We had the same issues with MB language arts. We did level 2 & 3 and it fine so I ordered level 4 and it had the same problems you mentioned. Introduced new grammar concepts with minimal review and minimal practice. We stopped Level 4 after a few lessons. I'm using Fix It Grammar and my daughter LOVES it and is retaining so much! We switched to All About Spelling for spelling and IEW for writing. I ordered all the Level 3 & Level 4 TGTB books from their library and that's her reading. We love the new switches !

I really enjoyed your review and energy! I’m a first year homeschool mama too and it sure is exciting and overwhelming trying to pick a curriculum! If you like to supplement a bit, Kumon has some pretty good workbooks too; I was quite impressed with them for my daughter. Thanks for sharing!

This is why I chose another curriculum for Langugage Arts. It's sad you and others I've spoke with have had to buy other supplemental books because Masterbooks Language Arts is lacking so much.

There math is the same. I do like there gentle approach but it could have a bit more meat to it!

What material are you using for the States unit study that you put together in the composition notebook? I purchased material and am also doing a notebook style but yours looks so much more age appropriate and more interesting for my twins who will be 9 this year.
