Great to see Steve back - it's been a year since I have seen him - The CCAR doesn't appear to have an actual "main" meal - which I think is the point - it's a mistake to divide the ration into three meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner - it's a recognition of the fact that when dropped into a modern combat zone, you are constantly in combat - there is no front line, you have no rear area where you can hunker down and prepare or enjoy a hot meal, a proper breakfast, lunch or dinner - you are constantly moving and on the go - It's just a bunch of small, several bite sized bits of food that you can eat on the go, whenever you have time to eat them - It's all up to you to figure out when to eat them - the Army has so little control of the situation, it can't dictate what is breakfast, lunch or dinner time - like they could back in the day - now, it's all up to you -

This looks like the most well balanced and thought out rations yet. They managed to make a full day ration complete with both super nutrient dense stuff that actually isn't just freeze dried garbage and included some tasty snacks and a solid top tier main dish. If they make the whole line like this but also keep the skittles & other fan favorite desserts & candies they'll have a hit among the troops.

What's wrong with freeze dried food? Wouldn't you rather have a freeze dried stew where you can make out the ingredients, it's warm and it sort of reminds you of real food, than a bunch of different tasting protein bars? I don't understand the reasoning behind this prototype.
@joost8176 Жыл бұрын
@@ReddoFreddo Well, the close combat thing might suggest there isn't always an opportunity to heat things up or spend time on food. Smoke/Heat could give your position away too perhaps? I'm not the expert here really. But yeh, in a surival situation I would agree with you. Likely priorities are different when bullets are flying.
@mr.seaotter-1429 Жыл бұрын
@@ReddoFreddo I think Freeze dried stuffs don't doing good to eater body in the long run (or to somebody with digestive problems), Steve point out that problem in Video. He also talk about processing that FD use more time than this new process, So Production can be quicker and make more amount than FD does. IMO, Freeze Dried type have It's good (also flaws) and might get to relegate to Huge unit rations that require time and proper care to do so (Water and Heat accessible). While This "new tech" could focus more to individual ration especially 24hr (Easy to eat, Low weight and Not upset body to much when on field).

It's pretty impressive. About the same weight and size of my 3600 calorie MayDay packs, which are basically apple-flavored sawdust, lol. But yeah, different purposes. One's for investigating a hot area a few dozen miles away from an FOB in a third world country, while the MayDays are for post-apocalyptic exploration that could be necessary 5 - 30 years from now, or for when you're stranded during a camping/hunting/road trip.
