I also have some aromatherapy stuff that smells exactly like the pine scene, another that smells like the ocean scene, and a third that smells like the orange groves again.

Disney couldnt. Then one side would just become more popular than the other. To play it safe, the Left Side operates World and the Right Side operates California. And which ever side the cast member directs you to is the version you'd be riding. So it's 50 50

This ride is just pure magic. No other way to describe it. It HAS to be experienced. What a KZbin video can't possibly capture is the fact that you're sitting so close to the screen that it feels like you're really there, and the chair is suspended mid-air and actually moves when the camera moves so that it feels like you're flying.

When I was kid from a low income family. My parents took me to Disneyland and DCA for special occasions. Soarin Over California was always my favorite ride since this was the closest thing to exploring all of California. I’ve always wanted to visit San Francisco, the valley, the desert, San Diego, etc. However since my family didn’t have enough money to do the travel. They saved the money for us to go to DCA just for this. Now I’m 23 and so far I’ve gone through most California (Yosemite and the mountain regions left to go) and I kid you not I got very teary from just the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge! I will never forget this ride for inspiring me to explore such a beautiful state!

@@sunshinesky6926 well it could work, just know that when you ride soarin, your directed to either left or right randomly. So technically you can have a 50 50 chance to ride said version. And Disney sphlud put a sign saying no complaints for which ride version you get, and cast member will only allowed a certain number of request per day. It's like single rider, you get a card, and you give it to the CM at the end of the hallway and they say which version would you like, you choose and you ill be directed to that side and be going through the line of handicap instead of the normal line since you requested it

I actually think Around the World is an improvement in several aspects. Like, that one feels more natural to me. I mean, think about it: The same time of the day is not shown in all videos on either version. Since Soarin' Over California is in California, like if you were to go on it after dark, it'd be a giveaway that you're not actually traveling. The fact that a couple of the vids were filmed after dark just makes it so clear you're not really traveling across the state. But with Around the World, not all times are the same in every area of the world, so it feels more believable. Also Around has much smoother transitions instead of just abruptly cutting to the next scene like the California version. However, these are just my opinion. And I don't hate this version, I'm just saying the world version improves on it in aspects. That's all.

I never went on Soarin' as a kid when DCA was brand new, due to the lines being so long. Up until this year's Food & Wine Festival, after so many years of wanting to, I finally got on Soarin' Over California for the first time. I FELT the nostalgia and despite not having the same connection as many others who have ridden it over the years, I got teary eyed and emotional watching the scenes and hearing that beautiful music. It filled me with pride, of being Californian and living in such a beautiful state. I didn't get that feeling when I got on Around the World a month later. It's alright, the smells are nice...but the CGI ruined it for me. Everyone is entitled to like whichever version, but to say that ATW feels more "natural"...please. It's far from it. 😂

I remember when I was younger I would plug my ears because I hated the fireworks at the end. Now I’m over here missing the orange grove scent. @Jackson Crossman Since the film was refurbished in 2015, it hasn't been grainy. And more sights and smells and advanced footage? It's all CGI and looks fake, IMO. The Californian film had much more of a theatrical and realistic presence.

Disney had an experiment where they played both Soarin’ Over The World and California, they had one line for each theater and let the guests choose which they liked more. The California theater had a TON more guests than the World theater.

As a Californian, this version is vastly superior to the Soarin' Around the World concept simply because it showcases the vast amounts of natural beauty that exists in our state and is featured in California Adventure. Why anyone thought to change it is beyond me. This state may be a nightmare on the political and social levels at times, but seeing how many different landscapes, weather patterns, and adventures we can behold in one state is mesmerizing, and it always brings tears to my eyes when I hear this music. It feels hopeful, like this was made to make us proud of where we live. Every time SOC comes back for Disney's Food and Wine Festival, it's worth going on if I can. At the time of writing this, I can't begin to express how much I miss Disneyland and CA Adventure. I hope they open soon. I'm not the only person in my family who is dying to return to the parks.

I remember when I went on this ride and I absolutely loved it and I went on it again. I want to go back and go on this ride again.
