2020 Kawasaki Versys-X 300 Dyno

Horsepower and torque figures on Kawasaki’s lightweight adventure machine.
Lightweight motorcycles like the 2020 Kawasaki Versys-X 300 are approachable and highly enticing options to enter the adventure-touring segment. Sure, there are the faster and better-equipped options of flagship ADV models, but rider-friendly and budget-conscious machines like the Versys open up the segment to less-experienced riders without limiting the opportunity for adventure.
The Versys-X 300 is powered by the same 296cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, parallel-twin engine that was utilized in Kawasaki’s Ninja 300 supersport machine. In transition to the Versys platform, however, Kawasaki re-geared the powerplant to better tackle low-speed situations.
We ran the Versys-X 300 on our in-house Dynojet 250i dyno, measuring horsepower and torque figures. The Kawasaki produced a modest 32.33 hp at 11,370 rpm and 16.68 pound-feet of torque at 8,600 rpm, but with an admirably flat torque curve and linear power delivery.

Me too, had the klr and it was loafy and top heavy, whereas the 300x is willing to rev and handles like a sport bike (almost). The suspension doesn't offer as much travel, but you keep that in mind.

I like the aftermarket and community of the klr. But the base bike of the versys-x is better imo. I also think it matters how tall you are. Klr better for taller people

Had my friends 2020 300 Versys Dyna tuned, pushed out 39 horses, standard exhaust and standard factory tuned, 32 is a bit low

@Palms with and aftermarket exhaust and power commander (if one is available) expect maybe 3-4 hp more, the cylinder size is a bit small for massive power gains, I suggest playing the gearing (sprocket teeth) to achieve a better pull off torque on power.

Was the test done in 4th gear? Unless he started in 2nd so 5th? I thought 300’s had 6 gears?

4th or 5th gear would be peak power output most likely. 6th gear is for cruising down the highway at low rpm (high gear) so it really bogs down the motor and steals hp.

how high of RPM are you running in 6th gear at highway speeds of 65-70mph?

V-strom650 replaced my KLR. I haven't missed it. So much better on highways, backroads, 2up and even gravel. I don't ride single track. 7,200 miles in a year on the KLR. 30,000 miles in 3 years on the V-strom since. *one guys honest experience.
