The Genesis G70 has earned a lot of praise and there's a very distinct German quality to its design, driving dynamics, and interior that's tattooed all over this compact sport sedan. Although the Genesis G70 offers a strong value proposition, should you really consider it over a BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class or Audi A4? In this video, Dan goes through the pros and cons of the Genesis G70 to help you navigate this segment.

Wife had a 2017 3 series biggest pile of shit was at the dealership more then on the road. We eventually got frustrated and bought a 2019 g70 fully loaded with the bigger engine and wow not only do you get all this car for the very fair price but the warranty is insane who else is doing that???? I’m extremely jealous she has this when my lease is up for my current car I will deff be running to pick the new model up here in 2 years.

I test drove a few different vehicles before I made the decided to purchase the Genesis G70. This included Mercedes, BMW, and even the Kia Stinger. The Mercedes, nor thye BMW did anything for me. Talk about outdated. They both still look the same as they did five years ago. The BMW interior, never seems to change. I didn't feel any type of excitement about them after completing my test drive. I felt bored. It was totally different with the G70. The infotainment screen is good, the back seat, don't need it. Large trunk, again don't need it. This purchase was/is my personal daily driver. I don"t need a fancy info screen. I wanted a drivers car. When I'm driving , I'm looking at the road, not some fancy screen. I car about performance, and the G70 delivers. I not a brand snob. I just took my G70 in yesterday for service. I waited, with other Genesis's owners and Hyundai owners. Hour and a half later, service done, vehicle washed. If you think a latte is worth ten thousand dollars, or a fancy screen, or twirl your finger to raise and lower the volume to your radio , go ahead, it's your money.

they look like something out of a car from 2005 or earlier. I agree with him on all his points, and I almost bought one last year. Their biggest issue is the dealer network just doesn't exist in Canada.

Great car. There really are no compromises with the G70 and it has such terrific value. Wish more would shop it

It's *very* cramped inside and has too much cheap plastics and shared features with lesser Hyundai models. Those are serious compromises compared to BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. Even the Lexus IS, despite how outdated it is, doesn't look or feel like a Toyota inside. That's the magic of a premium car, and that's really what's missing here. Cheers!

@@danilika9420 do you really thing the interior is on the same level as Toyota and it's ancient tech? I'm hoping you are just being dramatic like me. This is better than a Toyota with that quilted leather, ect. You are better than that Dan haha

@danilika9420 4 жыл бұрын
Blake Swan I’m not sure where you got that from! What I’m saying is that, while Lexus doesn’t have Toyota touches inside an outdated car like the IS, there are Hyundai touches inside the G70.

There is Plenty of plastic inside the BMW 3 series. I believe it was Kelly Blue book video which showed it. Also the trunk wasn't completely painted. I own multiple vehicles. I purchased the Genesis G70 for me. I don't care about back seat room or trunk space. It's my daily driver. If I need to haul stuff, I have an SUV for that. If I need passenger space, I have a 2012 Hyundai Azera for that or the SUV. As far as the tech goes, it does what I need it to do. I'm not stupid enough to pay extra to twirl my finger to lower and raise the volume of the radio. Then again, after watching a lot of videos, people don't purchase BMW, Mercedes new, they lease them. So by the time someone really purchase them, the tech is 3 years old away. Genesis G70 is due for a refresh. Judging by the Genesis G80 and Gv80, the refreshed G70 is going to be even better than the current model. It's the Genesis G70 that's winning all of the awards!

@Genesis G70 I can appreciate that you feel the need to defend the car you purchased, and I’m glad you’re happy with the G70, but you’re missing the point here. Sure, it works for you in a multi-vehicle household, but for those looking to purchase a small sedan like this as their *only* vehicle, trunk space and rear seat room *will* matter - and that’s where the G70 is compromised compared to the competition. The same goes for some of the plastics and controls inside; they feel downmarket compared to a 3 Series or C-Class. (Ditto the infotainment systems.) I’m a fan of a lot of what the G70 does, but I can confidently say that it’s not without compromise.

Really disagree about g70. Love that it’s a RWD answer to 3 series. Smaller, yes! But it’s similar to my previous 2010 328i. In my mind, it’s a better compact sedan than what BMW has done by growing the 3 in the last few generations and then replacing its previous smallest sedan in North America with a FWD 2 series. As far as the cost cutting (the non-differentiated but excellent Hyundai infotainment, some switchgear etc) I’m okay with it because they are following Lexus’ original strategy of quality and value compared to established name plates. I’m in the market for a RWD sedan or maybe squeezing my kids into the back of a manual 240i and keeping my current Mazda 6 Manual. Depends, on the 2021 updates to the g70 because the manual/clutch combo is not great currently.

Going to preface by saying I own a G70 (3.3) but going to try to be as unbiased as I can. The G70 exists as a sports car with some luxury and not the other way around like the Germans. Not much exists in terms of power for the price point. Yes the center console is bit bland but it works, it’s not like you stare at while driving anyway. The back seats and trunk are small but I don’t feel it was designed in mind to haul things or people. Back seats are sufficient for shorter trips or for kids in general. If you’re loyal to the German brands that’s fine but as others have said, there really isn’t anything special about them anymore. Unless you have an R8 or an AMG GT. You see a 3 series, A series or C class and it’s like “oh, nice/cool a “X” the G70, at least in my experience, has turned heads and I’ve gotten numerous compliments and questions, usually someone asking if it’s a Bentley but it stands out against the competition because it’s something new and refreshing to the market and for thousands less the other guys yes it has minor short comings in luxury but that’s what the G80/G90 is for. For me I bought it for the performance and just enough luxury for my taste. In the end if you’re proud of your car that’s all that matters no matter if it’s the new kid or the well established giants of the class.

