Say what you want about Hyundai/Kia. They are always the first ones to bring up to date technology to the affordable car market. They stay on top of all their cars in their lineup to make them fresh. Half of this tech isn’t even available in the lower level bmw,Mercedes, and Audi’s.

And I like the fact I bought a used 2015 Kia Soul EX with the nicer infotainment system and it didn't have Android Auto. About an hour later and in my driveway after transferring the updated software from the UVO site on to a USB stick i was in business and had updated GPS maps too... Didn't cost a dime or a trip to the dealer. Ford has done similar in the past but they usually require a new USB header for $50 or others like Mazda $70 for the dealership to do the upgrade.

I have a 2015 Kia Soul. I must say, I REALLY dig this 2020 model! Very cool that Kia has kept with the over-all look of the car, and despite what others say, I like the rear end look just as much as the rest of the car. Similar, but just enough change to keep it fresh! Once I get around to wanting to upgrade my 2015 model, which might be a while longer since it's such a fantastic car, I will be looking into this 3rd generation model!

I watched both this review and Alex-on-Autos and I do appreciate that Sofyan always shows us what the car can do. Alex is always a 'grown up'. I liked the last gen and this one is a nice evolution. Kia has done a good job giving it a fun vibe without going overboard. It's hard to imagine this as a subcompact. It looks so much more beefy than something like the Honda Fit. If a tree fell on my car tomorrow, this one might be on the shopping list.

That's why they changed over to the Kona shared set-up. They will most likely offer a *hybrid* AWD Kia Soul in 2022 - if not sooner. It will share a lot of the existing Nero specs for mechanicals, yet has been updated considerably to maintain a continual 50+ mpg

I prefer my second generation 2015 plus GDI model. I use it for my work car using it for Uber/Lyft. The car is amazing and built tough! I have owned many cars over 30 years of my life. And this car takes a beating and keeps coming back for more. I only use synthetic oil every 3 months. And I maintain the fluids each month. I somehow am not into this new look on the 2020 model. The thinner lights turn me off. And the panoramic sunroof no longer available is a bummer. But if these new models are built tough to last. You can't go wrong buying these cars for dependability! And that is very important when considering what car to buy!

As a 2015 Kia Soul! owner, I am happy I got the second generation as opposed to this third generation. I love my leather seats because they’re super easy to clean and feel very comfortable. I love my ventilated seats because I live in Southern California where eight months out of the year you really do need them if your body runs as warm as mine does. The panorama sunroof while it did take away some headroom definitely made the car feel a lot more premium than what I paid. The rear seats are also heated in the previous version. There is a power down option for the passenger side in the previous version. Overall, I feel that this new version kept the same price but stripped a lot of the features without really adding too much more than a facelift. Let’s see what happens with the next generation. If I were buying a Kia soul today though, I would be scouring the dealerships for the previous generation.

I also have a 2015 kia soul mine is an Exclaim with all but leather. I have had an oil problem uses too much and nobody knows where it goes, no leaks and doesn't smoke..... Couple of months ago took in for my 75000 mile service mentioned the oil issue...... they kept my car gave me a loner and KIA REPLACED MY ENGINE...... TOOK OVER A MONTH BUT FREE TO ME...... WAY TO STEP UP KIA!!!!!!!!!

Like a fungus it's growing on me. I didn't like the new Mustang (2015) and then again in 2018 with the latest restyle - seeing a car you thing is abhorrent in person sometimes helps. And when there are more on the road people typically warm up to them. I didn't like the styling of the 2nd Gen Souls either when they came out - now I have two of them ;-)

It's a subcompact so shouldn't expect that but for its size? The Soul has decent cargo capacity due to its box design. Also, most people who want a smaller urban runabout don't care about awd. I personally think Kia is on track here and if you want more space and awd? The Sportage and Sorento are on the menu.

