Can the 2019 Nissan Altima elevate from the pack to compete alongside segment leaders like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord? With the arrival of all-wheel drive and the only variable-compression engine in the midsize-sedan market, Nissan sure hopes so.
Stylistically, the Altima has borrowed more than a few cues from its larger sibling, the Nissan Maxima. Rakish headlights, a large V-Motion grille, and the black strip in the C-pillar all aim to give this sedan a more aggressive look. Inside, however, the Altima blends in well with the competition, featuring a floating center stack and touchscreen.
Under the hood, you’ll find either a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine or a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that features Nissan’s unique variable compression technology. This tech is designed to deliver the fuel economy of a 4-cylinder and the power of a V6, and it replaces the V6 that used to be available in Altimas.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both standard, as is a suite of driver-assistance aids. Higher trims also employ Nissan ProPilot Assist-a mostly autonomous driving feature.

@@SnowyWolborg The fuel economy has not changed. The computer was updated, and radar changed. It turns so easy. No problems with the CVT. If you're a large person the car has more room than the sentra. I don't like the ground clearence. It is like a sports car. The front will scrape going up steep ramps. But it clears speed bumps with no problems. Braking is excellent. And ride smoothness is good.

To everyone complaining about the CVT, it's really not as unreliable as most think. However basically ALL of the vehicles in this class have some issue with them. Honda Accord 1.5T Oil dilution issue Hyundai/Kia Sonata/Optima catching fire Mazda 6 rust issues Subaru Legacy oil consumption and head gaskets I won't even get into the American cars because I'd be here all day. They've all got their issues, don't be a fanboy, pick your poison. The Camry is the only one I'm not aware of some big issue right off the top of my head, but part of that is because I've never looked and have no desire to own one...

I own altima 2013 since then and i drive it like crazy and i doubt any Korean would stand like it. it is indeed and great Altima I like it and would like to own it again and again specially after owning 2 Hyundai Elantra and accent with a lot of problems and gear failures! Nissan is way to go in my experience!

the 2019 Nissan altima does not have cooled seats. They just have heated seats. I work at a nissan dealer and i drove several of the new ones and it actually was really nice.

That gaps were deliberately there to let air into the engine for more cooling which makes your car runs more efficient. Haha Just BS. It's quality control and that's why they are able to sell for less not tighten quality on the car.

I have one since June last year. She rides very well and confidently. No wind noise but does have a bit of road noise. Is very comfy on long rides and has plenty of power when you want it. Plenty of passenger space and a huge trunk. I really love mine and wouldn't trade it away. Great price point and the stereo even on the base model is really good quality. I hope this helps.

2022 comment: Wanted an Altima, but now the used ones cost as much as the new ones shoud cost - they're all ridiculously priced. I'd love to find a used 6 cyl but I'm having a hard time when I find one, they want too much money - 28 grand for a 6 cyl, 25 grand for a 4 cyl.

They pretty much are. I know your comment is from a while back, but you can get an Altima SV for about $5,000 less than a Rogue SV optioned the same way. You pay a pretty hefty premium for that high seating position.

Not mentioned in this review is that the Altima is a pig off the line. If, for example, you are in the left lane at a light, and you realize that you need to make a right turn at the next light, then forget about trying to get ahead of the car to your right. Once the Altima gets rolling (maybe 25 MPH), then it has good acceleration. But from a standstill? Forget it. Most of the time, this will not be a problem. In fact, it could be helpful for folks that are not good drivers, that might spin the wheels. Or, perhaps Nissan figured out that this would help with fuel economy? There is no switch (like a sport mode) to circumvent this. Nissan detuned the Altima, preventing it from having any balls from a dead stop. Lastly, the stereo is for people that are not interested in sound quality. The bass is not natural, and the speakers do not work in harmony. You can hear each speaker. With a well tuned stereo, you should hear only a wall of music, with voices and instruments coming from various locations (and those locations do not necessarily correspond to speaker location). With a well tuned stereo, the speakers become invisible. This is not the case with the Altima. Cheers!

There is no button on the shifter (at least, not one that has the functionality that you claim). I drove the car. I asked the sales personnel. I asked the service manager. There is nothing in the car to press, switch, or toggle, that disables the de-tuning from a stop. You are looking to stir up trouble. You are a troll. A car guy would know that CVT accelerates faster than the old school automatic transmissions, and saves gas. I drive a first-generation CVT and it's awesome.
