I was at a racetrack the other day on the Superduke. There was a guy in the (really) fast group with a brand new Streetfighter V4. Let's just say he looked like he was enjoying himself... understatement. It was stupendous.

I'm the guy that lives in S/W France....Rode these 2 back to back a couple of weeks ago but as a road bike much preferred the Super Duke. Just did a 500 km road trip last weekend in Spain & absolutely love the 1290. It's a totally different bike to the gen 2. The suspension is on another level, firm but sooo compliant making the ride quality tip top. The back break actually works so important when riding in the mountains & of course front brakes loads of feel & power. The induction roar when going through the canyons was fab & addictive. Sportier riding position but still very comfortable, no aches or pains...... I really wanted to have a change from the Super Duke after having 2 gen 1s & 2 gen 2s but I found the Ducati too much for the road if you wanted to use all it's performance whereas the KTM with all that torque makes it much more usable & easier to ride being the bespoke roadster it is. Maybe the Ducati would be faster on the circuit but personally that's not what i'm looking for. So pleased I chose my 5th Super Duke! My son just bought the new 690 enduro, also fab. Don't forget if you ever come down this way i can show you some fantastic roads & rides.

I test rode a Streetfighter with the full Akra system fitted and still prefer the KTM SD, its stronger lower down the rev range which is more important on the road and more fun. The Streetfighter is very thursty and it doesn't have a fuel gauge or cruise control, small points but if they are important to you the ktm has them along with a USB charging point and is much better on fuel. The Ducati is beautifully made and the suspension is awesome but it felt almost like a 600cc, nothing happens until 9,000rpm and by that point your doing over 100mph and it's so expensive. I got my SD and put all the powerparts on it including the Akra full system for the same price as the stock Streetfighter S.

I love the clutch feel on my Streetfighter. The Panigale’s I have instantly go into wheelies, whereas this one smoothly leaves the line.

Needs chipping to sort the fuelling.... No petrol gauge..... No cruise control.... Not a shred of carbon fibre.... But it’s “only” a 20 grand bike 😳😳!! Way short of the mark for that money, ..I’ll keep my 899 for a while longer thanks Tuono V4 is still king of the Streetfighters imo, plus you can pick a brand spanker up for around £14k, ..now that is value 👍

Very enjoyable vid. Best ride review I've seen so far. It's a lovely bike but wondered if a gearing change might be a plan for more low down go as you'll never get close to the redline & you probably couldn't even hang on anyway! Personally I'm crossing fingers for a V2 Street fighter. That would be an awesome road bike!

I love my 2018 Super Duke R with all horsepower/torque below 9500 rpm. Streetfighter firing order makes it feel like a V2. Torque is limited in first 4 gears. I just bought a 2019 MV agusta Dragster 800rr Pirelli Edition to go with the Beast, SDR

I´m from Germany and I own the Streetfighter V4S since 4 weeks. I like the sound of the bike, because it compares to the look of the bike. My question: how is the situation in Britain because of the noise/sound of motorbikes? In Austria and Germany there are actually curios people in the government, who try to forbid motorcycling at weekends and holiday. The government wants to reduce the noise down to 80Db ( yes: 80Db!!!). Do you have comparable problems in England or doesn`t it matter? Sorry for my bad english, but schooltime is over for more than 30 years. Best Greatings and stay save.

Hi Thomas, wow that sounds bad! It's not as bad here you can get stopped and if you're bike is too loud asked to get it inspected. No EU stamp on exhaust and you could have to change it. But certainly nowhere near as bad as Germany but I can see it going that way!

Ride a StreetFighter with the appropriate exhaust that was intended for the bike, up map,etc. You also have to go into the settings and make all the correct selections to get the full performance. Your riding a bike that’s choked off!!!

Nice review as always Chopsie. Can't get past the glaring fact that throughout the footage you didn't have that excited tone in your voice which is always noticeable when you're loving a demo bike. I reckon 20 grand for this is way over the top. Ducati have dropped the ball on this one for sure. I'll stick with my Speed RS thanks. Cheers from Melbourne 👍

I have to agree. The sound alone is utterly intoxicating. I would have no issue with buying a new Tuono. They’ve had no reliability issues. As long as the V4 is regularly serviced they are a very solid reliable bike..

