I just purchased one and drove from STH Perth to Busselton, just awesome. So comfortable to drive, the safety aspects are amazing. Yes it’s a little bland looking and certainly doesn’t stand out but for me that was a bonus, I don’t want my car to stand out. I drove past a petrol station and couldn’t believe the queue of cars trying to beat the 27c per litre petrol increase the next day. I arrived at Airbnb and plugged in and 12 hours later 80% battery.

I just got a 2019 Cerato GT. Probably will be my last ICE car so I am glad I got a nice one. As soon as there is a EV in $30k range I will get one, I don't really need much range as I only do 15-25km per day and taking 20 seconds to plug it in, in the garage is really no issue.

Nice review. Just remember you don't drive an EV to empty before considering refilling it, just top it up on a regular basis. Overnight is best, or when it's sitting around while you're shopping/grab a coffee. Great car, good range, looks 'normal' :-)

Hello from Canada, Simone! Thanks for your review. As an owner of a Prius Prime, I wish Toyota had gone this route and offered a full EV Prius. When my lease is up, I will definitely check out an Ioniq EV. Stay safe!

Thanks for the input David. You are right and Toyota have really hedged their bets on Hybrid over full EV for now. We’ll be interested to hear what you think of the Ioniq when you check it out 😊

What a beautiful lady! As always a nice review. Greetings from Germany! We have a somewhat lockdown, but I'm one of the few, who still can (or has to) go to work normally (no, I'm not in the medical or retail branch). Figures show we're slowly getting better every day. That mentioned, I'm sorry for everyone everywhere who has hard times whether on your own or your beloved ones. Times will get better again and please stay safe and healthy!

Thanks for your feedback Bioniq Bob. I agree, I think the more time you spend with the Ioniq the more you realise how the paddles can contribute to extending the range. As for taking it out of sport... wouldn’t that be less fun?! 😈😁

Hey Simone, Great review as always. With regards to the car. Er the Ioniq design not pleasant to my eye, I think Hyundai design department could do better eg the I30N or the new 2020 I20. Im still a little reluctant to ever buy EV, rather buy a hybrid, Can happen that you may forget to charge your car and that's a big inconvenience. Tech wise there's still room for improvement. As for the COVID 19 well where I am in beautiful Seychelles it does worry us a lot. Health measures are in place and social distancing is being put into practice, Just like everywhere or almost everywhere schools, shops, casinos etc, are closed and international flights cancelled. We have low number of 10 cases as of today with so far no community spreads here. We hope it continues to stay as it is, So far only god knows. Anyway stay safe everyone wherever you may be in the world

You forgot to mention the sluggish fast charging. The old model is much faster, almost twice as fast!
@richardlphillips4 жыл бұрын
If you charge them both they both actually reach the same range in a similar timeframe, but not the same percentage of battery SOC. So yes I spose it's true but feel like it's a bit of a negative spin as you wouldn't be worse off in the new one and for extending trips you leave with more range but on the flip side have to hang around a bit longer for a full charge.
@richardclipson12954 жыл бұрын
I now that the 38, 2020 model. I’ll take the additional range and the upgraded interior over the supposedly “sluggish” charging time.

IF only the Australian governments would drop LCT (Luxury Car Tax) on entry level EVs and maybe even offer incentives to buyers (like they did with Solar). Also, I live in Far North Queensland, and we get massive amounts of sun, and yet there is virtually nowhere to buy an EV (and virtually no charging points).
@theairstig91642 жыл бұрын
There is no LCT on entry level electric passenger cars. The value is indexed annually and it kicks in over $88k in 2022. What EV is entry level and over $88k?

She needs to learn that the extra range isn't just something simple, it's re-engineering the interior to make extra battery room. Of course the Kona will have better range, it's a larger car and allows for the room to accommodate the batteries.

@@BenzinioB Good gawd you don't get it. V8 diesels are horribly slow & weak, they top out at 1000lb/ft & 500hp for top end drive trains. FYI the Tesla Sedan & SUV P100D drive train is 920lb/ft & 700hp. BEV Equivalent can easily be 1400lb/ft & 1000hp. Electric Pickup Trucks are coming, they are all stupid powerful and crazy quick. Closest ICE equivalent is a Shelby Supersnake F150 at $110,000 USD with options you want. Issue is Half Tonne of Battery is simply more powerful than any reliable mass produced engine.
