On my Tiger, ran about 3k miles on stock street tires, switched to Motoz 50/50, HUGE difference off-road, sketchy mental feelings on road. Still getting used to them, now I’m convinced it’s all in my head. Been about 4K miles, they’ve never slipped or gotten squirrely so far. Bought the bike mainly for off-roading. Hope this is of use. LOVE the intro, not outdated at all. 👍🏼 😎 🇺🇸 🌎

I have decades of experience using magnetic tank bags with no paint damage. Get a sheet of that rubbery lacey looking stuff your auntie uses to stop the cups sliding about on the tea tray and cut it to size and shape. The bag won't tend to move and the paint is not being rubbed by the bag vibrating against it.

Hi Ricky, I put the foot shifter on my DCT, not cheap, about £300 I think but let’s me ride like a bike with a quick shifter if I want, more natural for me than buttons. I’m running the E07 tyres on mine and like them but I’ve got a second set of wheels with Conti Trail Attack 2 for road only riding. The AF is such a great all rounder.

I'm trading my 2019 africa twin for a new CRF450L next week. I'm a big guy, and I purchased the AT for off road and adventure riding, but it's more of a dirt bike shaped street bike and commuter. 550 pounds plus whatever you pack on it, will make it a hand full on anything worse than forest roads. I can't imagine trying to ride one over the passes in colorado. The 450 dual sport will be my off-road choice, and the trusty VFR will continue to be the street choice. The africa twin, for a multi purpose bike, serves no real purpose to me after owning one for a while. It's a great bike, just not for me. Opinions will vary...

The trail you were on was heavily dished so tricky but you will find with some time that moving a bit faster, more like 20mph is far less effort. When you can get the bike spun up to gyro stability and get it floating over the ruts more, it's a lot easier. The trouble is that your head is screaming at you to go at a crawl until you adjust. My other favorite thing is after spending an hour or so on loose dirt and gravel, when you hit the pavement on the ride home you feel like you are riding on velcro by comparison. GL with the new ride, I'm not sure I fit on the AT yet, need to try and find one but I've been seriously considering going for a DCT myself lately. ** Ah I commented before watching the full video, you know what I am talking about with speed on the dirt :-)

Bit late to the party, but let me drop my 2 cent on knobly tyre, GSA Owner for reference, i've tried Michelin Anakee Adventure, great tyre on road (dry and wet) plenty of grip, stable not to noisy, long lasting, did about 12.000 km with the last set, trip to scandinavia and they do work off road (mind you, i'm the lest capable offroad rider ever, but this did help a lot, i can feel more secure), yes next scandinavia run will be using this. Another one is the Pirelli Scorpion Rally SRT (that's some name!) amazing grip on the road, truly outstanding (even on the wet) quick warmup even a 0 dagrees! And very good off road performance... however... very noisy, they move quite a lot (but you get used to that quick) the TC on the GSA didn't really like them, when lean over was a continuos blinking of the warning light (probably was the tyre profile, since the grip was amazing) and wrost thing, the rear lasted 6000 Km, that was during winter and lockdown, the second one (no winter or lock) didn't get to 5000 km, but front did manage to last 11.000 but was very uneven...

So I drove the manual version in summer last year for about 400 miles and the only thing I didn't like about it was the kinda jerky throttle. On the open road it was great but in traffic it always felt like the throttle was too much or too little. Does the DCT smooth that out? I gotta say I had a bit of a mini adventure, went from london to birmingham and back, filtered on motorways, scratched some back lanes and got caught in some flash flooding and had to cross some flooded roads and drive on some awful surfaces covered in branches downed from trees and all sorts. For a off road guy it would be nothing ... but I am not an off road guy by any stretch and am used to Ninjas/GTRs and yet it felt so secure and excellent for all the touring and adventure stuff. Just felt like it didn't make sense around london with the throttle

Good to hear you’re getting on with the new tyres ok. It’s a bit of a leap-of-faith when you start riding bikes where the requirements are different to what you know. I still think I’m going to get the Michelin Anakee Adventures though. An 80/20 but given the amount of off road I do, they’ll suit me fine.

Re phone, Richy - you should consider using a phone mount that has anti-vibration capabilities/options. I’ve extensively looked into the issue you describe and basically the phone’s sensitive image stabilisation features found in later phones are not compatible with the vibration frequencies resonating from motorcycle engines. To my knowledge you have a choice of SP Connect and its Anti-Vibration module or Quad Lock and its Vibration Dampener. No problems with iPhones with one installed. Maybe time to sideline Ultimate Add-on for a mount more suitable? Three of us have been using anti-vibration device with Quad Lock for several months with iPhone 11 Pros and have encountered no issues. Maybe check my phone mount comparison vid out? 😉 Hope it helps and, BTW, jealous you now own the Africa Twin. Congrats 🏍💨👍🏼

Accessories: high fender (raised front mudguard) from Altrider. Otherwise if you take it in heavy mud you'll be ejected (like I did) when it clogs - ripped the mudguard off and through me over the front.
@RichyVida
@RichyVida 3 жыл бұрын
Oh dear? We’re you ok? I’m not sure I like the look of that high fender, but do understand it’s point and benefit. You must’ve been giving it some for that to happen?!
@joshbro99k96
@joshbro99k96 3 жыл бұрын
@@RichyVida Once you put knobblies on there is minimal clearance on the standard mudguard. It doesnt take much to clog it - just some sticky mud. The high "fender" doesnt affect the bike even at top speed, so no issues with it. I was fine as I wasn't going that fast, but it pissed me off...

Hey Richy from across the big pond in the US. Quick question...Who is the manufacturer of the riding jeans you wear? I am a teacher and riding to school with my usual full gear brings issues of having to bring other attire to change into and all of that. Riding jeans would be so much more efficient. Loving my two VFR's. 84' 700 Interceptor and 2013 VFR 1200 F. Ride safe brother!

Long time since watching your Scotland vids in Jan last year, but it was the right choice mate. I love it. Do me a favor mate, Lemme know if the SW Motech tanklock bag will fit with your Ultimateaddons case in landscape orientation, as per this vid. Welcome home, mate! I'm very pleased for you. You must feel like a king now after all these years, and now getting to spend your quality time with your beautiful Family! Fitted the tankbag, and you're right. The phone is lost behind it. I'm going to raise the phone, with an extender, but yet to decide if it's the best way with tank bag attached. Might just be that the phone lives inside the tank bag when touring, just to provide CarPlay/Navigation etc.

On tyres, mine came with Metzeler Karoo 3s - they look great and so far no issues at all on road, wet, dry, cold, warm. A bit of whining at speed but once I'd worked out what it was (!) it doesn't bother me. They cope really well with gravel and rocky tracks, exciting (hopeless) in mud! They are wearing fast though, about 2.5K and the back is squaring off. I'm torn about what to buy next as I love taking the big girl off road and doing events with Rallymoto but most of my mileage is on road. Maybe we just have to accept changing them regularly?

Tkc 70 continentals. Haven't tried your Dunlops but the contis are superb in the wet and great on dry trails. Think Northern Spain, southern Portugal, Greece etc etc. Wouldn't trust them on slimy trails though. 13000 miles (admittedly 660cc bike so half the big lads power) . Derbyshire for 6 days in June. Can't wait Happy travels

You need the Guglatec Mazinga kit bud. Will save your fuel pump from failing and leaving you stranded. This is due to magnesium welds in fuel tank flaking into fuel stream. Honda's recall didn't prevent this from ongoing. Absolutely love my 2020 ATASes! Keep on smiling eh, 🇨🇦
