Yo J, Here's an article on the Trust "Message" fork which is the 130mm travel version (the "Shout" is ~170mm) and scroll down to "How It Rides" where they compared it to a Pike. For your Ripley the "Message" would be dialed, but for the HD5 you'd definitely want to try the "Shout". Enjoy gearjunkie.com/trust-performance-message-front-suspension

I really enjoyed this bike at Outerbike. Tied with another bike as my favorite that I rode there. I've been on an HD4 a couple times and I didn't notice a huge difference. Although, I didn't do any high speed downhills in Moab. Mostly technical stuff. I was a little worried about the longer reach on the 5, but the bike felt fine. I thought it climbed well, including the techy stuff. Ibis does a good job.
@mtbyumyum5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, overall not too different from the HD4. Just some minor tweaks here and there to update it and make it more current... new suspension is so good though!

I went to an Ibis demo here in Norcal last weekend. I went primarily to demo the new Ripley. But since one wasn't available in my size at the moment, I demo'd the HD5. I rode up some very steep ( almost vertical) fireroads and felt it didn't climb as well to what I'm used to ( my V1 Ripley). I felt it wasn't the best place to demo because there was a lot of chunk and not a lot of open trails. When I finally hopped on the Ripley, I was very impressed - Wow! Super nimble and pedals easy up and down!
@mtbyumyum5 жыл бұрын

Awesome review. Exactly what I want out of a bike and really like the comparison to the Yeti. I currently ride a HD3 for my enduro bike and also have a V10 for a DH bike. I'm hoping on being able to sell the HD3 and V10 and get the HD5 to replace both of them. When I ride park I don't even get close to riding the V10 to it's ability, so I'm hoping that the HD5 can replace both.

My goal is to be able to feel, understand, and articulate the way that my bike rides, the way that you do. I’m always wondering if my rebound is where it should be, if my shock has the right amount of sag, etc. it’s like I want to KNOW that the ride can’t get any better. Haha. I know I’m probably obsessing. Anyway, I’ve watched your videos for years now...back when you were riding the 5010 and I love your channel. I’ve ridden an Anthem with 130F 110R travel for my entire MTB rising life. Moved to Knoxville TN so the trails are more technical and more downhill sections than central Mississippi. I don’t have any instances where I climb for long periods of time and then descend...maybe a 5 minute climb here and there but mostly a quick climb and a quick descend, etc. Because I’m so concerned with having a good climbing type of bike, I feel like the travel I have is probably ideal, but could be wrong. Have you ridden any bikes lately 140 travel and below that you really love? I’m getting the itch for a new bike. Thanks man
@mtbyumyum5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I understand how you feel... I'd recommend riding around the yard with the rebound all the way open and go off the curb and stairs or whatever you have around.... then again w the rebound all the way closed... this will give you an idea of two different setups that dont feel good or correct. Then start making adjustments. These will give you a reference point to work from... good luck. I'll talk more about this in the live stream Sunday evening!

@mtbyumyum5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'd be interested to ride the new sb165... looks like a beast! After riding the sb140, it felt like a bigger bike than 140mm and was very stable at speed.
@lowflyingdonut5 жыл бұрын
As a heavier rider, trying to gain more experience on different bikes and setups, I notice I can either wallow, sit too low in the sag, or with enough pressure, lose the sensitivity. Between the two options, I would forgo the active feeling to have support and pedaling efficiency.
@thesingletrakmind68605 жыл бұрын
Check out Spot bikes! Try the Rollik if you're into 27.5 (because they're awesome). Crazy efficient pedaling, but it really gets into its travel when you need it.
@lowflyingdonut5 жыл бұрын
@@thesingletrakmind6860 Thank you I have considered a lot of bikes but Spot was bot on my Radar. I went from 26 to 29, never tried a 275 yet. @jack915223 жыл бұрын
I went from an HD4 to an SB130 and the SB130 definitely climbs better and is more playful but it's not as confident as the HD4 going down. However the SB130 is still a really good descending bike for a 130 travel. I'm actually itching to try the HD5 since I liked the HD4 a lot.

Most people seem to really like 29er’s… maybe give it a try!

Hey man! I've been riding my medium 2014 Giant Trance SX for a while now, but I've been looking to possibly upgrade this year. I'm 5'11" and 190lbs. I'm in WV and we have some semi-chunky descents and quite a bit of climbing, which sucks on the Trance. I'm set on either the SB140 C1 build, or the HD5 GX build, as I'd like to keep it around $5,500. I'd also consider a used HD4. Just looking for something playful on the downhills but with a steep STA because I suck at climbing. lol Thoughts? Thanks!

MTB yumyum Just been looking at the old SC 5010 medium numbers (my last full sus’ bike). And the Mojo HD 1 (previous bike) numbers. And the medium HD5 is bigger in every way except seat tube length. Would you recommend this or the Jeffsey? Trying to buy a new bike
@pjsanab4 жыл бұрын
The_Sauze_Channel the Jeffsy bobs during climbs like a typical Horst Link suspension. If you want a ground hugging bike then go Yeffsy. If you want a magic carpet, very agile bike, good climbing and descending then HD5. My recommendation would be HD5, however every suspension has their ups and downs. The downs of Ibis bikes are the lower and upper linkage trap small pebbles which is annoying and could potentially ruin your frame. Ibis now provides a rock flap for the lower link and a mud guard will take care of the upper. Some get a bit more creative, this issue usually happens on very wet, muddy rocky terrain. Not a deal breaker for me, there are tons of ways how to solve this issue. YT problems are many, quality, paint, lengthy waits to get a bike, poor customer service, etc. You might buy a YT in stock to then receive an email saying they don’t have it in stock and you have to wait 6 months to get it (pre-covid era).

Yeah, If I were consistently riding chunky trails and not needing to pedal for 2+ hour rides the Ibis HD5 would be my choice. I also really liked the sb140 but the HD5 had more "fun factor" to it. All that said, I like to do a lot of longer days in the saddle and for a one bike to do it all I would have to go with the Ibis Ripley with a 140mm Pike or a Rocky Mountain Instinct. Good luck!
