A couple things here- I miscounted, the Altima holds 7 packs of TP, not 8. The Count from Sesame Street would be so disappointed in me. Thanks again for all your donations. To be clear, I don't need a Sony FS7 to produce KZbin videos. To support the cost of making these videos (production music, $1,000,000 worth of liability insurance, gas, food and coffee for Martin and Rob, graphics) I do video freelancing to pay the household bills. For that I need more than the consumer grade Sony RX10 MIII I used to shoot the Altima video. I was looking to buy new gear late next year, my mishap has accelerated that. The fact that I historically shot these videos with a pro camera is gravy for viewers (and is MUCH faster for me in both shooting and editing). And FYI, insuring pro gear is prohibitive expensive. I would have paid for my Panasonic HPX370 many times over in the six years I owned it. And finally, full transparency, the cost of the gear includes a new tripod (the old one cracked), various adapters I'll need, and of course tax. Or I could buy a used Panasonic and soldier on. I'll let you know. But the main thing is I appreciate the help. I'll keep this "NPR pledge drive" to a couple weeks and stop annoying you. Cheers! TV

Tom - you know best what works for you, so I hope you are able to get satisfactory equipment (and that my contribution helps). I find it a bit amusing that some of your viewers seem to know better than you what will actually work for you. I'm looking forward to your reviews helping me buy a new car around 2020. You've already done a review of one that I'm seriously considering.

@@erewhon2010 Best of luck. Feel free to ask any questions. I try to monitor the comments pretty closely. The camera that I used to use at KING TV in Seattle was 55K and had a stunning picture. Spoiled me. I understand that people don't know the difference between what a DSLR can do and what a broadcast cam does. And really, I would be okay using the Sony RX10 for the car videos if that's all I did. It looks fine, pretty good actually. It has serious limitations for what I do outside of the car world though.

Yep.. makes perfect sense to offer the hot new 2.0t with FWD only while leaving the "new" 2.5 for AWD cars.. way to shoot any potential enthusiast sales right in the foot! Nissan sucks and they have for years now. Very sad.. This Altima looks great and has the potential to succeed if they would've structured their models correctly.

No, you are correct. He clearly put 7 packs in. However, in the Jag video he neglected to put one extra pack when there was clearly room because he claimed it wouldn't fit, Yet, it's clear he crams packs in his other reviews. Driven Car Reviews Driven Car Reviews shooting with the fancy camera is faster? Lol what? also if you were insured why do you need the $$? This just seems forced and not genuine. You don’t need the fancy camera. This money isn’t for the show it’s for your main gigs outside of KZbin. Let’s just call this money drive what it is...

@@TomCook1993 Hi Tom, FWIW I'm being pretty honest here. Yes, my other gigs help to support this channel. The vast majority won't donate and that's okay. It's not expected. But many people have asked in the past about supporting what I do so I figured I would ask. If I had 400K subscribers things would be different. This is kind of a boutique channel for people who enjoy the production values and information. A labor of love. Oh, and liability insurance is different from property insurance.
@ninja4914
@ninja4914 5 жыл бұрын
@@TomCook1993 Mr. Voelk has been beyond adequately gracious in soliciting help from his viewers, not only by being decidedly unobtrusive with his requests (they are merely brief mentions at the beginning and end of videos), but also by providing extensive -- if not meticulous -- detailing of his intentions in apportioning the funds. Since the funds from the "other gigs" are ancillary to the productions on this channel, it is quite presumptuous to insinuate fraud by characterizing his campaign as "not genuine." Furthermore, Mr. Voelk is directing his campaign to those who sympathize with the financially precarious juggling between "a labor of love" and the realities of earning, so the cynicism comes across as particularly caustic. Perhaps you could more amicably suggest alternatives to Mr. Voelk, if you feel he's misguided...

I currently own a 2014 Kia Optima, and if I wanted to but another car it might be the Kia Stinger because the Dealership I bought my car from has warranty forever, but if I had to buy a car other than a Kia I would definitely look into the Honda Accord, while the Altima is good looking but Nissan wouldn’t really be on my list for a Japanese car.

Regarding sedans (non-sequitor alert): I recently got a car rental loaner when my car, an X3, was in the dealership for brakes. I was handed the keys to a new VW Jetta, one level up from the most basic. Holy moly. The car flew, handled great, and was a blast to drive. Plenty of room for me (6'2") and easy entry/exit. Very impressive and fun to shift with the Tiptronic.

OK. I get that Nissan would rather give up their firstborn than offer a geared transmission. But what marketing genius decided to offer AWD only with the non-turbo engine? I'd hate to be a salesperson at a Nissan dealership trying to explain that to a potential customer. "Yes, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, you can have AWD or you can have a more powerful engine. You just can't have both."

