My rental was a Titanium with the 2.0 EcoBoost and AWD. I am a Toyota/Lexus guy at heart, but my lord it was a pleasure to drive. Very comfortable, with nicely dampened suspension however it did not compromise handling. Extremely quiet, not as quiet as my RX but still very impressive compared to other rentals I had. Engine made great power and had no trouble overtaking in Texas traffic. Lane keep assist works amazingly, I barely had to put any inputs, it essentially drove itself the whole time I was there. The only downside is the cheap plastics in the car like Topher said. It was horrendous compared to the cars I have at home. Definitely more plastic than my Rav4. Overall, would not mind buying this used one day for myself or my kids. Good job Ford!

These are evenly good if not better and cheaper. Why would anyone want a regular 28 mpg is dumb and beyond me. I get 565 miles on a full tank for $28 and you can't beat that. from my understanding, this type of hybrid drivetrain (the Toyota-esque planetary gearset CVT kind) doesn't actually have a dedicated reverse gear. To drive in reverse it simply runs the "smaller" electric motor backwards. Normally this motor is tasked with simply being the 'transmission' of the vehicle - it's action on the planetary gear set is what gives you your variable gear ratios. It doesn't actually apply much torque to the wheels. It's also the electric motor (again, there are two of them) tasked with doubling as a generator as needed. The second, much larger electric motor seems to be quieter than the first. Because of all of this, driving in Reverse is the only time you'd ever hear the first motor in isolation. That's a big part of why it sounds so strange.

Chris - I have a question. With hybrids such as this new Escape, could one leave this vehicle on for several hours or maybe even a DAY or two at a time whilst retaining uninterrupted access to heating and A/C without consuming a full tank of fuel? (If I were to test this idea out In colder climates I’d keep all zones synced to automatic 72 or so degrees for autonomy.) I imagine, like other hybrids, that the engine stops running when the vehicle is in park and only starts back up to charge the batteries that power all the other functions when it requires. I’m asking this for very specific reasons lol mainly I’m asking because I personally spend a lot of time behind the wheel idling whilst on my phone or whatever. Also thinking that if it’s as efficient at doing this that it’d also be helpful for owners on nights where drinking exceeds safe/legal driving limits and could benefit from a secure, climate controlled, place to sober up without consuming an absurd amount of fuel during their 2-3 hour or so drunk nap. Keep up the awesome content bro thanks!

That CVT sounds awful. I'd rather stick with a diesel mild hybrid, dual clutch, or standard auto transmission.

Everything about my Escape is nearly perfect EXCEPT the engine sound. Its truly disgusting. I really hope it goes away after the break in period. Also I do agree it literally feels and drives like a small hatch, very impressive.

Sounds like you bought the base 3-cylinder. It has not had positive reviews, especially compared to the Hybrid and Turbo model 4-cylinder engines.

Ford has had bad luck with their 3 cylinder turbos I drove one years ago and was disappointed and it was new under the hood noticed it was already corroding. That was the focus.

The way you spell tire makes me cringe. Nobody spells it like that.
@afcgeo8825 жыл бұрын
He’s right though. “Snow” tires haven’t existed for a couple of decades. There are tires with an “M + S” symbol on them, which are simply “All-Season” tires with extra tread and there are “winter” tires, which are made of a special compound that is softer at below 40°F, where “All-Seasons” harden AND have a narrower tread pattern to reduce drag in deep snow. “Snow” tires of yesteryear focused on deeper treads for deep snow and had available studs, but did nothing for loss of traction in cold weather on on slippery surfaces, which is why they were superseded by “winter” tires. If you want the closest thing to the old “snow” tires, get “all-terrain” tires.
