Finally a review that mentions stop-and-go traffic usability 🤤 That stuff plays a bigger part in the whole riding experience than more people realise!! I have 2 questions, glad if you could answer them, having ridden both r3 and ninja 400 back to back. Of the two bikes, which would have a smoother throttle response? I.e. rolling on/off throttle at low rpm without harsh fuel injection cut. That considered without having to extensively slip clutch. Secondly, vibration levels compared between these 2 bikes at their respective cruising speed/rpm. ^Really glad if you could help me answer these questions!! Viewer from Singapore here, where low-speed lane splitting and weekend long straights are common :]
@iazncrackitech3 жыл бұрын
this comment is very relatable. Stop and Go traffic while lane splitting in Los Angeles is a pain in the rear.. being a skinny dude weighing 130lbs ( 5'6"), I realized that 650cc and 700cc bikes were too big for me to daily. Also, being able to flat foot and push/waddle a LIGHT bike is a wonderful perk if you have very limited garage space. Bigger bikes are fun, just not a great daily imo.

@@DukeOfDC bought it with about 1000 miles on it. Has an M4 Street Slayer, fender eliminator, integrated rear and front turn signals. Also it has frame sliders along with front and rear spools. Everything I'd want to do to it is already done. As I'm well into my 20's, I did actually want a 650 as my first bike. As I continued to check out prices, this Yamaha R3 popped up on a local dealers site. After checking about insurance, the R3 was my choice. The insurance is about a third of what I'd pay for a Ninja 650. And with a bike payment under $80, you cannot beat that. I can see myself buying a bigger bike for sure, but I think this R3 will be mine for a long time.

Sidenote, these 400 Ninjas have been around for a long time but were not sold in US and EU until couple years ago. They are very popular in Asia - many people in Japan, for example, only get 400cc license. Though I am most likely replacing mine for a Z650 or MT07 I actually don't think you need a larger bike than these 400s for urban commuting.

I used to own the first Ninja, 1984 Ninja 900. bought it new when it first came out, but for the last ten years I have been riding a Ninja 250, because wear I live is allot of town riding with traffic. and an occasional place to open the bike up, so I don't really need a 900, but lately I have been curious about getting a big bike again. so I went to the Kawi dealer today to try the new Z900 but they didn't have one to test. he said he will have a test one in a few days. and the only bike he had to test was the Ninja 400. so I said let me take out the 400. and as soon as I took off down the street on it I was loving it. it feels as light as my 250. but with allot more zip. it was just so much fun to ring out the gears. and so easy to change lanes and wip around, and the riding position isn't to extreme like some of the new sport bikes. and it really twisted my thinking. the couple of days ago I test road a Yamaha MT09, and the bike is an insane race horse. and you feel like you are risking your life riding it. it pulls your arms out of your shoulder sockets, and it was to much for me, so it was my intention to try to test the mt07. but the dealer near me doesn't have one for testing right now. that is why I went to Kawasaki. and I thought why not try another 900 since I owned one before, anyway, now I am strongly considering getting the Ninja 400. the way I look at it is. I would rather have a bike that I can ride to the edge of its ability, than a super insane bike wear I can never get close to riding it to the bikes ability. so even though I am an experienced rider who has ridden bikes my entire life. I really love the 400 Ninja, to me it's not just a beginner bike at all. it's just a light weight fun smaller bike. that has allot less potential for getting into trouble and ending up wrapped around a telephone pole somewhere. or spread across a mountain side on the outside of a canyon turn some where like a peace of meat. the little 400 Ninja gets a thumbs up from me.

Hi, I have been looking around the internet to learn about motorcycles as I am interested in getting one. This is probably a stupid question but I am curious none the less. If you are riding a motorcycle in fourth gear and are approaching a stoplight, do you shift down throughout the gears step by step or can you just pull in the clutch, stop, and then kick down into first? Also, when you are stopped at a red light, do you put the bike into neutral or can you stay in first gear with the clutch pulled in? Does that harm the transmission? I would really appreciate it if someone could answer this question, no matter how stupid it is!

Hey, Joe Re: clutch approaching stop light - either way is ok. Stay in 1st gear with your clutch pulled in, in case the idiot behind you doesn't realized that you're stopped. That way, you can zoom out of the way and let the idiot behind you crash into something else. And, to that point, don't stop directly behind the car in front - or you might get smashed by the dufus behind you - be off to one or the other side of the lane - an escape route. Transmission/clutch in a motorcycle, unlike a car, is a "wet" clutch, you won't harm it. Enjoy the ride - SAFELY!! Kawasaki Kid

good review! as a european it's strange for me to see you being held up by traffic at 08:06 - the point of a motorbike is to slide through traffic when it comes to a halt. it's such a shame that lane splitting is illegal and cops will chase you down if they see you doing it.... it takes away the whole point of riding on two wheels

That's the crazy part of road laws in America, we have to suffer together. They tried to vote this in Georgia at one point and it failed.

Definitely it's a great bike, but the parallel twin in this doesn't sound great, even with aftermarket exhaust. I like the single cylinder cbr300r sound I had with a quality exhaust, it sounded great. Of course the extra HP would be great.
