Great review Thomas, very thorough and well thought out. I just purchased the 29'r and love it, as you stated, this thing accelerates like a bat out of hell (with the carbon Roval Fatties) and turns really fast without feeling too twitchy. If you overshoot your line in a turn, it's like it automatically adjusts and puts you right back where you need to be.

Hey man, nice review! I'm considering the Stumpjumper or Hightower LT. I live in western NC and our trails have a bit of everything. What are your thoughts? I love the stumpy and the expert level price is nice but not sure about the Pike fork. Could you offer any input? Thanks!
@thomasthetrailengine94745 жыл бұрын
Zachel s thanks! Sorry for the late reply but I'm actually in Brevard right now with my Hightower LT and I'm definitely a big fan of it out here. What I would say is the Hightower LT in my opinion is a more confident and comfortable descender than the stump jumper particularly through rougher trails. The pedal platform is a bit better on the LT but the seated geometry on the stump jumper makes it a slightly more comfortable climber! They're both really balanced bikes but I personally opted for the LT because I wanted a bike that was more stable at high speeds and rough trails as opposed to stumpjumper which gives up some of that but may be a bit more playful. I hope that helps a bit!
@zachel5 жыл бұрын
@@thomasthetrailengine9474 thanks! That makes sense for sure. Yeah Brevard is awesome. Dupont and Pisgah has a lot to offer! I had the 2018 sjumpjumper and loved it. I guess I'm going to have to demo both. Thanks for the response!

jbw5485 I went tubeless also but have yet to go to dropper post , that’s badass man !

Sunnyslope Rider one thing I noticed was the lack of options for the dropper post. The stumpy frame size where the seat post goes in is on the larger size. I measured 34.95 mm with digital calipers. That leaves you on the more expensive end and very few options when deciding on a dropper post. I went with the reverb. I love it.

You said you have ridden the Yeti and I was wondering if you had your choice between these two which one would you pick as just an all a rounder.
@thomasthetrailengine94746 жыл бұрын
Zeno Pfau id probably go with the yeti! That’s more because my preferences lean towards tougher descents and that’s a bit better as that. For more mellow and everyday trails/cross country type stuff the stump jumper is a bit lighter and easier to pedal
@jaimers31015 жыл бұрын
Between enduro comp 29 vs st 29 , both 2019, which one would you choose? What's the use profile for each one. Great video by the way
@thomasthetrailengine94745 жыл бұрын
I would probably lean toward the stump jumper as an overall bike. The enduro can be a bit more of brawler but I think for 2019 its due an update. You'll get a more all around capable bike in the stump jumper, but a bit deeper travel/softer ride out of the enduro. Im thinking we'll see a new version of the enduro for 2020 after the stump jumper got its update this year.

Nice work, what was the bike the stumpjumper ks contending with for your next new bike? Have you made a decision yet? I'm looking at it and yeti , the ibis? Any thoughts?
@thomasthetrailengine94746 жыл бұрын
Joshua David Leach yes I have! I got a Santa Cruz Hightower LT on order! I haven’t had a chance to ride the ibis but have ridden the Yeti Sb5.5 and liked it quite a bit. I think it was close to as efficient as the stump jumper, a little less playful but it felt more planted through rough sections and I think it could tackle heavier descents a bit better

Nice video! How does the expert stumpy compare to the pro carbon enduro?
@thomasthetrailengine94746 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot! I would say as far as head to head is concerned with the builds I think you get more value out of the 2019 expert stumpy as compared to the 2017 and 18 pro carbon enduros. The stumpy is $1,000 less but comes with a build kit that's right on par, the only bit that's a little lower is gx eagle instead of xo1 but the performance differences are negligible. As far as ride characteristics are concerned the stumpy is definitely a more engaging and responsive ride, while the enduro is softer and feels like it can truck through the rough a bit better, though the rear suspension can feel a little harsh at times in my opinion. I think short of trails that are nearing DH bike territory the stumpy might be the better option!
@milito046 жыл бұрын
Great video man, question.. I currently own the 2019 LT stumpy..had it for 2 months.. thinking of selling to get the 2019 enduro, or a Hightower lt or new bronson.. what made u go from the enduro to the Hightower LT?
@thomasthetrailengine94746 жыл бұрын
Emilio Schumann Hightower LT is a bit more balanced than the Enduro. My Enduro was quite heavy, pretty slow acceleration wise, and later into having it I started noticing some issues with trying to get the suspension to feel active enough through repeated hits. Travel felt really deep and the bike is real stable but just looking to switch it up more than anything!
@pibblesnbits5 жыл бұрын
@@thomasthetrailengine9474 How do you feel the stumpjumper fsr comp 2019 compares to the hightower lt cs? Is it worth the price difference for the hightower? I test rode both today and that high tower had a more "in the bike feel" while I felt more "on top of the bike" riding the Specialized. I could tell the weight difference between the two bikes right away but I feel like the Speicialized felt far more efficient while pedaling,
@thomasthetrailengine94745 жыл бұрын
Pibbles 'n Bits I think between the two you definitely get a bit of a jump in component spec on the s build hlt. The fork, brakes, and drivetrain are all going to be a bit nicer so that accounts a bit for the price difference I would say. As far as picking between the two I would say priorities matter. The stumpjumper definitely feels more poppy, playful, and the pedaling feels a bit snappier. The Hightower LT on the other hand feels much more composed through rough sections of trail and holds higher speeds with more confidence in my opinion.

Great bike, really well polished and well designed like most specialized bikes. My main reason for not buying one is even it's $10k s works version is way too heavy for a bike with 150mm fork and they still haven't figured out how to make a good dropper.
@thomasthetrailengine94746 жыл бұрын
Shane Harder it’s definitely not the lightest bike around! With the dropper I actually think the new command post is quite an improvement. It has proper drop length for bigger sizes and it doesn’t have quite the same high speed return, though it’s still faster than most

Feel like I’m being messed around, bike not fit for purpose.

@markkitashima34986 жыл бұрын
Thomas the Trail Engine I will keep you informed, my bike is at the lower end of the range (stumpjumper comp) but @£2500 UK pounds it’s still a big spend. The shop that sold it me, had me bring it back in as they had like for like bike and would change parts over if needed but called me saying the other stumpjumper makes the same noise. Told me to collect the bike and said there is a problem with the rear linkage. Just don’t feel me with confidence as I have been a car technician for over 25 years and know how to locate a noise or play in parts. Bike shop and me seam to be on different pages. How these bikes are on the market for sale is beyond me. I’m 45 and been riding bikes most of my life and had all types but I can honestly say I love this stumpjumper, best bike I have rode. As you can imagine I just want it fixed.
