Looks good, but back of that car looks like Vauxhal Insignia OPC mixed with Bmw and with Opel Insignia GSi, especially exhaust tips, diffuser and boot lid.

Great review even though this is 2 years ago now ! I bought the 8 Series 840i M Sport (GC) this week - fully loaded with tech and sports packs and for the price, in my opinion great value. I chose it over the Panamera and others. But freaky as it may seem I replaced my Lexus RX 450h F-Sport with it. Performance and overall drive, motorway or city is superb - I can even get a mountian bike in the boot and if needed two more on the roof (using SeaSuckers) so ample space. Getting a 6 foot son in the back is also not as challenging as I thought vs the RX. Lets see how we get on !

@@raydonferrari1 it is a very good car , I’ve had no problems in the 2 + years I have been driving it and it certainly looks the part . It has the same engine ( 3 litre twin turbo) as the 540i I had before so the mpg is the same at about 24 for a lot of stop start journeys and high twenties for long journeys ,dependant of course on the weight of the foot on the gas pedal. I can recommend the car for reliability and comfort and it’s quick when you want it .

I like this car because it goes to places and keeps you dry in the rain. And cool in hot weather and you can put your shopping in the boot and it’s a very pretty colour I am going to buy one when I save my money from my paper round

Agreed. It is fast enough for daily/spirited driving and it gets decent MPG as well. The V8 is overkill.

Chose a last of the line 640d GC over an 840 last year as I preferred the styling but now the 8 series is really growing on me and the value used is crazy. Three year old 840i GCs from a BMW dealer can be had for under 40 grand. There is nothing to match them for the money. Three year old 840i with a warranty or a new Golf Gti🤔No brainier for me!

UK has brought the ban for combustion engines time line closer. Mr Johnson said the ban on selling new petrol and diesel cars would come even earlier than 2035. People will only be able to buy electric or hydrogen cars and vans, once the ban comes into effect

Will take it everytime over the Panamera but not over the coupe. That been said the Gran Coupe caters for a completely different buyer compared to the 8 coupe buyers and this is what makes this car so clever.

It’s about time you’re reviewing something interesting. Was getting worried you were stuck doing family SUV’s. 😉 This thing is just 2cm shorter than the 7 series?! I think this will erode the 7 series. Offers about the same room and looks infinitely better than the 7 series. 👍🏻

@@skrd77 I love it, lovely interior design and quality, very few cars out there are as beautiful looking. Different gravy to other BMW's and with you getting the 850i, you got big power under the hood as well, not that I'm complaining! It's a car to cruise in and enjoy the experience. Very few of them about and ive had many comments on how good it looks.

Great solid review. BMW missed the target for me. Disclosure - love the 6 series, own the 6 series. So BMW replaced the 6 series with the 8 series and bumped the price too high for most. Fan of the 7 series but that grill scares me away for now. The slope of the 840i Gran Couple rear looks like a hatchback. Lastly not a fan of the pointed wings of the grill. Overall love the cockpit and the seats look luxuriously refined yet hugging at the same time. Hopefully BMW will learn from the lack of sales and give er some tweaks and give a relief from $100k US.

EVERY BMW looks good compared to the new 7 series. I've always been able to understand BMW designs, whether or not I liked them, but the 7 series completely eludes me. How some of the best designers in the world looked at that and proclaimed "we nailed it", is a genuine mystery, to me. The interior design of the new 8 isn't as lovely as the 6, but the rest of the car is nearly perfect. A beautiful BMW that I think will age very very well.

Good looking??? Really??? Big Bmw fan, actually drive a six cylinder Bmw and it’s really ODD to hear that it’s a "good looking" one! This new generation 7 series & 6 series (or if you fancy, the 8 series) are fresh and comes loaded with modern gadgets, but the "good looks" went out of the window a LONG TIME AGO. I agree that taste is subjective, so is the styling, but a handsome majority have criticized this series in terms of styling which is not to be confused with the ever growing dimensions of the car.
