@dadoleyna4 жыл бұрын
I hope I'm vertical at 83. You are my new hero. I can't speak for the newer models of the Vulcan S, but there are three 'quirks' my 2015 possesses you should be ready to deal with. 1) Other than 1st gear, the bike is unhappy below about 3500 rpm. 2) Rolling off a 5000 ish rpm pace but keeping her in gear will produce WAY more engine braking than typical V-twins, so a slow hand is more comfy. 3) This one is subjective, but the 7/8 inch handlebar taper at the ends leaves a throttle and left hand grip that are a bit narrow for my tastes. I gave my 2015 well over 2000 miles as a trial, but ended up getting a slip over grip to increase the grip size. (MC 401 from Grab On grips) Still, my new-to-me 2015 Vulcan S is hands down the favorite bike I've ridden. Tame and solid control at 4500 rpm, and downright quick if pressed over 6000 rpm.

It is worth mentioning that Vulcan S has a parallel-twin engine instead of a V-twin design, and therefore, it has very different control riding characteristics. When I go to very light throttle, it gets a slight vibration/shudder. Not really lugging motor and it will accelerate fine. The Vulcan S simply doesn’t like “light throttle “. It likes to be wound out and shifted around 5000 rpm. I wanted to shift at 2000 rpm and ride at 2500 to 3000 rpm and Vulcan S engine doesn’t like that (shudder and vibrate). I now shift at 4500 to 5000 rpm and cruise around 5000 rpm. It just takes some getting used to (for those who used to ride a V-twin bike).

I'm a competent learner rider and I usually use my wife's Honda Rebel for my lessons, but I was looking at buying my own bike so I test rode a Kawasaki Vulcan because I really liked the look. I rode round my suburb with the seller shadowing me on my wife's Rebel, and then we went on a larger road where the speed limit was 80kmh. At this speed in 6th gear the Vulcan did indeed have a very bad engine vibration/shudder!! So bad that it put me off buying the bike. This was an almost new Vulcan with only about 7000kms on the clock!! A few days later I rode my wife's Rebel at the same speed and gear, and it was like night and day!! I even got the Rebel up to 100kmh, and it felt smooth. The only trouble with the Rebel is that at 6'2" it's a bit small for me, so I'm now looking at perhaps a Benelli 502c?

That is not typical of the Vulcan S. Give it another go on a different bike.

I totally agree with Barrie on this review. I am also re-entering biking after a lay off of 33yrs, l’m now 63. I’m buying the bike without test riding it first, why would I do that some might ask, we’ll, my answer to that is, because of reviews like this one l don’t need to test. (that’s stupid l here you scream) We’ll, the professionalism involved in this review has confirmed what l had already researched yet propelled my enthusiasm to purchase. It truly felt like l was on the bike, so l’m sold. I pick up the bike next week & can’t wait to cruise. Been there done that speed thing on dirt & road but never cruised. So a very big thanks to the reviewer, you’ve helped create a sale for Kawasaki but that’s what it’s all about & l’m out of this world impressed.

Bought one 6 days ago. The dealership didn't even know THEY were supposed to change out the ergo-fit parts without charging me for it. Then they tried telling me the handlebars that came with the Vulcan S were the reduced reach. I measured them and knew the handlebars were mid-reach. I called Kawasaki and asked which handlebars the motorcycles was shipped with from the factory... I was told "mid-reach". I got a voicemail from a manager today asking me to call. I asked for all communications be done through e-mail. Let's see what happens. I hate dealerships

Great review and a great bike. Have had mine for a year and still get a buzz everytime I get on it. Great for relaxing Sunday cruises but also took it on a 750 mile tour last year (in between lockdowns) and it was faultless. Planning another post-lockdown tour around the South West for July/August. I bought this in preference to a Harley Davidson SuperLow 850 as pretty much every review comparing the Vulcan with this said the Vulcan was superior. They were right!

As a rider of sports bikes and super naked bikes, I think nowadays these bikes make a lot of sense. Comfortable, fast enough for our roads, less chance of losing your licence and now with fuel prices as they are, 60mpg is great. I'm really considering one. Also like the fact you can alter the pegs, especially as I'm 6ft 2

Its got a nice poke when you need it, the chest wind is a bit much but ive only rode it in march weather and thinking of getting a small widesheild to deflect it up a bit . Im using her every day for short rides and so far , shes not put a foot wrong. 42 miles per gallon , town riding ...over 174 miles . 64,2 miles per gallon on a 116 mile.. A road trip. . Youll need a padock stand for rear work .

I'm coming from the sportbike and track world and I'm considering this for my first cruiser. Not only because of the engine which is basically a carryover from the Ninja 650, but I'm pretty sure the forks and rear shock were carried over from the '09-'16 Ninja as well. Going by pictures they look exactly the same. And Ohlins makes a shock and fork cartridge kit for it. That would make this the ultimate cruiser for me. I'm looking at the Cafe version myself.

