The punch also depends on the quality of the fuel. I have a 2019 i20 elite Asta and even I personally felt i20 had an underpowered lazy engine. I used BP/HP Petrol. I switched to Shell petrol and suddenly I notice a punch in the engine. The car picks up quite well in 1st gear or even 2nd gear and does not have knocking effect on low gears in steep roads /flyovers. i20 is a powerful vehicle in its segment.

Even previous version had ARAI rating of 19kmpl but real-life city mileage was in single digits. CVT was worse at 7-8kmpl. Comparatively Jazz 1.2 cvt returns 10-12kmpl and baleno is way ahead at 13-15kmpl

Maine last week new i20 1.2 ka test drive liya, sach batao aisa lagga jaise wagon r chal ri hai apni i20 se bhi kam power feel hui.....or aisa lagga k ek halki car chala ra hu..... Mazza nahi aya...cabin noise bhi hai jo suspension or tyre se atta hai... Fir venue chalai same 1.2 wali wo mujhe thodi zyada powerful lagi or zero sound in cabin.......drive comfort bhi bohot acha lagga or car thodi heavy feel hui. Jo log i20 ka sports model dekh rahe hai wo venue ka s varient consider kar sakte. Lekin rear seat space or comfort i20 ka bohot acha laga jo apko venue me thoda kamm milega

If you want a toruey engine n wanna feel the rush go for diesel but if u gonna drive it almost all the time in city n more importantly you gonna drive it in a calm way then 1.2 should get the job done.

S cross for the engine but top end i20 has better interiors hands down. Do check them out both n go where the heart is.

Dont know about much s cross, but it is 4 star rated and well built structurally. I20 feels light and on smooth roads the suspension is really good but once cracked old roads appear (not potholes) there is road noise in the cabin. - my i20 cvt city 9kmpl highway 11kmpl 😔 - potholes easily felt. - engine is smooth and vibration free but above 2000 the engine noise enters the cabin. With music you wont notice it. - with 5 people the engine suffers in pickup but once 30kmph reaches then no issues. I have to rev to 2500rpm to get the car moving at a decent speed and there is lag even when im alone. It is called rubberband effect. This and low speed mileage are the main drawback of cvt.

It was for the wife and she fell for its looks.🙄 I heard even in the manual transmission, the engine doesn't match that of a suzuki. If you enjoy driving and occasionally want to feel the rush of linear power i suggest you go for german or japanese cars. Also s cross i think is 4 star rated. Brezza and s cross are well built cars of maruti. i20 ncap is not out but a similar HB20 (brazilian hyundai i20) has 0 star rating. If looks doesnt matter i would go for s cross. i20 is good looking and feature rich but only if you buy asta. Asta auto was way out of my budget thats why i bought sportz.
