When I do my first oil change I install the Fumoto oil drain valve that has a nipple, which allows for a drain tube to be installed. Makes all subsequent oil changes much easier and cleaner.

I did the same, got the Fumoto valve off Amazon. Installed it at my first oil change. Hopefully less messy the next time around although it will take a bit longer to drain all the oil as the valve makes the diameter smaller. Which is fine, enjoy your time in the garage as you do the job. The only annoying part is the filter as the location is real tight but the ziplock bag method helps!

Thanks for sharing. I agree with several other posters and only use a name brand, full synthetic in my RAM. Also, the drain plug is 13 mm, not 1/2 inch. Yes, it will work in a pinch but Dodge/Ram seems to have converted to metric bolts, etc. a long time ago. For those who are interested in just getting everything from their local superstore, you can also use the Fram XG10060 filter on the 5.7L. These are easily found in the big box store and are rated to 20,000 miles with full synthetic (I don't let it go more than 10K)

I love my 4th Gen Laramie pickup by far the best truck I've ever owned most comfortable and best looking truck IMO... BUT Chrysler uses bad quality lifters in the 5.7, and they are notorious for being super noisey! Same as the 5.3 in chevys they are always noisey as hell too! my point being never cheap out on oil especially in the 5.7 hemi unless you want the "hemi tick" to get bad even early in its life! You always use high quality synthetic oil in these trucks.

I did my first oil change on my '19 last weekend. I made a huge mess when the oil came gushing out of the drain. I need a better pan. The filter removal didn't make much of a mess, but I like the ziplock bag idea, I'll use that next time. I used the Amazon Basics Full Synthetic 5W-20 made by Warren Distribution. The Amazon oil is rated API SN+ and beats all other synthetic oils on the market for about 1/2 the cost. The Project Farm Channel has some very good oil testing videos. I got 12 quarts for $50. I used a Wix XP 57060XP filter from O'Reilly.

Yeah, I must say it was a messy job on this truck. Most oil changes aren’t like that. With the sway bar in the way for the drain plug and the electronic power steering module directly underneath the oil filter, it’s impossible not to make a mess under there. The plastic bag trick definitely helped tho! That’s good to know about the Amazon Oil.. I will have to order it up next time!

Huh, your oil filter is under the motor? Mine's (2020 5.7 hemi) on the top - easy peasy to get at. Thanks for confirming the drain bolt location/size

If your oil filter is on the top of your engine, you don't have the 5.7l hemi. You have the 3.6l V6..

I've used switched to royal purple on my 17 ram before getting my 19 rebel. I did notice a difference in mpgs and the engine seemed to be quiter. Does anyone recommend/not recommend using royal purple full synthetic for my first and every oil change in my new 19 rebel?

If you lay a plastic bag over the axle under oil filter oil wont hit axle. Also use better oil, your Ram will last longer. I believe Pennzoil was even recommended in the 2015 manual. Synthetic will last longer as well. Nice video!

I've done a bunch of tests on oil quality in the past and I must say that conventional oil is conventional oil, they all work the same regardless of the brand.. Now when you are comparing to a full synthetic, that is where you notice a difference.

Great video! Nice truck! However, Walmart conventional oil is a poor choice. I never even put that stuff in my work beaters! I’ll stick with Mobil 1 pure synthetic. I get a 6 qt. case on sale at Sams Club for $28. I buy two at a time. Also, I use Wix XP oil filters. Good quality and Wix guarantees them for 10,000+ miles.
