OFFRD need help I got stuck on the part @ 11:03 since you didn’t show the part it’s about to get messy due to camera being contaminated I used ziploc bags the big ones but anyways what if the filter didn’t slide out there’s two prongs in the bottom center of the filter and the filter is still snug how to remove the filter without breaking something TIA!

You’re an absolute savior. Went to my local dealer, after my truck had a light saying I have water in the fuel and need to purge the fuel filter. They said it’ll cost $500 to do it and replace filter at the same time. $500 freaking bucks. That’s insane for a 5 minute job and a 30-40 buck filter. Did it myself, everything was great and works perfectly fine

FYI if you loosen the valve for the fuel filter more you will get fuel to flow, Just didn’t open enough. I loosened and allowed the fuel to empty from the filter. Not too much came out. So I closed the valve after it stopped draining. I then loosened the filter and noticed that there was a little fuel starting to leak from the threads so I stopped and grabbed my 1 quart mason jar and put it back under the filter and opened the valve and it drained the remaining fuel from the filter without a mess. Worked great. After it drained completely I closed the valve and then removed the filter housing. I found that there was still a small amount of fuel left, maybe a few ounces. I emptied that out in a large measuring cup that I have for this kind of stuff. Wide mouth easy to empty to. Hopefully this helps folks and makes it easier and way less messy. I only got a a tiny bit of diesel on the floor from it splashing. If you use the oil absorption towels or a large disposable cooking pan/tray it would catch any splash.

I have a 2021 and the part numbers seem different, but I took mine down to the dealer, and after 15 minutes of waiting for someone to notice I was in the service bay they said they haven't had filters or oil for 2 months. NAPA usually has all the filters handy or they can get them for you in a day or two.

Thanks! Just did mine after watching your video. Super easy. Although I wasn't expecting the filter to come off with the cap, but I guess that's right. Took a little force to get the filter off the cap, but really no problems. I'm sure I can do it in 5 minutes next time. JUST MAKE SURE YOU WATCH TO THE END... to get the note on PRIMING before yu try to start it. I went through the priming sequence 4 times and still had that moment of worry when I went to turn over the engine and instead of turning over for 1 second like normal, it took a few seconds the first time.

i believe you should have seen some fuel flow when you opened the petcock valve....i suspect there was some dust or crud impacted in the orifice....draining the entire housing before removing the cap makes the subsequent process much easier

He did not fully open it. Mine drained fuel for 45 sec

Open that valve all the way on the fuel Filter. It’ll drain the fuel in the can. If you leave it open when you start to open the cap it’ll release the vacuum and drain the rest of the way. 5/16 ID, 7/16 OD Tyvex tube will fit over that nipple next to the valve.

FYI I live in Colorado Springs and I called up Colorado Springs Dodge to see what they charged. They have a deal around $400 (+tax) for 4 oil changes. Even for the new gen 3 ecos. You pay the money up front and then over 2-3 years or however long it takes you to use up the 4, just take it in. Maybe other places could be convinced to do that kind of deal. However after this I will probably do it myself as was done here.

I take mine to the dealer, make sure I don't have any warranty issue if a problem comes up, anyways the most I have been charged at my dealer was was right at 300 bucks for oil, fuel, and air filter.

Bulletin directly from FCA says specifically to not use Rotella. Don’t ask me the particulars on why because I’m not that smart. I went to my local RAM dealer to buy some oil and they tried to sell me Rotella. I told them about the bulletin and they looked it up and said that I was 100% correct. Parts guy had a bit of a shocked look on his face thinking about all of the Gen 3’s that they put Rotella in.

The best thing to do is use your VIN to look up parts. That way you are sure to get the correct filter for your vehicle.

I don’t know how hot it gets there , but here in nc the writing on receipts will slowly disappear due to the heat (I think) . Receipts will be almost blank after several months.

Take a pic of the receipts and keep a computer file. You can always print them out. Taking pics of your parts pre-install and post install on the day they were put in also is easy and will go a long way toward establishing your claim to warranty should something fail that's covered.

When you took off the filter cover you showed the O ring being loose, "too much slack" but the new O ring that came in the box, was it also loose or did it fit snug when you put it on ? Thanks keep up the great video's !

I turned the peacot and a ton of blueish rainbow liquid came out isbthat really all water? It filled up a solo cup and I closed it because it was about to overflow I just reached 9300 miles

Put the liquid in a glass and add water. You should be able to tell if the liquid was fuel or water to begin since the fuel and water will visibly separate. My fuel was clear with a slight green tint so hard to distinguish (other than the smell!)

