After having a deep, 11 year relationship with Tyra, my '06 ZX-10R, I rode every interesting bike except this one because, after making an appointment two weeks into the future to test ride one, the idiots at my local dealership didn't have it ready. That was the reason I still have a SDR today but I have always had that feeling that the ZX-14R was the 'one that got away'. Watching this video, I feel almost all of the things @DukeOfDC describes except he has wind protection, which prevents me feeling what I love, the speed, courtesy of the wind, and the weight, which I don't want because I love handling and fast changes of direction. 145nM of torque in a 220kg machine is no joke either. Possibly only the Rocket 3 does it better. The sound of a 180hp v-twin is something else too. It's like a V8 jet boat (KZbin it) and I will never get tired of listening to it through a full, titanium exhaust. How could you? When I test rode my SDR I took off from a set of lights, the front came up and I giggled like a child finding chocolate because I was in 2nd gear. Such a dirty bike in all of the right ways. Imagine a supermodel who was a dancing instructor with 20 years of experience in a high class brothel. Depite all of that, this, the Rocket 3, the supercharged Kwaka range and the Streetfighter are the only bikes I haven't ridden that are of any interest to me, as in 2024, when bikes are forced to meet emissions and are restrained by ever-tightening financial restrictions, most bikes have become less interesting. Maybe it's just me getting older but, subjectively, there seem to be less interesting bikes around these days and, for me at least, motorcylces were never about adhering to beige, but about bringing out the naughty boy inside me. To those of you who have read this far, I offer you this: whichever bike you choose, remember to buy the most ridiculous one you can afford. You will never be disappointed, anything else is a compromise and no-one wants to spend the only life you get knowing that.

Very poor review, you don't seem to have ridden a range of bikes. This is an icon. I have a 2015 and it is a pleasure to ride fast and slow. Comfortable and reliable.

I’ve a modified h2 with 280 whp and one of these with full system and some tweaks including a remap. (Around 206hp whp). This bike can feel faster because you can put the power down due to the length and weight. It’s one of the fastest road bikes. Still. Just such a shame euro legisations have killed it from 2020 over here in uk.

I think we all know what Kawasaki should have done with their KLR. Put this motor in it. Just baffles me why they didn't. They've got it in every other bike. Why not the KLR the one that makes the most sense?

I'm retired now and thinking of getting one for the country roads. By the way, the little rubber plug midway in the chain guard covers a hole to check the chain tension.

I had a new Vanderhall Carmel GTS and sold it, ask why. I liked the car itself but the wiring and interior are as cheap as you can get. I first lost my cruise control, then the coolant fan stopped working then the gas gauge stop working and it would get hot if I sat at a stop light very long. The seats didn't recline and it was almost impossible to put anything in the storage compartment. I know have a Canam Spyder. Tons better in my book.

I rode my 2013 on a 1400 mile, 4 state road trip. 2 and a half days, last day 12 hours in the saddle. Wasn't too bad, had to stretch, of course but could walk with no problems. Opened it up just once, went from 20 mph to way too fast in two heart beats. Fantastic bike! Shame it's discontinued.
