges!! #savetheanaloggauges #savethemanuals

Oh, and the 340i and M340i are from different generations, they were not contemporary trims in the model lineup. The G20 M340i replaced the F30 340i.
