Overall, the best motorcycle ever made. Smoothest v-twin ever of any displacement. Best handling mass produced bike ever - has always held the speed record on Palomar mountain (Palomar, CA - 7 miles of some of the most windy roads on the planet). Light inexpensive & fuel efficient - it puts most bikes to shame. Perfect starter bike, perfect ONLY bike for riders of all skill levels from beginner to expert. Also, #1 for real-world commuting and engines with as much as 400K miles!

Agree. Tried many bikes and recently traded a 2006 bandit 1200 for a 2005 sv650. I didnt have high expectations, just wanted something lighter and more frugral. What a surprise, for my riding style is peefect and even though not as powerful on straight line as the b12 it puts the bigger bike on shame when cornering. Its is also addictive due to acceleratikn noise and leovince can. Also, 4,3l/100km when travelling and 5l with no mercy on throttle.

Still a great bike. Ironically, they dropped the SV650 a few years' back (2209) in favour of the SFV650 Gladius but the plastic cladded look of the Gladius never really caught on. Some called it "Girlie" or "Effeminate" . I'm not going to comment on that, but a few years later the SV650 was reintroduced and benefitted from the engine enhancements which were part of the Gladius project (different pistons, ceramic coated cylinder bores and a host of other parts as you quite rightly pointed out Adam). I believe in some markets the two models ran side-by-side for a time before the SFV was eventually dropped. I suspect the sales of each model told Suzuki all they needed to know.

Love the looks, simplicity and refined design of the bike. Would like to see the smallest of lower engine cowels to hide the forward exhaust pipe. This engine has always been about function over form, and a small, black cowel would protect the exhaust, hide the oil filter, and clean things up a little while not drawing any attention. Yeah it would slightly ruin the stripped down, cafe racer concept, but if it were small enough, it might work well.
@thinkdunson5 жыл бұрын
negative, ghost rider. i love the fact there is nearly zero body work on this bike. for someone who does all his own maintenance, it's an absolutely beautiful design. i just had to replace my radiator, and didn't have to do a single thing, other than unbolt the actual radiator. other nakeds have some sort of cowling covering up stuff like that. if i had to remove a cowl to change the oil filter, it would suck.
@KARMAkazeMoto5 жыл бұрын
@@thinkdunson I have to agree. Removing a cowl to change the oil filter would be annoying. My daily ride is a '97 Suzuki bandit 1200. I've always love it for the fact that the engine is just hanging out there for all to see. However, in the case of the Bandit the lines of the stainless steel exhaust are a bit more pleasing to see. I liked my 18 650x for a year before going to a litre. The clip-on's weren't that nice on a long trip. Day to day commuting was great. The brakes were a bit novice orientated having to really pull on the lever in an emergency was not ideal either. With a AM can the v-twin sounded awesome, and quite a bit louder. The suspension was better than my gsx-s surprisingly enough, until going wide open that is on usual open NZ roads. Overall i found it a bit heavy for only a 650 at 196kg wet. I have tons of experience with Suzuki’s 645 cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke 8-valve DOHC 90° V-twin Twin Swirl Combustion Chambered Twin with two spark plugs per cylinder . . . it’s a jewel! However, the rest of the package is obsolete. I’d say it was just long in the tooth but, compared against other manufacturers’ offerings for similar prices the bike hasn’t got teeth, or at least a full set. Sorry Suzuki, my loyalty is waning. I think it’s wonderful that you can offer a decent rock solid reliable bike for a decent price, but stop forcing people to rip off and replace the components that under perform. Keep the base model and offer an upgraded model for more money.

i don't know why they even have the gauge. the temp is rock solid. i had my coolant leak out on one of my daily commutes (70 miles, one way), and the gauge didn't move all the way back home, even though i let it completely drain out before refilling it. instead of the temp gauge, it should just be an overheat light on the side, and replace the gauge with an outside air thermometer.

Great review- iv always been intrigued by this bike, but went with a left over duke 690 which runs about same price as one of these. Duke offers a tad more power with pretty significant weight savings, but something still draws me to this Suzuki. Maybe the simplicity and tried and true history it has. Great class of motorcycles...don’t really need much more for street riding IMO

the difference is kind of intangible. even if the 690 duke and sv650 had the same basic specs, there would be lots of difference in the ride. this bike hits a LOT of sweet spots that are hard to define. you just have to ride it and see for yourself.

I'm moving to Japan next month on a limited license. What w'd be the best bike for say $3500 i. Suzuki SVF400; Suzuki Bandit V or Yamaha SRX? I like the commute series very helpful with useful insights too. thanks, your efforts are appreciated..

The brake reservoir is ugly! Was it an afterthought, they ran out of room or what's the deal?

agreed. it's like a huge wart sticking way out the top.

Suzuki how about "R" model , go to a parts bin take out some adjustable suspension, brakes from GSX-R. There are enough of us looking for a mid size canyon/track ready machine from the showroom floor. These bikes are not "beginner only" bikes, look at the number of them on the track. Just look at Triumph. Just a thought

Kawasaki z400? I understand if not cause it's the same thing as the ninja kinda. Anyways I love the way the 650x looks! What year is this? Lol
@thinkdunson5 жыл бұрын
the z400 is not the same as the ninja. the riding position makes a significant difference. more upright is more comfortable, and feels like it has more control. the ninja will have slightly better wind protection, but that just takes some getting used to. i would always recommend the z.

@@Lexyboogie No ,I had no idea,wtf🤣. I was saying with my comment, it looks like a cheese ball of a bike. I like Suzuki, but this bike in particular looks unfinished and cheep. Just my opinion..
