Nissan pulled out all the stops with their latest Altima. Whether you're looking for the latest in turbo engine technology, loads of standard features, or affordable all-wheel-drive, the Altima has a great deal going for it. Yes, you read that right, AWD is now an option. Unlike other midsized sedans that gave offered AWD, Nissan decided to make it a $1,350 option on any trim including the base model which rivals the Subaru Legacy for AWD base model value. Nissan decided to toss in their latest safety gadgets, CarPlay and Android Auto, and some next generation zero gravity seats for good measure. The result leaves the Maxima in the dust and provides an interesting alternative to the Camry and Accord. Can it beat the Japanese competition? Maybe, depending on what you're looking for.

For daily driver, riding to work back-forth I don't plan to transport horses and cows in the cabin. I mean, even the Civic is as large or even larger than an Accord 5 years ago. I guess I'm gonna be buying "sub-compact" cars to get a mid size sedan or coupe.

One thing you missed is that the 2.5 is a new engine, same displacement but mostly new internals. As well as the CVT is a new design. I bought a Platinum AWD and love it. I don't know if the CVT will be better and DID get extended powertrain , just in case. Hopefully don't have to use it. You hear all the stories, but then you hear Hyundai has this problem and Ford has this problem and Toyota had a ton of recalls several years back. Make your own decisions, not what the trolls have to say. At least 70% of powertrain failures are due to lack of maintenance or owner abuse. Bet half the people dissing the CVT haven't even driven one.

Don’t need the extra space so size isn’t the deal breaker. The extra power of the turbo would be nice. Update was just building a Altima on Nissans site and was shocked to see the turbo is not available in Canada!?! That’s a shame

The Penske File There is a good reason for this. If a LED module goes bad after the warranty expires it will cost you hundreds of dollars to replace it. I was the same and then I bought one of these because I liked the overall car. Turns out the tablet look is good. Brings the screen closer to eye level so easier to understand and find the correct icon quickly, as opposed to looking down the dash at the screen.

If they'd ditch that horrible CVT they'd have a winner. I've only been in an Altima one time in my life when I rented one a couple years ago and it was the most comfortable car I've ever driven. Drove straight-through from Chicago to Boston and I didn't have any back fatigue. Not to mention it got about 44 mpg doing 80 the whole way.

Altima introduced CVT at 2008. So you probably drove 2007 model which is more then a decade old.
@zeke937
@zeke937 6 жыл бұрын
Actually, the 07 model also had a CVT because that was part of the 4th gen that ran from 07- 12'.If it was a couple years ago you might have driven the 5th gen that ran from 2013-2018 (with it getting a face lift in 2016). Keep in mind that the 2016-2018 models look a bit different exterior wise to the 2013-2015 models even though they both fall under the 5th gen category.

Their sales have went up significantly since the CVT was introduced over 10 years ago. Why would they ditch it? Their old auto trans was terrible.
@nodak81
@nodak81 6 жыл бұрын
I drove a 2016 with a CVT. To answer smack9x - Their CVT is one of the worst in the industry, they've had to replace thousands of them under warranty, imagine how many will fail the moment the car is out of warranty. The CVT design is significantly inferior to a standard automatic, they are weaker, less resistant to heat and have a massive single point of failure, their drive belt, which is 100% non-serviceable. Once it breaks (and it will) it's new transmission time...
@nodak81
@nodak81 6 жыл бұрын
Forgot to say that there are two reasons car makers have been turning to the CVT. First, because they achieve higher MPG ratings and secondly, because they are cheaper. Cheap transmissions don't bode well for the longevity of the car.

This is definitely a huge improvement over the current Altima,I think if they would have added those few extra premium features, it's missing this would really be at the sweet spot for performance and price. I'm also intrigued, by that VC turbo, and can't wait for a full review 😁.

This is a pretty car, but I’m returning my leased ‘16 Sentra early...don’t like the CVT. I’m leasing my ‘18 Mazda6 GT turbo and then will purchase! I only average 4K Miles a year and will keep it a while as I dislike car payments....the Sentra drove nicely, but the CVT drives me crazy!

Those rear lights and their incandescent bulbs looks straight out the 90’s. I also take issues with no cooled seats. The Q50/60 doesn’t have them either and that’s a issues for me. Well designed cooled seats are a must have especially when you live in California or your weather reaches anything above 70 degrees.

So many choices... for most people. So simple for me. Honda Accord is the only one with manual transmission, so it's Honda Accord for me, although I decided to buy a pickup truck first (of course, manual transmission), so I'll have to delay Accord purchase by a year. People, keep buying manuals, so it doesn't go away when I finally get to buying one.

It was also the top model, Leather, Sunroof, Heated Seats, Prefect car, Main reason I sold it was because I was scared the transmission would act up

Brian, actually i ve put some hard time in on their cvt and its not bad. you have to have the SR though so you can control the revs and gear ratio with the paddles. shift when u feel in "the mood" otherwise let it do its auto pilot thing. gotta have that engine though! their little 4 bangers out there are probably the best 4. and yes, the cvt will prob crap out down the road. think of it as a battery etc. as such, the cvt concept is quite like an evolution towards all electric.

@@christo6765 I dont doubt that. The point was and I should have been more precise. Nissan hurt alot of owners with faulty CVT units. And I won't buy one from them. Nissan will likely stay in 3rd place behind Toyota and Honda. And probably fall behind Hyundai in 5 years.

Alex, it is always going like this: "this car feels nearly like Mazda6". But then, when you drive Mazda6 everyday and get into Accord, Camry and presumably this Altima, all these "nearly" becomes "not quite like". Also, Alex, at which level you get folding mirrors? I remember test driving Altima 8 years ago and to get folding mirrors would lead you to top trim. This is a no go because my wife is not safe going into garage without folding mirriors
