Old video, but in case someone sees this. The fog light pattern on these are supposed to be wide and low. They are that way to light up the sides of the road to help see things like animals. The only real downside is that during the winter they will pack with snow as they do not get hot enough to melt it.

I think you have very good fog lights and their function isn’t same as headlights as they not suppose to project out far but immediate surroundings. Pretty cool you can use them without headlights on but for my Avalon 2014 xle hybrid I have to have headlights on in order to use fog lights. Glad I bought both fogs and headlights switchbacks

Hey Jim! Where did you connect the power/battery in the engine bay? Or did you send wire all the way to the back of the vehicle? I don't recall seeing anywhere in your video that shows how you connected the lights to the power? Thanks in advance!

When I installed them on my civic, i was able to adjust them with them already installed by pushing on them from the frontside, with the screws already on pretty tight. So far it hasn't moved when driving for 10kmiles and i can always still adjust them on the fly

Yeah I can see that. I could probably do that if I ever have to adjust them again.

you have foglights, and that beampattern is correct. If you wanted projection down the road, then you are looking for SPOTlights. The diffusion is different for spotlights.

Thanks for all of your informative videos. As the owner of the RAV4 Prime SE I am planning to install the SS3's much as you describe here. As I look at the switch bank below and to left of steering wheel I notice one empty position with a blank switch where I'll place the foglight switch. However I notice that the blank switch has a prewired connector (6 wires - gray, purple, purple/black, gray, orange, gray). I'll break out my multitester to probe these but wonder if you considered tapping into those for your foglight install?
@JamesKlafehn3 жыл бұрын
I dont like using OEM wires unless I am 100% positive I know exactly what they do. It may test as a dimmer wire for example but be something else or trigger something else.

Thanks for very informative video, James. I have my RAV4 Hybrid LE 2021 and it doesn't have fog lights. After watching this video, I'm planning to put up ones for myself. However, I have some questions regarding connecting the wiring to the power. I did a little research and I got different answers: 1. Just wire them to the existing parking lights. 2. Get the power directly from the battery using an inline fuse, and wire them to the headlights, and make the headlights wire to be the trigger on a relay. 3. If I want to have a separate switch for the fog lights, I have to get an extra cable to get the power from the battery, which is at the back of vehicle, since mine is a hybrid. My questions are: Is there any way I wire them and get power without going through the firewall? There are fog lights kit being sold both in Ebay & Amazon with complete set of wiring, relay, and switch. What are your thoughts?

@@JamesKlafehn what’s your feeling on these plug in performance chips out there for the RAV4? I’ve seen them on eBay for $58 and up? Most offer a 30 day money back guarantee. I’m curious if it would add more horsepower to the RAV4 Prime? Might be a good video for you to make.

@@AveiroDan I dont have an experience with them. I have doubts. The prime is a unique vehicle so I doubt a chip company has the expertise to tune it. I think OEMs do a lot of work tuning the car for optimum output. I for one wouldnt want it to be just a little quicker if I lose ev range or MPG

@James, was there no pre-wire tock away for the fog light behind the bumper? As with Toyota trim they all come off the same assembled line so the same wire herness should have been here, subtract the relay, the stock switch with the fog light switch. if it not there, it seem that Toyota might be doing things different to prevent owner from adding the options to their vehicle that only on the higher trims. I think the time you install all the options, you would have turn your SE Prim into a XSE Prime. if I had a SE Prime, I will build it up to the XSE trim. Anyway when is your review of the Chevy Bolt coming. looking forward to your review.

@@JamesKlafehn OK, understand. once they did not change the way they do thing at Toyota, they should be there. They normally fold them away. like on my 2001 Corolla, LE that did not come with fog light neither offers as an option on the LE, but standard on the S trim. I was able to install my fog light the only thing I did was buy the relay, and the steering wheel stock switch that have the fog light switch and work right out of the box.
