@Jason, if you were to recommend a bike between the Bronson, Stumpjumper, or the SB130. Which one would you go with? I am about to buy a bike and just started riding within the last month or so. I have ridden the Stumpjumper 3 times now, but have not had a chance to ride the sb130 or the Bronson. Tbh, it's a little overwhelming trying to find the right bike that I can have fun on now and grow into as I get more comfortable.

Hi MTB yumyum! I'm a short rider at 5'4" (proportioned trunk:legs). That SB130 is on my radar since its launch. But it only comes with 29" wheels. Do you think it will suit a rider my size with its small size frame or with any other 29 brands?

Really love your reviews dude, because you are not afraid to compare the feel of the bike to others, that triples or quadruples the value of your reviews because we can look up those other bikes reviews (that's if we don't already know them) and really get a more complete picture. MTB Savant, totally agree... people wanna have an "enduro/EWS" ready bike but never send it at speeds anywhere close to what would be required to get some of these bikes to there limit. That said, it's a lot of fun to ride a big long travel bike on rough terrain but the reality is, most of my riding is done on single track and the sb100 just pops off everything and brings even the most boring trail to life!

I opted to recently buy an sb5.5 over the new sb130. Mainly because the large in the 5.5 fits me well(though it is on the short side compared to newer bikes, but I enjoy a more nimble 29er). And I wanted 140-150mm suspension. I'm glad I did. My previous bikes were a Hightower LT and Pivot mach5.5. The amazing thing is that the sb5.5 flies up climbs in addition to being excellent at descents. I never thought I'd buy a Yeti but I love it. And I do use the under the down tube water bottle holder!

Yeti have made the CLR and TLR versions of the sb130, with 137mm of travel and 160mm of fork with the fox 36 grip 2. It starts to be very interesting! The best of both worlds in my opinion!
@LP-ll8td5 жыл бұрын
Did you ever try the TLR build of the SB130? The TLR provides 160mm from a Fox 36 GRIP2 up front and 137mm from a modified DPX2 out back. Kind of moves you towards an SB150 without the commitment. Also, looking at the TLR and T3 builds it's essentially X01 on the TLR and XX1 on the T3, although the TLR might be specced with better brakes(?). Alternatively, one can put a GRIP2 cartridge into the 150mm fork and replace the DPX2 with an X2...(all out of your own pocket). What route might you consider? Oh yes, any final thoughts on the DT Swiss XMC1200 "upgrade" wheels? Keep up the great reviews. Enjoy your enthusiasm.

first: please continue to do these awesome reviews :) i had Ripley V3 and now i own a regular SB130 for a month and a half now, sooooo good ! never in my life (and i am 50 years old) had a bike that fit me. i am 6'4 and 238.1lb (but who's counting:). 1) turns - for me is not so demanding on the turns, i do charge a little or maybe have enough weight for all wheels :). i am so centered on the SB130 so on drops (not doing BIG ones) i do not need to make a huge effort to get the front up a little ... it is just so amazing and turns so amazing fast and fun 2) bike weight - funny but the tallboy 2022 is the same as SB130 - why not have more suspension ??. but to get it under 30lb you need carbon wheels with no crazy wide tires. 3) Time - I timed 38km rout (230m climbing, fast rout) it was exactly the same speed and the same average HR as my Ripley V3(same outside temperatures) . 4) Fun - so fun to get this bike in the air with my 238lb... turns and drops... stable.. so much fun 5) technical - on the technical stuff the SB130 just wants to help you instead of "stuck" on the rocks like i felt on the Ripley V3. Do not get me wrong, loved the Ripley but when started to ride a little harder/gnarly the bike just is not enough and hung up on stuff even on XC routs when you have some rocks specially on the climbs. The Ripley V3 (9cm stem since it was too short), Ripley V4 is worse (with 5cm stem). I bought the Ripley V4 and left it in the bike shop, after waiting 6 month for the bike. the V4 numbers are increased but the steep angle just "eat" some of that so ... no good for tall guys. it is so important to try the bike and see that it is OK for you and your current style of riding.

@mtbyumyum6 жыл бұрын
The sb130 climbs better than the Hightower. The Hightower feels like it has more travel and is a bit more plush on the descents. That said, the sb130 still felt very stable and capable. And the hightower feels like the shorter more playful zippy bike in the slower stuff. That one area the hightower really shines... slower tigher trails it feels super fun and playful. Brigita this is Verdon's wife. I will tell you that I love, love, love my new Beti (SB5)! I am 5'2'' and about 110 lbs with my gear on, technically this puts me in the xtra-small sizing for the bikes, but when I sat on them, the xsmall felt too squished so I went with the small. When I ride it, even the first time, on unfamiliar trails, it feels surprisingly natural. I hope yours feels as good. I am glad we waited for the 2019 to come out because I love the Midnight color better than the turquoise color and the wider tires give tremendous grip, and the 36 fork feels very stable. Our first ride on our new bikes (besides our demo rides) was in Moab, which is very technically challenging trails compared to what we are used to in Colorado. This bike gave me incredible (maybe a bit false) sense of confidence and I was amazed at the way it climbed over stuff that I would have never been able to get up over on my cross country bike. Glad you have one coming!! Enjoy it. Tabatha

After recently returning to mountain biking after a 20 year absence I bought a budget bike and am totally hooked again. Seriously considering investing in a quality bike next year. Really like the look of the Yeti Bikes, I know you should not judge on looks alone but they do look amazing.

