2020 Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE: Is This Inferior To The Hellcat And GT500???

I sold my 2018 charger hellcat to get me a 2018 zl1 1le. I don’t regret it at all. Yes it is harsh ride but car enthusiasts like myself I don’t care. I love it More than the hellcat. Especially since it’s the manual is so much fun then auto to me.

What a great choice you made! I had a 2015 2ss, 1le , rs, recaro pkg. After having all types of great handling sports cars, previous car was a 370z nismo. I'm 48 yrs old, have always been a hard core sport bike rider in the business for 30 years! And sports car enthusiasts. I'd say I drive a couple levels above spirited. And I miss my Camaro more than anything that car was the shit! People have no idea how well they handle in the 1le form, especially for a 3800 lb. Car it's amazing! I can't imagine a new gen zl1 1le in a manual (the only way to go) I'd rather have your car than a $300,000 supercar in an auto transmission based off the fun factor alone! The young generation just doesn't get it! I have friends with ZO6's and hell cat's and m4's with auto transmissions and I just don't get it, I've driven all of them and I feel like I'm driving a fast minivan, they have no fun factor and do nothing for my soul! To me it takes a lot more to excite my soul! Great choice of car you made and more importantly choice of transmission! If money ever comes around again I'll be shopping for a zl1 1le! Enjoy! Fun over a few tenths of a second anyday!!!!! LOL

toppdogg2k17 you may discover as you get older that telling people what transmission they are “supposed” to have is realistically only your opinion. At least “manual or nothing” people used to be able to say they were faster than automatics. Now automatics are faster, but they will tell you it’s not a “real” car unless it’s manual. I deliver CDL trucks for a living, manual transmissions are over rated.

@@RadialNoah im cdl driver also, manual driving in a truck is work but some rather have manual also, a auto in a sports car puts me to sleep, because my zl1 is strictly for the enjoyment of driving, its more dramatic with a manual it's more exciting, with a auto you can pretty much drive with one hand most of the time, and i find that very boring, it doesn't matter how fast you are, there will always be someone faster than you, i could careless if someone else is faster than me.

That is NOT the case anymore. So now it’s individual preference. But the “manual or nothing” people still talk shit. Only now it’s “manual takes more skill, automatic is too easy” like the example you made. I say live, and let live. Why be a dick?

I just bought one with a manual. It is literally terrifying when you really get on it. I wish I had gotten one with an automatic but the manual will have to do. The manual definitely takes some getting use to. Hoping I get a lot smoother at it.

@@steve8803 I just got my 2023 ZL1 manual transmission on Feb 2, 2023. I am so glad that Chevrolet still offers the ZL1 with a manual transmission. Yes, the automatic is a few tenths of a second faster. I would be bored driving an automatic. We are lucky we have a choice unlike Corvette buyers.

The cmaro i believe is the better all round chassis. The gt500 and hellcat absolutely cannot handle with it. However, the zl1 is down on power compared to the gt500 and hellcat. Dyno tune and pulley later, its a contender in the straight line throttle jockey club. Still though, best chassis by far, a lot of r&d has went into this car with all the testing done at the nurburgring.

Honestly Chevrolet needs to bring back the Z/28! with out a doubt. One of the problems is chevrolet is all over the new C8 corvette working on it along with the other versions coming in the future. Chevrolet basically is making the C8 their performance car instead of the camaro. No matter how lazy chevy is I think they should bring back the iconic muscle car anyways. This is also a perfect time for that because well just a couple of days ago there were spy shot on a new mustang which is apparently is the mach 1. Not only that but also because chevy has no plans on using the supercharged 6.2L LT5 anymore that was in the c7 ZR1 vette, why not put that engine straight into a camaro and do some tweaks and visual changes plus stripping the car down and just like that they would of made a Z/28! (and thats pretty straight forwards as well) so this is the perfect time for Chevy to do this, and by doing that not only would this be pretty simple and quick to do but they would also have made a straight up track monster!. Its not like they need to go though the trouble of making a engine that would work, THEY ALREADY HAVE ONE in their inventory ready for them to use!!!! and we all know how dam right awesome that engine is in the vette, so just imagine that in a camaro tho!! So instead of this LT5 engine going to no use this is the perfect time to use it in one of the camaros!! sometimes I cant figure Chevy out... and wished they'd would do these things! camaro Z28 for the win!!

The Zl1 & Zl1 1LE is the most consistent performer of the American trio. The Dodge needs special circumstances( drag tires & prep surface to max out) , The GT500 is technical marvel for Ford but its has a steep learning curve to max out that HP. The ZL1 with average guys & average drivers off the street will consistently make the AVERAGE guy look like Chris Harris. Easiest to launch in a drag & has the best suspension, handling & brakes for the Avg Joe Weekend track experience. For the record , I'd have all 3 if I had the money.

For me it all depends on how much power the engine can make before it throws a rod out the side of the block. I know the Gen 3 Coyotes can live a healthy everyday life at 800-850whp and 900-1000whp if you feel like pushing it for special occasions.

When I had 1000 miles I did 0 to 170 mph in my 2018 ZL1 the first thing I said after I let off the gas pedal was, Now I know why people modify even a 650 hp car I feel like the ZL1 could use another 100 hp it’s beyond me why Chevy doesn’t put the Lt5 755 hp in the 2020/2021 ZL1!!!!!!!!!!

I owned a 17 ZL1 A10, 18 ZL1 1LE & a 18 ZL1 A10. The ZL1 1LE is not anything compared to a 2020 GT500. The ZL1 1LE is a road race car that will gets its as* handed to it on the street & drag strip. I know because it use to happen to me. The ZL1 1LE is a Beautiful car but the gearing & Multimatic suspension killed it for me. ZL1 1LE factoid, the only rubber in your suspension is the tire.
