On 12/11/22 I bought a 19 Forrester Touring in Sephia Bronze with saddle brown leather interior. It had only 4,700 miles on it. I had to go over 2 Mtn snow covered passes to get home from Seattle. The previous owner put Michelin Cross Climate tires on. They’re awesome in the snow, ice, mud, wet and dry roads. So far I’m really enjoying my Subie. I’m in my late 50s and only drive about 6K miles a year so perhaps I’ll be driving my Forester until I die

Your Forester reviews helped my wife and I feel confident buying her 2020 Forester Sport in white. Incredible vehicle! We bought it and immediately took it on our trip to the Smoky Mountains. Between highway driving and up and down the mountain a million times to hike, we saw a combined 30.6mpg, and that is one of the reasons we bought it. My wife does a lot of driving for work; so, we didn't need anything with more power, just needed good mpg and cargo space. Plus our local Subaru dealership gives you the 7 year/100,000 mile warranty for free :)

Just picked up a Forester Sport for my wife. Since we live in the mountains, we certainly take advantage of the AWD and Manual mode to have fun in the twisties and to pass those slower cars. A turbo version with 6-speed transmission would’ve been perfect for this car. I enjoy the confidence charging into mountain corners at 60+ where I would be more cautious of my G37 Sport sliding out on me. At the end of the day, my wife loves her new car.. so I’m happy lol

great review. Your review hits this vehicle spot on. I bought one for the same reasons. The vehicle may be slow on paper, and I was afraid of the boredom of a CVT, but the sound of the engine which you capture in the video along with Subaru's artificial shifts gives the sensation of speed and makes accelerating entertaining enough.

I have a 2003 Forrester and I have never felt a need for a turbo (I live at sea level). Merging onto a highway was never an issue, however. If I lived in the mountains (Colorado?) I would probably have a different opinion about having a Turbo. My priority is good handling first and foremost. And with a vehicle like the Forrester I do not expect race car or even a sport sedan level of handling. My 2003 Forrester is a blast to drive on country roads and some of the light off-roading I do with it. The newer Forrester with their added height and all felt more tippy which was a deal killer for me. I hope the new 2019 Forrester is close to the Crosstrek as far as good handling goes. NOTE: My 17 Year old Grandson now has my 2003 Forrester. I have the 2018 Crosstrek and a 2014 Outback.

Everyone is saying how "We want the turbo!", but how many people would actually pay for it? I've seen tons of Forester's on the road all the time but only like 5 - 10% of them are actually XT's. The majority are the non-turbos. Although it would be cool for them to have it, economically speaking, they need to cater to the market that makes them the most money. The market that makes the most money is that which wants better MPG, better range, and a better all-rounder over a powerhouse of a crossover. I had a 2004 Forester (non-turbo) once, and although it died (so sad), it kicked ass in mud, snow, and offroad. Trust me, you don't really need the turbo.

I bought a 2015 XT new. I love it. It does require premium gas as many turbos do but the power difference was huge. When moving in and out of traffic, I use it around Chicago. the only problem with your idea and i get it don't get me wrong with this is than with the turbo models you will get better MPG. i know that because i made the mistake of replacing my XT with a touring. at least by 8 to 10 mpg more. so if by fuel economy is the reason why the fucked it up really bad.

Perhaps the best review of the new 2019 Forester that I’ve seen on KZbin. Excellent work, keep it up. Subscribed! You hit he nail on the head, the off road portion was too easy and subdued. I loved that you discussed torque vectoring, the chassis, the handling, the ground clearance, and the performance. I also loved that you picked the best package option to review, the new Sport edition. Why? Because in my opinion the Sport is likely to be their best seller as it offers the best value! The Touring is nice but too expensive in my opinion. I’ve been looking at getting a small crossover for me and my wife to replace our 2013 Corolla, which has a scrapped up front bumper due to it low ground clearance. I also love that Subaru has decided to make their eyesight safety system standard! I have had a few close calls during my commute before where the driver in front wasn’t paying attention and slammed on his/her brakes causing me to do the same. I’ve owned a 2001 Forester in the past and it was truly an Amazing vehicle. One thing I am left wondering is if the Sport model comes with memory seating. I know the Touring comes with the fancy face detecting memory option but I am curious if the good old button memory seating is included on the Sport. That would make life 10 times easier as I am very tall and my wife is very short.

Good review. I own an '18 Forester and since it's almost 2021I'm thinking of trading for another one, possibly the Sport trim. In one year the Forester changed and evolved quite a bit ('18 through '19). Mine has been flawless so far after a little over three years with me. Gas mileage is really good and on a 50 mile drive I've gotten 42 mpg, no joke. Recently I got to test drive a '21 Forester on an extended drive in a rainy and stormy day. It handled great and it felt right at home in fown weather. It large and it felt so. Airy, comfy with the typical Forester outward visibility and no blind spots. It got taller and wider but not by much, a little over an inch, but it it looks wider than that. I don't think the Forester changed since the '19 model to present. Good value, but I'd stay away from the pricey Touring version.

I've been thinking that myself, but let's let the Ascent work out any issues with the engine before dropping it into another. It'll probably end up replacing the 3.6 in the Legacy/Outback next year. I spoke with a Subaru representative at the NY International Auto Show. I complained that they were dropping the XT and he said the decision was purely economic. I suggested that they would sell more if they offered the XT with a manual transmission. He said that is not true, because during all the years they offered a manual transmission with the XT, only 3% were ordered that way. He also said that Subaru wants every vehicle marketed toward families (everything other than WRX and BRZ) to have all the latest safety features, like adaptive cruise control. Since adaptive cruise control is not compatible with manual transmissions, they will not offer manual transmissions.