It's funny you mentioning the low seat as an advantage. I'm in the market for my first bike, but I'm also very tall (200cm, I think it's about 6''5') and I keep hearing Vulcan S is a good choice for tall riders because of its 'ergo fit' (the adjustable pegs you mentioned being part of the feature) while being a great beginner bike. I'm waiting for my local dealership to get it in stock so I can try for myself, but I'm really hoping the seat adjustability will be enough, cause I think I'm already in love with this bike.

Hmm.. In India, Service interval is 6000 KM ☹️ Here’re a few negatives after My 10000 Km of riding in India.. Its low ground clearance and a little soft suspension are quite a pain for me.. Seat looks plush, but my butt hurts after 2 hours of riding and I’m using air seat on long rides..Many others I know have replaced the seat with aftermarket ones.. Long wheelbase makes it difficult to take U turns.. Some of the parts are of plastic and quite delicate . They could have been of better quality. Exhaust note could have had more grunt.. Head lamp is still Halogen and not bright.. Vulcan has seen very little updates since its launch.. It’s time for some updates - eg., LED Head lamp.. In spite of the above drawbacks, I’m quite happy that I bought this one and I’m excited to take her on every ride even after 1.5 years!!

Seems a nice bike but pity it doesn't have belt drive - so much better than chain for this type of bike.
@dadoleyna4 жыл бұрын
For maintenance, I agree, but with chain the gear ratio and performance can be tuned a bit. The 46/15 sprockets can be altered to 15/43 or 16/46 for a lower rev rate and somewhat better mileage as well as a less jumpy throttle at low rpm, or the ratio can be lowered for more torque and acceleration. And, besides, if I'm going to lowest maintenance, I might choose a shaft drive. My old shadow (shaft) went 60k with nary an issue and I only sold it because the kids were taking up so much time I never rode.

@@markpulling12 that was my other option yes, the reason I'm more drawn to the vulcan is because after 2 years when it comes to being able to do unrestricted, I can just remove the restriction when you don't get that from a 500 because it offers the max power on A2 without need of restrictions.

Meriwether Vulcan s was my first bike 4 years ago. I upgraded to a Vulcan s last weekend just for antilock brakes. My original didn’t have them and I liked the excuse to buy one in a great color. Waiting for my ergo parts to be sent to the dealer and set up.

Nice vid. thanks. Wanted to get myself one , back in Feb' 2020 , but the dealer copped an attitude with me and a long-time customer, then told me ...... May or late April ..... Yamaha came in cheaper for payments, and initial price ..... So I bought a Bolt, ( 947 CC = 58 Cubic inch), Bigger engine = more HP and longer legs ... ( 5 speed vs 6 speed)= faster than the V-S, and the Yammy is air cooled....a bug filled rad isn't a worry now... nuff said ... Ciao

im 6'4 and 220 pounds, male, swimmer/rugby player build. I want to "start" biking, as just got my motorcycle license. I am 34. not sure about long trips, but potentially at some point. Might have my gf on the back. Hoping to have a bike that keeps its value well, as i hope to have it for many years (only want 1 bike maximum) with proper maintenance. I am looking for quiet, speed, safety, comfortable cruising. Trying to make a choice between Vulcan S (2020/2021) vs vulcan 900 custom (2020/2021)? any help would be appreciated. ps. west coast cruising (bc to ca), so lots of rain, and some sleet snow.

@@Myndi78 each to their own regarding colour options..I test ride both, meteor was too slow for me on highway and bit to old fashioned looking so bought the Matt black Vulcan which look menacing and unique, enjoy whatever bike you decide on 👍
@Myndi78 Жыл бұрын
@@ZXspectrum.. Yeah speed is not a huge factor for me, there are too many great winding roads in my country so I don't really do much highway anyways. Unfortunatly there are also very strict laws here regarding customization, wich is why the Vulcan has really appealed to me, it is just gorgeous right out of the box, and doesn't NEED upgrades like for example a Harley Davidson would. But it is also a more modern looking cruiser and I honestly prefer a more meaty oldschool style like the one Super Meteor has. And I am in love with the dark green paintscheme 😍 But like I said it was a close race, so lots of congratulations on your Vulcan it IS a wicked bike!

Got a question How does one determine where the preload rear shock should be set?
@markpulling123 жыл бұрын
It will tell you in the manual what the standard factory setting is say 4 out of 8 ...then you just go from there depending on how it feels to you ,,ie make it a softer or firmer ride or weather you want to carry a passenger or luggage ....I generally set it somewhere in the middle and just leave it there Regards mark

@@markpulling12 ~ Thanks! I saw a documentary about bike settings and the dude was going on about how poorly they were set and that most have it too stiff/soft for their riding style and don’t even know it.
