Take a 2 liter bottle. Cut the bottom portion off and put it over the filter housing and turnn them together. The bottle will catch a;ll the fuel leaking out. I do the same thing for my cummins oil filter so I don't spill any oil. Works great.

Good idea. I was going to suggest spinning the cap off into a heavy trash bag. When I worked on trucks, I used to roll the catch pan under the truck, and then perforate all of the filters with a seal removal claw. You could then spin the filters off with out the mess.

As a Commercial Aircraft mechanic this is a very simple job for me but it was still VERY informative in that you didn't miss a thing... I would of simply dipped the o rings in diesel and not assumed that it's lubricated enough w/the housing esp since you cleaned it out... Other than that it was a great instructional.

Your video work is really good for these style of videos - getting the perfect mounting, shot and lighting is a PIA and your effort really pays off here - you are also good about taking the time to let the camera focus on what you are trying to show the viewer instead of flashing by something real quick and not thinking of what the camera is doing. Nicely done.
@parisachilles26828 жыл бұрын
You need to cover the filter housing with a large ziplock freezer bag when removing it. It catches all the fuel that you spilled all over.

I followed this all to the letter, great video! Sadly, the link to the brass replacement drain plug isn't working anymore. I got one of Amazon that specifically said it would work on my 2019 EcoDiesel, but it was too short and the threads wouldn't grab at all. One additional trick I did was to put a freezer zip lock bag over the fuel housing first with my screwdriver inside, and used that to catch the fuel as it started to drain. I then took my screwdriver out, wrapped the bag around the housing then put the removal tool on and it caught all the fuel coming out. Helpful hint!

Ram EcoDiesel Source hi you went with the ram 1500 eco diesel how’s it holding up? I chose the Tradesman 2500 crew cab 6.7 cummins with the g56 6 spd manual got the 2017 for 54,000.00 . Love the truck got 43,000 miles on it now. I’m lucky if I get 6,000 to 9,000 miles out of my fuel filters I’m guessing the truck senses restriction and lowers the percentage on fuel filter gauge in my instrument menu. Once it gets to 10 to 5 percent I change them out. I use Power Service fuel additives because Cummins endorses them. Do you still have the eco diesel? If so will you do another video on it?

I was originally going to buy one but decided on the 2017 Tradesman 2500 6.7 cummins diesel with the hand shaker because the price at that trim level was basically same as the 1500 eco’s. I knew I would be forsaking fuel mileage. But in all honesty it’s not that bad for a 8400 lb truck 25 mpg highway and 17 mpg city. Really curious how yours is doing and how many miles on it? what is the ram recommended fuel filter change interval? I think it's funny that you keep saying "i" recommend... did u design the system or seen 500 trucks that failed the fuel system if the filter wasn't changed at 15k miles? do u have science behind your recommendation or just a feel good?
@RamEcoDieselSource8 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry I come from a world (FordTechMakuloco) where my videos and extensive knowledge are respected so I may come off as all assuming. The 15k interval is what works and is safe in my experience from diagnosing and repairing diesels since the Marine Corps 15yrs ago. With the advanced fuel systems in the new diesel engine being even less tolerant to contaminants and fuel supply I would stick with that 15k interval.
@crazyhass848 жыл бұрын
+Ram EcoDiesel Source ah okay. that's nice but I believe the manual says 30k Miles and 20k if u run b20 fuel. unless there is a known issue with waiting that long that's what I go by. OHHHH man my filter didn't look anything like yours. Mine was jet black. The new Ram filter has a plastic cage around it and it looks like there's a screen around it now too. Yea so I'm definitely not changing my fuel filter enough. For everyone's information when I loosened the phillips drain on the bottom of the housing I'd say less than an ounce of fuel came out. However, when I screwed the filter housing off probably got 10 ounces of fuel. I used a gallon ziplock bag and it worked great. I loosened the phillips drain and then slipped the bag over it and loosened the drain a little more. Just drain it into the bag there's no sense in trying to catch it separately.

You come across as a reasonably intelligent fellow, but your inability to contain this mess makes you look like an amateur. For god sakes, man, use a gallon zip-top bag; let everything, fuel included--fall into the bag, and take it from there. Would have been a valuable video. Thanks for the attempt. Second, why do people always want to go more than the manufacturers' suggested intervals? RAM says every 30,000 miles. What's your perceived benefit of doubling the frequency of fuel filter changes? I've got about 85K on my 2015 and nary an issue. Just drained and refilled the 1.25 gallons of coolant I could get out of the radiator, and what came out looked about as good as the new that went in. I would have flushed all the coolant, but there's no information out there on how to get what's in the block out. I changed half the coolant, kind of silly, but better than nothing, and got a good view of what's happening inside the coolant system. Not a darn thing! This is a great truck. Oil every 10K, fuel filter every 30K, Air filter per manufacturers' suggested intervals, and coolant will be every 100K, since the Mopar product is good for 150K. Oh yeah, and brakes as needed. The dealership can take care of the recalls.
