Here is a quick little video on how to change the battery in your VW Golf GTI / R key fob. It's a simple process once you know where to pry. Once you remove the back half use a small screwdriver to pry out the dead 2032 battery.

Don’t make the horrifying mistake I made by accidentally removing the FRONT cover of the key. At least for the Golf R, the front cover is some sort of a flexible silicone, and it’s a PITA to push it back into place.

any tips for putting the silicone side (wrong side to access battery, the side with the push buttons) back on? I watched your vid then ordered batteries then decided to just go for it when they arrived and stupidly started taking the silicone side off. Not going well when it comes to putting it back on! 😂 Watched your video again and changed the battery in 60 seconds- excellent!

I just did the same damn thing with my R fob. Took the wrong side off and cannot put it back on. Did you ever find a way to get it back on?

@@shaglioni sucks doesn't it? I tried to reinsert it with small electronics screw drivers but not much luck. Just had mine serviced and they put it back together.

Thank you. Ive changed the battery as detailed and when pressed the keys red light illuminates but the car still doesn’t recognise the key. An expensive trip to the main dealers I suppose 😢

car key will start to alert driver on display of car that car key battery need replacement when voltage drop to 3.0 V without any resistor; where new CR2032 usually show 3.3 V voltage with no resistor