Lucky boy! I really enjoyed that review. My Monster 1100 Evo weighs about the same but has less than half the horsepower, so I can't begin to imagine what the Streetfighter feels like! I was looking at the V4S in Moto Rapido on Friday and I agree with you about the fit and finish. It's a stunning bike in the flesh and looks much better in person than in pictures. You mentioned that the clutch seemed smoother than your Hypermotard but I think that's down to the Hyper clutch being dry while the Streetfighter's is wet; those dry clutches do tend to be a bit switch-like when pulling away. You also said that you didn't feel overheated even though it was 30°. I believe that this V4 is programmed to shut down the two rear cylinders over a certain temperature when stationary to prevent you getting poached plums so maybe it actually works. Could you tell if/when the cylinders cut out? Anyway, looking forward to the next review. Enjoy!

There is one consistent thing with bike tests in good old blighty , the absence of corners. Aren't there any canyon carving roads, I suppose one must go to a track day , I guess. The only issue your going to have is squaring off all your rear tyres, with this bike. Enjoy your time on it Chops, lucky bugger

Yeah very different and Tuono is showing its age against this and the Superduke now.. electronics are crude in comparison and hamper acceleration where as they are almost unnoticeable on this.. for the money though some bargains to be had on last years Tuono and still incredible

Nice first review and looking forward to hear more commentary on this bike. 20k!! Where is it going to end. The wings and front fender looked very plasticky- for 20k I’d be expecting carbon fibre for this - so even more you might have to pay to retrofit. I still think the Tuono 1100 V4 Factory is the nicest looking Super Naked (even though it cheats a bit with its small front fairing) and with Roughly 175hp that’s more than enough.

Since tomorrow is Canada day I should be picking up my 2020 KTM 1290R hopefully by by Friday, hope no buyer's remorse. Remember the super Duke may look a lot cheaper but you have to option things like quick shifter & race pack, knocks it up to around 18k so comparable with the base v4sf, I actually thing the ducati is quite good value compared to the others.

My SD sales paper said no charge next to the quick shifter maybe freebie from dealer didn’t ask and the race pack was only 240$ in the U.S. mine is a GT though.Plus 20k for a bike with no cruise control which the s version at my local dealer is 22k+.

Hi Chops, I’ve recently watched a few reviews from riders in the US discussing their impressions of this beautiful motorcycle. In comparison I thought you sounded a little underwhelmed on this first ride impression. I’ll be interested to hear your further thoughts after you’ve ridden it a bit longer. Is the rider menu user friendly or cumbersome? What’s the heat like from the motor? Is the steering damper adjustable? Is it ride by wire? Is it purely track orientated or can you get the milk and bread as well? Do you think owners could do their own basic services, oil, filter, coolant etc or does the whole thing have to come to pieces to get to the sump plug? Looking forward to your full review 👍🏍🎥. Hmmm...I think Lamb Chop maybe talked me into a ....Superduke!?! But the other comparos say the Tuono is still king. I have owned a Tuono 1000 V4 and two Superdukes. Seems they "fixed" the Supeduke's dodgy suspension (I agree it was) and gave and EXTRA 10 HP more than the mere 3 HP KTM claimed. The dynos show only 10-12 HP difference between the SFR and SDR--but 20-foot lbs more torque on the SDR. Torque--the stuff you can USE on any street ride. But if Aprilia revamps the Tuono anytime soon that would be a bike!

I had a '15 SDR for 5 years and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I now have a 2020 SDR, and WOW! An unbelievable improvement in every facet that the Gen 1&2 lacked. Curious to see what Aprilia does with the next gen Tuono, but for now, there is no better street weapon than the new SDR

I've got the 2018 superduke..for any thing to top that it would have to be REALLY special..plus ktm looks so much better..and the LC8 engine will likely go down in motorcycling history..imo no LED indicators no cruise, no fuel gauge...not for 20k..not acceptable..good review