I wouldn't worry too much about that. 'Mr and Mrs Smith', just like 95% of AWD buyers, won't really take their car off-road. They just pay for the 'mental comfort'.
@stephenhendricks103
@stephenhendricks103 5 жыл бұрын
@@the80386 It's true that AWD owners who take their cars offroad are a rare breed. But for those in tough winter climates AWD is a godsend. (A number of models are offered in Canada only with AWD, for example.) Living in Seattle AWD is only marginally more effective in our messy winters but ski trips to and through the nearby mountains are eased significantly. Our Sorento is never taken offroad but it offers much more than "mental comfort" in those conditions.
@the80386
@the80386 5 жыл бұрын
@@stephenhendricks103 fair enough. I forgot to take snowy surface into consideration since it's not an issue where we live. On a side note, it's worrying just how many people I've seen/talked to, consider AWD as an alternative to snow tires - in their mind, AWD exist just so they don't have to worry about changing tires, which is not only ineffective but dangerous. It has been demonstrated time and again that AWD wearing summer or even all season tires can't match simple 2WD wearing proper snow sets.
@stephenhendricks103
@stephenhendricks103 5 жыл бұрын
@@the80386 You're so right. And in fact, if there's a downside to AWD it's the common (but very, very wrong) assumption that a vehicle can be driven 15-20 mph faster in adverse conditions thanks to AWD. Here in the Pacific Northwest AWD is a very popular option and over the winter one can count on stories several times each week on the local news about an overturned SUV that failed to take a corner in icy conditions. You're also correct about the value of winter tires especially in an FWD vehicle. Back in the dark ages of the early '70's I lived in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. In those days an FWD passenger car was a rarity but I owned a Saab 96 with FWD and the associated weight over the driving wheels. In the winter, most of my friends resorted to putting sandbags in their trunks to improve traction. No such a need in my Saab, especially when I put on winter tires. I never had a problem climbing the hills around Ithaca, NY. In fact, I recall a particularly awful blizzard where my Saab and a Greyhound bus were the only vehicles moving on the roads. :)

It's not really a DSLR, its a Sony RX10 MIII but it's the same form factor and I didn't want to get deep in the weeds about that. Part of the look is in the processing after editing. It's time consuming, adds over an hour to the color correction process per piece vs the broken Panasonic. And the camera itself isn't 15K, it's also the new tripod I'll need and battery adapters. And tax. Gotta pay that. Will probably need a new computer to replace the 4 year old Mac I use too. It never ends...

Hey Tom question, if your looking in this price range/size wouldn't it make a whole lot of sense to go Kia Stinger 2.0? AWD, quicker, more practical...looking in this segment and curious of your thoughts. Great video!

Equipped in a similar way the Stinger is around 9 grand more. But I do like the Stinger and I don't know what the price is like in the real world.

Hey Tom, a great budget Pro camera is the Sony HXR-NX100. It’s very sharp and for only $1600 it’s a real bargain.
@DrivenCarReviews

The HXR-NX100 doesn't have XLR audio inputs that I need for clients when I do the job that actually pays me money. I wouldn't buy more camera than I need. Thanks though!

Just a heads up the NX100 does have XLR inputs.

I have to say, your videos are much sharper with the DSLR than they were with your old one. This video was much better quality-wise, in my opinion.

Just curious, what gear do you use? What I mean is what make and model? I have a DSLR myself and as nice as it is, I know it's not as flexible as a dedicated video recorder
@DrivenCarReviews
@DrivenCarReviews 5 жыл бұрын
I used a Panasonic AG HPX370. Was thinking about a Sony FS7 MII when I upgraded "next year" but my situation has pushed up that plan. I appreciate that people think this video quality is just fine, and it is for YT. But for pro work (which I do to partly fund my love of doing these videos) I need a pro camera. I have to rent to cover the jobs I have on the books. I also need a new tripod since the fall cracked the head.
@mp5wes
@mp5wes 5 жыл бұрын
@@DrivenCarReviews I see. The FS7 is a beast of an upgrade compared to the Panasonic. Until then, what DSLR model are you using?
@DrivenCarReviews
@DrivenCarReviews 5 жыл бұрын
@@mp5wes Not really a DSLR Wes but the Sony RX10 MIII (which looks great and I've always used it for the slider shots). Yes, quite an upgrade but as long as I'm doing it, might as well future proof my main camera. Typically I take good care of my gear and this one needs to last awhile, assuming this one doesn't tip over as well. Hurts to even think that....

@@DrivenCarReviews i completely understand. I have a Canon 7D and while it's nice it can record video, it's not the same as a dedicated video recorder. I've always enjoyed your videos and good luck with meeting your goals!

Then u got unlucky. What dealer? Because dealers use different products so maybe when they do your 5k miles check up then they use bad products. But the Murano is more efficient than the edge and more reliable. Now don’t get me wrong, the edge supported us so I’m not gonna call it shit. I’ll just buy a used Japanese car.

Just a word, folks. Unlike many other video reviewers, Tom doesn't make a habit of regularly seeking contributions or hawking products of his sponsors on his channel. And if you've followed his reviews you know how excellent both the content and the production values are. So even if your display doesn't capture the excellent 4K definition of his earlier videos, consider contributing a few bucks in appreciation for his work. Just my $.02

I'll be in the market soon for a new car and I'm hoping you're able to review some more hybrid or electric SUVs. All the cars that I on the market right now are gas only :( My current shortlist is Volvo XC40, BMW X3 and Lexus NXh
