@@anthonyantoine9232 Interior is a huge thing that's for sure. Overall quality the GTI wins. It's a lot more refined for a daily. The Veloster N however, wins in stock performance. I've yet to see the potential of these cars, but the GTI has a long history of being a rocket after some basic tunes. The N is just too cheap for me to sit in everyday, I'll admit it's a lot more fun stock for stock than the GTI.

@@TerribleUsernameAmirite Hyundai felt, correctly I think, that the Veloster N with its lower price point and lighter weight would attract enough additional buyers to make it more profitable in the US. In general it appears that Hyundai decided to introduce one or the other vehicle in most, if not all, national markets. Europeans get the i30N reflecting the appeal of sports sedans in those markets while North Americans get the "hot hatch" Veloster N, instead.

I have the leaon ST FR with the 7 speed dsg and I can confirm the launch control isn't worth having. It just doent grip and you get violent wheel hop. Until 3rd. Or even forth if its cold. If it's wet, it's actually quicker in normal than sport for the same reasons too. I have a great single lane country road I drive down every night form work. If wet, sport is about 10s slower over a 5 min hoon form one end to the other. Lots of short burts and slow corners. The lsd in the cupra edition helps out alot.

@vr6gls
@vr6gls 5 жыл бұрын
Actus Are you serious dude?? DSG makes perfect sense in a GTI. Especially if the GTI will be your daily driver. The DSG is faster, can hold more power, more convenient and more comfortable. Engagement and being fun to drive is a purely a subjective opinion. Manual fans act like their opinion is the only one that matters. I much prefer the DSG in my GTI for spirited and track driving because it allows me to focus on steering, braking and car control. That is what I driver should be focused on while driving. This “review” was pointless because going into this both of these guys already were biased going into it. 👎
@basithph8958
@basithph8958 5 жыл бұрын
vr6gls it might seem biased but I’m going go for the manual I’m okay with the DSG for the RS3 but the GTI it has to be a manual transmission that is one of the requirements of a hot hatch and I like the R more and it is a great car with the 6-speed manual But I would get the Veloster N over the GTI
@vr6gls
@vr6gls 5 жыл бұрын
BASITH PH Fine and that is your opinion. However, you can’t present your objective opinions as facts. The DSG being faster, more convenient and more comfortable are objective facts that cannot be debated. A manual transmission does not make every car better. In many cases in today’s automotive landscape, the opposite is true. I value performance over being a wannabe Paul Walker.

How many of you guys are looking for Old school Hyundai: None, why? Because they are shitboxes. Now, how many people are looking for old GTI's, Scirocco's, Corrado's, Westfalia's, tons. Why, because they are awesome. Ok, the N is a cool new car, sounds great, is different. But in the end, I think I will age bad. All hyundai's are cool for 2 years, then they look like shit and age bad. The engine will probably start knocking in 3 years and the hard plastics inside the car is probably already scratched/ end rant.

First Straight Pipes video I watched was last year's GTI review. I ended up with a 2018 SE w/the DSG. No real complaints, I do not like the styling of the competition. The Golf gives you plenty of headroom and practicality with decent performance and solid comfort for short and long hauls. I think it has the right amount of power for a FWD vehicle of its size, I could also do with less gloss black in the interior. I was originally waiting for the new Mazda 3 and in now in hindsight, I'm very happy I picked the GTI. The Veloster performance looks stellar especially for the price range but the styling and interior is not my taste at all.

Even if the Veloster N out drove the GTI, the cheap plastic interior bits is a no go for me. I actually really like how nice my Mk7.5 GTI is inside and it's one of the main reasons I picked it over the Si, WRX, and the ST. If it's a car I'm going to daily and spend a lot of time in, I want a nice interior in addition to being fun to drive. ALSO. As far as the manual vs DSG. If you're planning to tune these cars, the manual can't handle much more additional torque and tunes eat up clutches on that. Even the low-torque tunes still end up needing sooner clutch replacements. The DSG is good for upwards of 400lb-ft of torque supposedly.
@roboticvenom1935
@roboticvenom1935 5 жыл бұрын
Nah the DSG's don't have a power limit yet. If they were only good for 400 horsepower then they'd break with JUST a tune that gives you 370 wtq. The DSG's haven't been broken yet, and the DSG is bone stock in IROZ's mk7 GTI with 550-600 whp and 600 wtq.

I bought a GTI with the Manual. The clutch started slipping at 34k miles with no mods. I drove a manual RSX Type-S for 7 years with no clutch slip, so clutch slip was not caused by me. VW refused to fix despite being under warranty. So I traded it for a DSG, because clutch failure that early in a stock car was unacceptable. I ended up loving the DSG better. Its more fun to me because its faster and because launch mode. Plus its less likely to fail. CONCLUSION: Do not buy a manual GTI unless you're okay with having to putting a higher performing clutch, many others have had clutch failure early in the GTI too. The stock clutch in the GTI are too weak for the power this car has, but the stock DSG is nearly indestructible with being able to handle over 450 lbs of torque.

Not to mention the fact that clutches are expensive and stupid weak on mk7's, after just putting a baby tune on your car the clutch is trash and you'll have to go aftermarket, it's also something you have to replace at a certain interval each time. It's not that they can't accept it. It's Hyundai's build quality and durability that concerns people. Sport hatches get thrashed around and need to do many jobs because of their purpose. I've worked on both makes of cars and have honestly seen some terrible issues when I take apart a Hyundai. The interiors don't hold up as well either. Hopefully they start building them better and stronger for their performance line.

Just to be clear, the GTI doesn't have 'pumped in audio' exhuast noise the way say a BMW does with the sound coming through the speakers. Rather it uses a little 'noise maker' in the engine compartment which 'buzzes' to make the exhaust sound louder. Still fake, but not playing anything through the car's entertainment system.

I looked up some 7.5 Dyno runs and I didn't see a big jump but hey I could be wrong. Either way the GTI makes more power than people think, it's faster than most people expect, it handles pretty fuckin good with sub par tires... Just buy it used and call it a day. I get it if you are buying new then yes the SI is a "deal" but it sounds terrible, it's noisy, the interior is hard where it shouldn't be and it doesn't come with a DSG. If you're serious about going fast release yourself from the mortal limitations of a standard and join the DSG Master race. Jokes aside Yuri was complaining way more than was reasonable, the DSG is plenty of fun. The only thing I miss about my MK6 was the fact I made some great memories in that car.

Perhaps you can also test these cars in everyday conditions. I find the GTI to be great all around car. With DSG being better for traffic conditions plus launch control. Also the Veloster N is nice but, subjectively speaking, I do not like the look of it. GTI has a subtlety that I love. But I'm biased. Oh and GTI horsepower tends to be under rated with many being 15-20 HP higher than stated. Also for infotainment you can control everything from the steering wheel or voice activation. Works very well. Not sure why you didn't mentioned any of that? Did you even try that? I assume not.
