I've got a 2017 1200S and a 1098S. I love the relaxed riding position on the Monster. You can hoot all day and have a ball. V twin vibes are the way your baby talks to you. You feel your riding something with a personality. Silky smooth bikes are nice but vibes are part of the character. I'd like a Streetfighter but really it's only my ego that I'd be satisfying , the monster performs , in the every day world , good enough.

I can do 5 hours strait on the Monster. I rode and looked into getting the SF but some things to note. All of the work you have done on it will take twice as long on the SF. It's "naked" but still required much disassembly (similar to Panigali) to work on. SF - no grunt, but smooth power, crazy top end so better for track. Monster - All grunt, sneaky power, best on the street and canyons.

I get the review from the perspective of two naked ducatis but with different "feels". A couple years ago I did a comaprison of my own, but with the '22 Multistradas, V2S and V4S (also tested a crisp '17 Multi 1200S). The V4 was definatley the one to cover massive ground. It just flew, powerwise and ridewise. At the end I think I would prefer the V2S though. Peppy enough for me, less likely to get me in trouble at my age, and I think I prefer the two cyclinders vs four from a character perspective. As is normal, we think about something different and I've been thining I'd like to try a nice used monster 1200 as I've never ridden one. My '18 Duc supersport is set up for touring and a monster might be a good way to keep the milage down on that while having a bike to jump on for shorter rides. It's have to be a grey or black one since red would be too much red in the garage 😁

Nice ride. I think I understood what you were saying about "torque blending into horsepower", but technically it's not accurate. What you're describing is just the amount of torque at different points in the rev range (the torque curve), as horsepower is just torque (lb-ft) x rpm (/5252 to get the units correct). Also the streetfighter's torque is electronically limited in the lower gears (not just the traction control), so it's not just a matter of the engine characteristics of the V2 vs the V4 or the cam profiles.

Any reason to own both? I have a monster 1200s and love it. Live in an urban area - don't have a car and drive less then 5k miles a year. Kind of feel like having both is overkill, but I don't want to sell the 1200s because commuting on it makes sense. V4S would make too much heat in traffic, but would be awesome on the weekends. I have a honda 500 to track, but on the larger tracks in my area I could take the SF V4S to really push it on the larger tracks instead of the monster 1200s for that one time of year event in my area. Seems like the SF V4S is better in corners, but don't know your opinion after riding both. Multistrada v4s seems like a smart long term choice, but I really am not interested in touring the country and would rather fly. The nearest large cities 2-4 hour commute I can do on the monster 1200s fine.

Nice Vid. Yah agree, they not meant for the same playpen, but interesting comparaison nevertheless. A comparison with the Tuono V4 1100 Factory would really be great as they are both the same. Stripped down and derived from sportsbikes with very similar equipment. The Superduke R, not really - its much more a Hyper Naked built from the ground up. Just a quick one - has your feul consumption increased since your installed the Arrow slip-on? I think the street fighter looks stupid with those wings, this is not a gp bike, there is no need for that, it is a naked! Also the expert’s agree that all those wings on the gp bike was more negative for handling than the positive top speed. The Monster looks so much better, although I would like for the Ducati to find a way to hide the hosing on the left side. Am afraid that the next 1200s will loose the trellis frame which will be a shame. I have been a bit tough on the street fighter, it is offcourse a beautiful made bike, but would be more beautiful without the stupid wings. Some will say that the wings are necessary, but for a naked ! Come on, a designer should be able to design a naked with enough of downforce without reaching for the wings, to me it looks so gimmicky, a shame.

Don't buy the 1200 monster unless your are a Pro or you want to die. If you hammer the Monster you can not KEEP the front wheel down on the ground. You can have wheely control on but it doesn't matter the front will be floating all over the place. The Street Fighter is different and doesn't scare you like the 1200 Monster. The 821 Monster is alot more settled and more fun to ride.

You can always change the wheelie control on the ducati. I ride it around in touring mode with the engine settings on high. Then when in the city drive it in urban mode. You can hammer on the throttle and never pop a wheelie. Changing to sport mode takes off wheelie control and you have to be smooth on that throttle.

VVill be adding a Monster 1200 S (R? depending on $$$) to give my 1100 Evo 'vvekend blasts' status, the Evo is my first Ducati coming off a TLR 1000 I'm 'maturing'😆, the Suzuki vvas thrilling but uncomfortable on longer rides, the Evo is FUN but only has 7400 miles & I need a daily rider that isn't as service $ intensive $ vvhich the newer 1200 S isn't, got to say I've looked around and tried some 'peers' and 'near peers' but then throvv a leg over the Evo and those melt away, has to be the newer Monster for me 🥰 Really thoroughly enjoyed this comparison, I'll likely vvatch it again periodically, subscribed, great content vvell presented, everything 'clicked'! 👌

KTM SUper Duke R and Monster are the real comparison. Both are bespoke nakeds. These two bikes likely are not really cross shopped. They serve two different areas of riding. The only common factors are they look damn good, sound good, and fun to ride.

Tons of people have asked us for a comparison which explains what you just mansplained 👌

Lol, not sure about mansplaining, more disagreement to the KTM not comparing to the Monster simply because it would lose. But either way, I look forward to the comparison!
