this is what tmf used to do so well , but he just does the easy guided tours in sunny climates now. Your commentary is spot on and describes what biking is all about.........especially to 'therapy' bit. Going out on a bike ride is like a mind reset , more so when you come back from a tour.

Enduring the first week of 24 in lockdown, I thoroughly enjoyed this 4 part trip north. I lived in Caithness for 20 years and often returned on trips to visit family, so many of the roads you were travelling on are deeply ingrained in my memory. You really must visit Orkney when things are better - it is a fabulous place, full of ancient history, and I think you'll find many great photos to take. The far north is a truly spectacular landscape - unspoilt until recently, when wind money enticed landowners to spoil it with their greed. Thanks for the glimpses of a land I knew well...

I've been tooling around on a Manual 2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sport today, without the electronic suspension. It is so SO much better than the 2016 I had. Lighter (I mean, yeah, this isn't the DCT) and way more responsive! Love it, absolutely love it. You're absolutely right, this isn't down on power now at all.

Onyer Triumph No I don’t own one but have been seriously looking at them along with the Tennere and the AT. Trying to sell my current ride BMW K 1200LT. The draw to adventure riding is growing inside me and want to get off asphalt this year and see more than what just regular roads can offer. For me one big factor is areas covered for servicing especially here in Canada. I had a 1995 Triumph Sport 900, one of the models Hinckley put out when they resurrected the brand. The triple engine designed by Cosworth was bullet proof, but constant carburetor headaches kept it in the garage more than the road. I waited it seemed forever for the new Trophy to come out but that was a huge disappointment so I bought the beemer. A fabulous bike for comfort and great gas mileage great on highway and twisties but in around town and heavy slow traffic she’s a pig. So Triumph and BMW dealerships are a little thin on the ground compared to Japanese bikes. Sad really the solidly reliable Japanese bikes have a huge area they service and is barely needed and the unreliable brands provide little to no service.

Nice trip and an excellent reveiw of the Bike Richy. Judging by your comments through the video's of this trip, you would love Shetland, the last northern bit of the UK (beyond Orkney). The scenery is wonderful, the people are lovely, the roads are the best in the UK (due to the oil income). There is a midsummer motorcycle rally (The Simmer Dim Rally) if you are into group drinking and music! The rally is off for this year due to Covid 19 but that gives you lots of time to plan for next year. Regards Sarah

Cracking vid again Rich, lovely little video series! For those of you who are interested in the 2020 AT there's a very nice option available on the DCT and that's a foot shifter. I means you can just affect the DCT with your foot rather than the buttons on the bars (so glad they've moved the buttons a bit on the 2020 and added autocancelling indicators on this model, on my old 2016 version I kept hitting the downshift when I was cancelling the indicator - terrifying dropping in to first on a roundabout). As for the comment about the DCT beating the manual off the lights? Absolutely, you need something with launch control to beat it.

100% agree on the gear changing points. I feel it’s much faster than a manual. Just crank it and boom.. 20 feet jump before any car driver even depresses the clutch. And a rip arm out of sockets moment lol. And yes 30 mins or so to get use to it. However if it’s a moment of yes a car pulling out in you. Great series Richy, reminded me of my trip in the highlands in 2013, and I live in Australia, done the big circle of the the UK in 2 weeks. London to London via John O'groats, Manchester and Cardiff nice easy trip with as little motorway as possible. What has me baffled is, what do you do on a modern motorcycle ? When I started riding 40 years ago the theory was learn to use you clutch, brake and throttle and you will be a good rider who can ride anything. Now with new bikes having DCT, ABS and traction control all that is out the window, it is taking the skill and joy out of the equation. Sadly new bikes are losing there appeal, they are just a machine, a toy.

From Dornoch, you could've headed down towards Inverness, then skirted across Loch Ness towards Fort William (the bottom is actually better than the top IMHO), then down the A82, much better than the A9 IMO :D Where you took the pic on the causeway at Tongue, we took our sunset pic on the bridge just after, there was some seals in the background. The road you did that nobody else does, we did lol, we met up with 1 other person, which came in handy as my mates phone mount had broken and was flapping around, so the guy took him home (ooh err, yes, we left him to that lol) and fixed it.

Quick question, the low or night vision glasses, would you think you could wear them over normal glasses under a helmet? Main problem is, if you don't get your normal glasses adjusted correctly, you can suffer a bit of pain around the old lug holes!! Apart from that, great video, I have some heated gloves, but, they just warm the back of your hands and miss the thumbs!!

Great bike the AT, I have a 2017 DCT model. The new one looks and is according to your review mega but is 50% more spends than the 2017 new (Honda were doing seals on the DCT three years ago). There’s more kit on it with adaptive suspension, cruise control and better seat height for most but still too much extra for me when the finance deal on my current one expires and it goes back to Honda.