Thank you and welcome back to riding! Those two bike feel very different even though they're both "trail" bikes. The sb5 will feel a lot more snappy and quick feeling.. will want to pop off stuff more easily and feel quicker in the tight terrain. The sb130 will feel a bit more stable and in control at higher speeds. You should try and demo them on the same day back-to-back so as to more clearly see the differences... good luck!

Hi, which one do you think climb better? Sb100, sb130 or pivot trail 429? I guess the sb100 will be the winner, by far, but going downhill there are also BIG differences between those 3? I mean does sb130 really beat sb100? On the other hand I had a sb5 and I was really really happy with it. Having that in mind which one should replace it? I want to go for 29ers, which one will be the more similar to the sb5?

Love your reviews always makes me want to get out and ride more! I'd apreciate your opinion on something. I ride in Arizona where it's rocks rocks more rocks. I have a 6" dw link bike for going fast. Now I'm looking for something that is more capable in the technical tight stuff especially climbing that we see out here. (Look up KZbin videos of national trail) I rode and loved an sb4.5, but in the faster rough sections I felt myself wishing for a bit more travel. Sb100 also super responsive and nearly as agile in the technical climbs as the 4.5 but on the rough decents didn't gel at all. Haven't been able to get on an sb5.5, but I just can't imagine it having too much of a climbing deficit vs 4.5. (and there's lots of good closeout deals) the bike I really wanted to try is the Ripley v4, but I can't find a demo anywhere and they're two months back ordered if I did decide I wanted one. So given the terrain here would you lean towards the 4.5 or the Ripley? Maybe the 5.5 with a more progressive set up may just Trump them?

No.1 reviews! Jason: you rode a medium SB130 at 5'8". How did the new forward geo feel? Not too stretched? Also since steeper STA = longer wheelbase (1205 mm / 77 STA for the SB130), in your opinion how does this new geo affect the "playfulness" of such bikes (for example the medium Instinct WB is 1179 mm/ 75 STA, Ripmo 1190 mm / 76 STA, Offering 1201 mm / 77 STA, Smuggler 1184 / 76 STA)? Can long WB bike ever be playful, even with 435 mm chain stays? Merci!

Thanks! Yep, the medium was excellent in terms of fit and geo. Not to stretched out and the bike still feels very fun but not as snappy as shorter bikes.

Great review as always. I live in Michigan and I'm moving to Colorado; any suggestions on bikes I can demo for that kind of terrain. I'm 51 y/o and a good rider, however, I will not be doing any big jumps and boosting off anything, too hard to recover from the injuries. I just want something stable for speed that's not going to kill me on the climbs. Thanks for the channel.
@mtbyumyum6 жыл бұрын
Depending on your amount of speed and how chunky your most difficult terrain is, I'd recommend the Yeti SB100. I've been loving it and for 90% of the trail in Utah (similar to CO) it's the perfect bike and climbs better than basically any other trail bike out right now.... Good luck!

@MTB yumyum Another grat review man! Im selling my ibis HD4 and I am having a hard time trying to decide between a Ripmo or a SB150. I've been reading lots of reviews and I really like both bikes geometries, suspension and aesthetics but I just can't decide. I think I will base my decision heavily on your reviews and Bike Magazine bible of bike tests coming this December. I ride rocky downhill oriented trails in Tucson Arizona as fast as i can and make some trips to Moab . Can you give us a brief comparison between these 2 bikes? Thanks!
@mtbyumyum6 жыл бұрын
The Ripmo and sb150 are my two favorite long travel bikes at the moment. If it's your only bike and you want to have long days in the saddle over many miles, the Ripmo is the better choice in my opinion. It will build up a little lighter weight with the dpx2 and swap the heavy tires and wheels for something lighter weight. If your only concern is smashing down hill segments, get the sb150... it's incredible with loads of traction.... it's just tracks the ground so well. Ripmo climbs better and I think will be able to build up lighter weight for long days of xc/trail use. Good luck!
@abouvet16 жыл бұрын
@@mtbyumyum I forgot to mention I also own a Pivot trail 429 for xc/trail rides but I get what you are saying. Ripmo is more versatile, lighter and pedals a little better. SB150 is burlier, more downhill oriented but still pedals great. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah and maybe depending on how high speed you're descending, consider the Pivot Trail 429 if you don't feel you need the extra stability. If your descents are higher speed go for the Ripmo