Thank for taking the time to do this review....I have looked at other similar video reviews and some have mentioned the warranty, service and parts are expensive for such vehicle of it's range ... I'm interested to know your perspectiven on this topic as you seen like a well informed reviewer.

I would easily give up a little mpg for more power. This thing is way to under powered. Cross overs in this category should start at 200 hp
@austinshoupe15066 жыл бұрын
The planet is falling apart due to waste. You really don't need that much power unless you're doing something pretty specific. It's enough power. The 152hp in the Impreza is enough power. We don't need that much as general consumers.
@austinshoupe15066 жыл бұрын
@AG Coarseman you're kidding right? More power, more gas. There are alternatives out there that give you more power without more gas, but they tend to be expensive, use other dangerous materials (see any electric or diesel set up), require more maintenance.... Generally speaking, if you want more power, you'll use more gas. It's a huge part of why the XT uses more gas than a Forrester, why the Forrester uses more gas than the Crosstrek, etc.
@austinshoupe15066 жыл бұрын
@AG Coarseman the Forester is rated up to 33mpg. Unless you have the diesel, your Tiguan is not. Not sure which year or trim or regional specs you have, but most, if not all the trims for the 2018 Tiguan has the same power, is smaller, doesn't come with AWD standard, and still makes 5mpg less per gallon.
@austinshoupe15066 жыл бұрын
@AG Coarseman then you are comparing apples to oranges. Last time Subaru ran a diesel in a Forrester, it was rated 43-44 mpg.
@austinshoupe15066 жыл бұрын
@AG Coarseman and the diesels come with trade offs environmentally.

These are great motors for Japan and Europe, not for countries with large open roads and actual outback use... more power needed!

I have the 2017 Subaru Impreza Sport Sedan and absolutely love it. I'd still take it anyday of the week over any other car including the 2019 Mazda 3 that some other video on You Tube ranks higher.

Have the 2011 Forester XT - great car. Will be looking for a new car in a few years but it will not be a Subaru if they don’t bring back the Forester XT or the Impreza WRX STI hatchback.

Subaru has balls to call this a Sport model. No turbo - not interested. They could have at least given it dual exhaust.
@AWDfreak6 жыл бұрын
Not just that, they could have at least given it a sport-tuned suspension and larger brakes like the Subaru Impreza Sport does.
@yemelian.fabrichnikov6 жыл бұрын
David Santora it’s a sport trim I guess, not a model..

But there is nothing sporty about it. Unless you think orange trim is sporty.

Sport means colored trim and bigger rims. No turbo, no manual, no sport.

Cheap dig at the RAV4’s ground clearance which has now improved to>8”, though I’ll still probably replace my old one with the forester.

I found a 19 Forester Touring with only 4,700 miles on it. I’ll be replacing my 11 Rav 4WD Limited with the Forester touring on Saturday providing Snowqualmie pass is open so we can get to Seattle

I am so wanting for one of you reviewer folks to do a show on what Subaru should be doing to deliver a manual WRX twin scroll turbo wagon and Forrester. I'm in the market but Subaru isn't making what I want to replace my current 2010 WRX wagon which I LOVE!!!

That is a one great review of a car I’m interested in. Thank you, a lot, for this clip! And talking about rivals as Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V: IMO latest RAV4 is the ugliest version I’ve ever seen. Cannot imagine me buying it. Though I understand it's a matter of individual choice and aesthetic priorities. CR-V is significantly bigger and what is crucial for me, harder to jump-in and jump-out from a seat.

I do not understand why they didn’t put a turbo in the new SPORT model. Come on Subaru!!!
@wolfcub8246 жыл бұрын
Because they didn't sell enough of them... People were not willing to pay the extra fee... That is what Subaru said...
@wwaytobe6 жыл бұрын
Sport means you pay more for black and orange plastic ! Not more HP/fun like the XT of old.
@feedtheagle68516 жыл бұрын
because they have major issues with their turbo engine... multiple class actions... it needs a scratch redesign.
@austinshoupe15066 жыл бұрын
Because the trend in car marketing is to offer a sport model with bigger wheels,.stiffer suspension, etc. But never with the bigger engine or turbo because that's expensive.
@ED-ew7vy6 жыл бұрын
Great car. Those bitching about the loss of the XT/Turbo has to be a very small percentage.. #1- I've rarely seen an XT on the road and #2, who's racing a Forester anyway? I have a 2016 Premium model...more than enough power.
@enriqueroman625 жыл бұрын
Great vehicle, best in bad weather, leave the turbo for teens, supreme handling, takes curves at high speed, no other car make beats a Subaru in snow, ice, sleet, rain. The safest car you can have. Bought mine two weeks ago. Very responsive, if you want to race, then buy a Ferrari.

Looks good. Sorely needs a freaking turbo! Also, you can get navigation with this trim. You have to get the Harman/Kardon system in a package deal.
@drivingsports6 жыл бұрын
The online configurator says you can get a H/K system in the Sport, but navigation starts as an option on the Limited, standard on Touring. The H/K system was on our test vehicle -- it's packaged with the power rear door, blind spot and parking sensors, but no Nav.
@robertb.42026 жыл бұрын
Ok. I stand corrected. Kind of strange since Subaru will usually bundle navigation with premium audio
@wind7sailor5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree that it needs the 2.4 engine option. If you have an I-phone, you can use Apple Carplay for Navigation.
