How much fluid did you drain from your transmission and how much fluid did you put back in? I know that the capacity is to 7qt. But once I did a drain and fill at a shop they put only 4qt back cause that’s what was drained. I’m about to do myself this time and just wanna get an idea how much fluid this cars drain.

If you put in exactly what was drained out why would you need to check level after??

Even on our best days, most of us aren't perfect. Rechecking the fluid level is a standard procedure after adding fluid. Great question.

Turning the vehicle off allows you to safely check the fluid, secure the check port bolt, and replace the lower engine cover. A running vehicle can vibrate and become unstable when placed on jack stands. Hot exhaust pipes are also a hazard. Also, if the fluid is too warm when checked, the level will be slightly too low when the transmission is cold. A small amount of fluid should trickle out when the transmission is cold. The blending of new and old fluid doesn't fully happen until the transmission runs through the drive gears several times, while under a load. Great question!!

How do you check the fluid temp? How do you check the level of the car? I'm a little confused on your response to the level checking.. So the car should off or on when checking the level? Hardly any fluid drips come out when it is running but gushes out when I turned it off. @@protipsplus

Checking the level while fluid is hot requires more actions and tools. You can connect an inexpensive scanner to the OBDII port to check the temperature. At idle (~5 mins), the temperature of the fluid should be between 185 and 205 degrees. While idling and on level surface, open the check port and let drain until fluid stops. If no fluid flows, it may be low, so add 1/4 quart and repeat steps above.

Do you know if a 2019 kia forte lxs has transmission filter ? The dealer said that they don’t have transmission filters on ivt. I’m asking since these cars very similars

I Heard about that. They told me there no filter but inside the transmission pan there a screen. I suppose it catch the big chunks

Is this the same transmission as the forte 2019 LXS?

You show us that the transmission hose being disconnected from the lower radiator connection and a plastic hose slipped on to the radiator in its place and ran to a bucket. You also show that the disconnected hose should then be pointed up and out of the way, Did that and fluid spayed all over the engine and nothing came through the clear hose to the bucket. I wish you would have demonstrated this instead of just telling us how it should work. Oil all over the floor now.

Did you do this mini flush the way he said to do it?? Let me know how that worked out for you. If he would have demonstrated, not just told everyone, how to do this, he would have found out the information he was telling everyone was wrong. Better yet, maybe you Mr. Mechanical Aptitude, should make a video demonstrating this mini flush the way he says to do it. Please provide the link when you get that done. @@AntwanT94

@@john9841 i mean yea im a Honda master tech by trade so i do have aptitude and an understand of if you pull off a tranny hose fluid will come out. I was just saying that this is not a paid instructor, its a guy doing this in his free time posting free videos for people around the world. I get oil on the ground completely blows but this guy doesnt deserve blame

Master Tech, the point is not that I don't like oil on the floor. The point is the video is wrong. My guess, not being a Master Tech like yourself, is that he pointed and explained to use the wrong hose off the radiator. But I don't know since I'm not a Master Tech. And yes you are correct, a quart of dirty oil on the floor does blow. So if you are saying that I deserve blame since I put my blind faith in what he portrayed to be the correct way to do a mini flush, then so be it. I still would like to see a video demonstrating the mini flush the way he explained.@@AntwanT94

why didnt you change the filter? all ya had to do is remove the pan, its right there.

You could, but why would you if there were no symptoms? The primary reason for replacing the oil is that it loses its lubricating and cooling properties due to high heat. If you reduce the possibility of overheating by changing only the oil every 30K and changing oil and filter every 60K, you win. Everyone has a comfort zone for following scheduled maintenance. This tip has worked for me and many others. Great question.