Frankly, badge envy is oversold for the German automakers. There are *soooo* many BMWs and Mercedes on the road that I've become numb to their existence. They just aren't special anymore, and don't we all want *special* or *exceptional* vehicles? Genesis is exceptional. Great looks (yes, I know, this is subjective). Great value. Great performance. And word is getting around about how great this car is. It may become a recognizable marque sooner than you think. I just bought a 2.0L G70 this week. Love it. No regrets.

Are the window switches really cheap plastic ones from a Hyundai? They look metal and high quality to me but I’ve never seen the car in person. Also I’ve never seen other reviews call the feel of the hvac controls downmarket either, it looks like a high quality metal knob. Is this review accurate?

I’m comparing this to the Subaru Legacy GT Premium, available for 39 thousand Canadian. I suppose the Subaru has slightly less handling, that I can fix and tune myself anyway with sway bars and wheels, but it has a better AWD system for weather.

I agree the rear seat space is too small. But the navigation works better than many of the other cars so maybe you should just take any experience bite your tongue on the minore visuals as it comes with both Android auto and Apple carplay

The only thing in a G70 that is shared with a Hyundai is the infotainment. You might want to know what you're talking about prior to talking. Also, the dimensions aren't that far of from a 3 series. But you're on point with the driving experience. 👍

Interior opinions were a bit too harsh. Climate controls are easy to use and intuitive...the way it should be. Definitely not outdated. As for infotainment system and buttons (windows) coming from Hyundai. Buttons still feel premium and speaks more to how good Hyundai’s are. As for infotainment, definitely agree, they should have put in the G80 or G90 GUI.

You use negativity to get people to view your video. I own Genesis G70. Everything works great . Am I supposed to pay extra to twirl my finger around just to raise and lower the volume of the radio, when my left thumb is on the steering wheel next to the volume button? You were not honest with your review. First and last view of videos from you. If you just wanted views, just tell the truth. Instead you lost a subscriber. Goodbye!

@Genesis G70 I can appreciate your desire to defend the G70, but I was more than honest and fair in my assessment. As I said in my closing, it’s objectively great to drive, but it doesn’t have the cachet of a competitor like the 3 Series.

I actually never agree with this reviewer, but as someone that researched this car to the point of obsession before test driving one....he is right on the money with this review. The car was dated before it even hit North America and when you are aiming for the Germans do not hold any punches. They knew the 3 series was due for a refresh when they designed this yet they still made it too small, took a tiny infotainment screen straight from their stinger, took the air con controls straight from an old Hyundai and while it drives excellent, it is hard on gas much harder than their competitors and needs more options and tech inside. The refresh will address some of these issues but the size of it can not be fixed as easily.

Der Schwindel dont touch if you don’t want, it’s been more reliable than the Germans. The G70 is very solid just because it’s sister car in a car wow video had interior inconsistencies doesn’t mean this car does too. And always expect a promo/press/demo car to not be perfect.

If you really want a true Genesis with nothing in common with its parent company (other than incredible value) you should check out the 2021 G80 or GV80 if you're into SUVs. Believe me, if your shallow neighbors saw a 2021 G80 parked in your driveway, they would drool over your new "Bentley" They will be even more jealous when it will be delivered to your house in a LED illuminated glass container like some sort of three figure supercar. But yeah, sure, I guess none of that has cachet right?

Easily the least credible review of the car on the net...”One of the worst things is the infotainment, it’s the same as the one in every Hyundai...which is one of the best infotainment systems in the business”. Also in 2020 any automotive reviewer that values brand cache in this segment (we aren’t talking Ferrari, or Porsche brand recognition) is clearly out of touch with the market.

Canada you say? As I watched this review, discussing such things as power window switches and climate control design, it seems the G70 may not yet be perfect. However, you must give Hyundai credit for how far they have come. They will get there, we can be sure of that. Then I realized this review is from Canada. In the meantime, what offering comes from Canadian car companies? Oh I forgot, there are no Canadian car companies. Not even one. Foreign owned firms like General Motors, Ford, Honda, Chrysler operating assembly plants in Canada do not count. To make a product like the G70 requires business smarts, confidence and a competitive determination. Those attributes are perhaps lacking in Canada and they best stick to exporting timber.

what a terrible review, almost everyone is praising BMW for making another king of sedans this year. The new 330i just nailed it and it is a far superior car in almost any way and it is not more expensive. Also a person who buys a luxury car does care about the badge and recognition. No sane person would pay Rolex money for a Casio just because it has better features!

This guy's an IDIOT! He's the IDIOT BMW targets with twirl your finger to lower and raise the volume to the radio. A sucker born every day. You should read the current issue of Motor Trend ,the article on the Genesis G70. It states when someone buys a new BMW, people only say "Oh, O.K." I live in Southern California, where you see as many BMW as you do Toyota Corolla. Here nothing special about BMW, just another person who paid too much to adjust their radio volume. I guess everytime you stop at a stop sign you are looking to see if anyone is looking at your car, Hee Hee! Oh by the way, this channel voted Genesis G70 2020 compact luxury car of the year! Hee Hee!
