Its your high pressure fuel pump for the DI system... Gen 3 coyote engines(18+) have Dual Injection, port and direct, if you hear a prominent tick that increases with rpm your coyote is running DI, if you dont then its fueling from the ports. "tick" is present on my 2020 f150 5.0 @

I have a question not about the tik but about warranty , does adding an aftermarket exhaust and headers affect warranty ?
@Red5oh4 жыл бұрын
Technically they have to prove the part caused it and it usually depends on the dealer. If you do headers and engine had issues they can void it for that specific part in this case engine. But if you install headers and have issues with your AC they can’t deny that. Despite all that some dealers are ok with minor mods

@Red5oh4 жыл бұрын
Matt Jones I would definitely change the oil to be safe. Good rule is to always change oil when you buy used car so you have a baseline. Small price to pay for “engine insurance” . Yeah tick has been shown to be more apparent when engine is cold. I’d see if anything changes after oil change. You could always have dealership look at it even though they will tell it’s normal. It’s good to have it documented in case issues arise later. Hope she treats you fine!

@Red5oh4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man!hopefully mine doesn’t come back
@Condor19704 жыл бұрын
The tick is most likely oil flashing due to higher pressures experienced in the bearings. It is even more noticeable now that the Gen 3 has increased compression ratio to 12:1. This is approaching diesel territory (15:1). The same engine tick is noticed in all Big-3 diesel engine trucks, Cummins, Powerstroke, and Duramax engines. It doesn't seem to affect the engine operation, as a I own a 2018 Mustang GT with 22,000 miles now. No issues. I do add a bottle of Ceratec every other oil change, and it does make a noticeable difference in the ticking sound level. However, it decreases the oil flashing because adding a solid lubricant will change that property of the oil.
@Red5oh4 жыл бұрын
Condor1970 You are correct as most of it has to do with higher compression ratio on Gen 3 coyotes. I’m glad you were able to find success with ceratec. I intend to do that too if I get the tick back. But overall since it doesn’t affect the engine operation like you said. I think this whole issue is blown a bit out of proportion
@marlinnotfish2 жыл бұрын
No offense but this makes no sense. Firstly what is oil flashing? I’ve never heard of it and would like to know if it’s a real thing or something made up. Secondly the theory about compression makes no sense. Compression ratio doesn’t relate to bottom end noises. A modern Diesel engine as you mentioned has average 500psi sometimes a little bit higher when their brand new. A 3rd gen coyote has 250psi. That’s half, and not to mention small block Chevys, fords, mopar engines run 12:1 all the time aftermarket and don’t make funny ticking noises. The diesels make a ticking that totally different that comes from the sound of its combustion, and injection processes. I sold my 2018 s550 because it sounded like a pull chain garage door when it was cold, ford refused to acknowledge the issue and said it was normal. I believe the engine has a number of design flaws, but it is an overall good engine. I wouldn’t be discouraged. Just use it, beat the hell out of it. If it lasts it lasts.

You sure it’s not the new fuel system they are using for the gen 3 5.0? Some high pressure direct injection cars have a “tick to them”. It’s just the way the fuel system works. And ford is using dual high pressure direct injection on the gen 3 coyote.

I like the spider man reference. The bbq tick can apparently be solved with a reprogramming at dealership from what i read from a blog thread. Im looking into this now. Also oil evaporation can be solved also with a free dealer solution. The engine doesnt burn oil looses it during downshift compression. New oil stick and programming and the problem is fixed. Check your oil as it shouldnt take more than 2 liters per 12000km. If so then oil stick and programme is required as a free dealer solution. Check my video as i talk about it
