@afcgeo8826 жыл бұрын
You don't want to turn off the traction control in the snow. You want to turn it off in mud and in sand. In deep snow, turning off the traction control will simply make your spinning tires turn the snow under them into ice (by compacting the snow under them), causing you to get stuck even worse. If you lived in a snowy area, you'd know. Snow/ice conditions require gentle starts with maximum traction and little torque.

We love the adaptive cruise control. Makes long drives much easier, low stress and safer. Just lock on to a car doing a reasonable speed and let them drive for you. It will hold a safe following distance - and it brakes before you even notice the cars in front are slowing quickly
@CovenantPurple2 жыл бұрын
I agree! I purchased a 2021 Outback Onyx XT and the adaptive cruise control is great, especially for long distance interstate driving. What I love about it is that you can change your following distance (relative to your speed) with the push of a button. I usually have it a couple extra car lengths back just for safety's sake.
@bombappetit2 жыл бұрын
I now tend to commute to work with minimal pedaling. I just use the cruise, change the speed increments, and just let Forester do the rest. I find it more fuel efficient too. Unless I run into red lights or speed bumps as the first vehicle, I can get by without touching the accelerator or brakes.

We loved the stance of the Forrester...but the main reason we chose the Outback was because of the available 3.6r engine. True, but most people in the U.S. don't live in areas that need dedicated WINTER (not snow) tires. It would just be a waste of money and comfort. Occasional snow storms don't justify driving 2.9 months out of the 3 that are wintery on loud tires with less dry performance that wear out faster and cost more. @@tonychau1983 Hey Tony, I have a 2010 forester outdoor with the manual transmission. Took me a while to locate one and I had to travel for it. But I love it! I bought it because I had 3 imprezas prior to the forester, and I needed more cargo space. I see it as basically a lifted impreza because it shared most of the same components as the imp' during these model years. My foz has the Vehicle Dynamics Control which is the only downside. Yaw detectors in the ecu cut power to the wheels when it senses me drifting. So I really cant play around in the snow anymore unless I pull the ABS fuse under the hood. Ultimately though, it is my swiss army knife vehicle. I can do all my offloading/fishing/camping/rally stuff no problems. Great car

@@gregpearson2863 My wife is from MT. Both of my brother and sister-in-laws drive Outback’s. One of them commutes 100 miles a day round trip. She gave us a secret about using our paddle shifters when trying to slow down without using the brakes. This way you’ll have less of a chance of slipping on the ice. She simply “downshifts” while coming to curves in the road. They buy her a new Outback every 6 years bc during that time she puts 309K miles on her Outback’s. We too live in a very mountainous area of north central WA state and get 4-5, feet of snow every winter. We’re 5 miles from town on a private road that we have to plow and maintain ourselves. When turning off the county road onto our road, we put both our Outback and Forester into Xmode just to get up our road and into our garage. In May we’re going to MT as my in-laws are turning 80 this year so the family has rented a place in Molt for the party. The first night we’ll stay in Missoula with a cousin and drive the other 6 hours the next day. Missoula is our 1/2 way mark.

I own a 2015 XT, and although I love the new “Sport” model, without the 2.0 turbo, I’m not buying another Forester. I’m done with it! Taking the Turbo out of the Forester was just plain dumb. And I couldn’t care less about the low sales of the XT in the U.S. Up here in Canada, the XT accounted for 15% of all Forester sales, so Subaru will lose a lot of potential buyers to Mazda now with their updated CX-5 Turbo which has an astounding 310 lb /ft of torque!!!

Good review . This my second Subaru . First was a 2011 wrx . I was disappointed with that car after I did stage 3 and engine started knocking . Owned 40 vehicles over my life so far . Just sold my f-350 diesel cost and gas milage was killing me . Bought a 2020 forester premium. I’m surprised how much I like it. .roomy interior . Very comfortable seats . The handling and ride quality is better then my wrx to me . Gas milage is awesome. .The power and acceleration seems great . Sure a xt version would be great but I’m sure would sacrifice some mpg . Averaging 29-29.9 mpg around town . I sat in a 2020 rav 4 and felt claustrophobic with that cockpit style . I recommend the forester and agree with everything he said in this review .

I have a 2019 Subaru forester touring. Its my first Subaru and suv in general. I'm coming from 4x4 Toyota Tundras and long travel prerunners. I can say I'm happy with my 19' Subaru Forester but the only two complaints I have is not making a turbo optional, and not having a more progressive style suspension for when off paved roads. The suspension is so soft I can see a potential for easy body roll around the winding roads I drive, and I drive over any moderate dips or pot holes over 5-10mph the suspension bottom's out. Just my opinion: Make turbos optional, re-engineer a progressive suspension to accommodate your rugged image even if it is a compact suv. All this aside at the end of the day I really do love my 19' Forester. Very enjoyable as is.

Having previous tracks means compact snow and ice which means less grip than just snow alone.
@snowysysadmin594 жыл бұрын
@@williamquemuel7824 Not true at all because with fresh snow, you have alot more of it IN YOUR WAY, holding you back that you have to bulldoze through. Whereas with it matted down, you just go right over it with nothing stopping you. Think if it with a field of flowers or weeds. with them up in your way, youre a lot slower running cause you have to push it all down where if you were follow in someone elses path, youd be able to run through it no problem.
@williamquemuel78244 жыл бұрын
Andrew That's poor comparison. Your comparison makes sense if you add a plow attachment to the vehicle. I live in snow conditions. Ice is harder to grip than snow. Try going up an icy hill versus a snowy hill. Your wheels will start to spin on ice not on snow. That's a fact of science. We talking about grip here not plowing in the context of X-mode. X-mode addresses grip and diverting action to the non-spinning wheels to move the vehicle not to plow through it. Your comparison applies if you add a plow attachment to the vehicle in the snow.