I went to change the oil in my Ram, and they estimated $250 for an oil change, $350 for fuel filter service, and $120 for each air filter. Obviously I didn't do anything extra, just the oil change, but I'll start doing it at home, it's not as difficult as I thought.

Thank you for your video! Great video very informative! I understand what you mean about the minimum wage technicians. Got my vehicle brand new off the lot and it was sold to me 3 quarts low of oil! When I took it in later in the week they "fixed" the problem and sent me on my way. Stupid me didn't think to check and they forgot to put the oil cap back on! I was so pissed and what a mess! Anyway's I should have stuck it to them and demanded a new truck but was just going through too many other personal things in my life to devote energy to fighting with the snakes. My oil meter says 40% life left at about 7k miles on this current oil change. The dealer said between 6-10k miles before changes but I trust them about as far as I can throw em.... what do you recomend between changes?

Read your manual. Mine says 10,000 miles between oil changes, so 40% at 7K miles is about right. When I tow my Airstream the engine is working a lot harder so oil change interval drops by about 50%. The manual is awfully long winded but everything you need is in there.

Does your comment about priming the fuel filter after changing it also include what you should do if you run out of diesel fuel? I know many years ago a diesel engine that ran out of fuel was going to be a problem.

Do you have any experience with the HPFP?, mine failed on my 2021 1500 eco diesel and wiped out the entire fuel system, (covered under warranty) The dealer replace everything and installed the new HPFP Part# CSFP01A1AA, I was wondering if you know if this new HPFP is better than the one that failed? As someone who is interested in getting one of these trucks later on down the road (i cant afford it right now), it makes me glad to know that routine maintenance isnt too much of a chore on a modern rig like this. I will say that the upside-down oil filter is unusual, but by no means, a deal breaker. From my understanding, most all new vehicles dont have a transmission dipstick (newest I have is a '10 dakota (3.7l v6, 4-speed auto) with a trans. dipstick) and can only be "serviced" by a dealership. That said, is this the same with the 2020-21 ecodiesel/zf 8-speed and what are the maintenance intervals? Thank you in advance. :)

Yes this is the 8HP75 trans and Ram says the fluid is "lifetime" which generally means 150,000 miles but ZF says more frequent changes are good so a lot of guys do 60,000 miles on trans fluid and filters. That'll be an interesting video one day.

Good video but I found one problem. The filter would not come out until I called the dealer and asked for advice. He suggested ramming a screwdriver through the bottom of the filter, being careful not to damage anything in the housing, then pulling hard to get the filter ouit.

They say to change the fuel filter for the first time at around 30k on jeep ecodiesel, I'm debating doing it earlier like 20/25k am I wasting my time by doing it earlier? I don't get much water in the diesel. Around here when I flush it.

I just changed Mine today at 36k. I wouldn’t wait that long again. It looked dirtier than the one in the video for sure. Not a single drop of water ever but I would change it before 30k. I’ll probably do it every or every other oil change from now on.

Every other oil change is the requirement. So, figure between 16,000 and 20,000 miles. The manual states to NEVER go beyond 10k on an oil change.

Valvoline changed the branding on their oil. They now call it "European" oil and the MS-12991 spec is not stamped on the bottle, though Valvoline tells me they are working to update this. A mechanic told me about Motul oil which is a true Group IV base stock oil and is supposedly one of the best oils in the world for only around $9 per quart so I'm going to try it.

Did you get a check engine light on after changing the fuel filter? I changed my filter on my 2020 Ram 1500 limited and got a code P0088 ( high fuel pressure). I cleared the code and it hasn’t come back on yet.

Filter will be stuck and it pulls straight down. But she is tight. I used a plastic pry bar to pop it loose. Drain fuel first through little valve.

From what I've read Synthetic Rotella T6 exceeds the requirements, do im not sure why he said not to use it.

@@mrwhamisrick From what I've read the new spec is a lower ash formula for the DPF. I freaked out over it b/c I was using T6 for the first change then switched to FRAM. Honestly it has nothing to do with the engine components or wear, its the after treatment, ie DPF. Just switch to the new stuff next change and you'll be fine most likely. Some forums have a list of the approved oils that meet the spec. You can get the Penzoil full synthetic at Auto Zone etc.

Not at all. Legal precedent has been set that performing maintenance or having a 3rd party perform the maint at the prescribed intervals cannot legally void or impact warranty. You will however need to be able to prove that it was performed if push comes to shove in a warranty denial due to anything related to that maint. Or lack thereof.