Where the Soul really shines is its subcompact dimensions while maintaining stout performance and some cargo capacity. (Like I mentioned earlier). AWD is certainly a possibility but due to the size, it would not be as easy and would of course, raise the price. Just some thoughts. Some of us don't want something bigger than subcompact but also don't like the anemic, under-powered tin cans on the other side of the fence and don't want a 'hot hatch': Enter the Kia Soul.... ;)

As the original owner of a 2010 KIA Soul Sport, which was one of the first 5,000 imported to the U.S., I am a big fan of this model. 10 years and very few problems, all of which were fixed under warranty. This new one is funky. I miss the departure of the luxurious one in 2016 in Fathom Blue with the Umber package, but I understand why they got rid of it. Very low take rate. The sunroof thing will also be missed. I think KIA missed a great opportunity to make a 'Trailster' version with AWD. Since it's already on the Kona platform. But at $28,000 and all the functionality and technology, it's hard to beat. It has the interior volume of a small crossover, in a very usable space. My brothers are both over 6 feet tall and actually have headroom in the back seat of the Soul. You can fit a bicycle in the back with the front tire on. Safety is great for the class too.

The panoramic sunroof has been awesome until I got stone chipped and shattered in the middle of motor way (equivalent to the freeway in the US) last week. Also the large surface of the glass may not be safe over the course of time if you live in a place where it's 34C during the day and the temperature drops to 4C at night...

That's really not that big of a temperature swing H. I have two souls with the pano roof and one stays in my driveway (car park for those out your way). We sometimes see over 100F in the summer and well below zero F in the winter (we just had a spell of -23 F) - no issue with the roof on either auto. I do see that the glass would be expensive to replace if it does get broken. I have "comprehensive" insurance for things like that - I would need to spend about $50 to have it repaired if it ever does. Our family has had quite a few vehicles with these pano roofs - two Ford Flex's, a Ford Explorer, two Ford Edge's, and two of the 3 Kia Soul's - never an issue with any of them. Perhaps a bit of bad luck?

Oh and in a couple months the Soul will be 10. I had a 2010 Sport with the 5-speed manual in Titanium gray, spoiler and sun roof (about the only options you could get with that trim and it was $18,700 out the door. I took delivery in April of 2009. I believe other parts of the planet had had the Soul a little sooner. Was a great little car then and now - I have two - a 2018 Turbo and 2015 EX.

I like this new Soul overall.. I like the more traditional dashboard/instrument cluster.. One thing I don't like is the squinty headlights.. They look very strange/odd for some reason. I thought the previous version's large headlights looked much better.

Yes likes and dislikes will always be in respect to customers and their view points. It takes a bit more to be an analyst and a critic I'm afraid. I said all that to say this, ALL Kia souls are to be loved. A very consistent line. This 2020 version though is PERFECT. The only addition I would want for me is a 2 ltr turbocharged motor. For those of you who actually have raced or even have experienced multiple turbocharged engines knows that the a turbocharged 2 ltr is far more vibrant even if it's the same HP.

I believe I'll be keeping my 2018 Turbo. If they gave the 2020 IRS and kept the pano roof I may have considered an upgrade. Top trim (Turbo) (at least for 2018) didn't have cooled seats. My 2015 EX did but definitely not as much power as my '18 (2.0l NA vs. 1.6l Turbo). Kia has always been strange about it's options and what available equipment you could get per trim level. Nice to see that you finally can get paddle shift with the 1.6 turbo - that's missing on the 2018 with a DCT it would be fun. Oh well, I'm sure Kia will sell the heck out of these even if the prices go up for popular trim levels...

@@Chris-dy1cb There was a lot of rumors around the 3rd gen Soul having avail. AWD - these cars are popular up in Canada and probably would have been even more so. What is liked even more though is the seating height - older buyers don't have to sit up/in or sit down into the seats - the taller roof line also is nice for those drivers. Subarus have a bit higher seating height - that said, it would be interesting to see the two companies fight it out between a Forester and Soul with AWD. I like both brands but if tech is important my money is on the Kia - if the AWD system and ease of maintenance is more important I'd bet Subaru (Forester dropped the XT this past year so the NA motor is the only choice).

@@SirtubalotTX Well size isn't a good excuse. The Toyota Prius now has AWD, and thousands of owners and intenders have told Kia they want an AWD option. If Kia doesn't listen to their customers, that on them. The Sportage should have nothing to do with it. The HRV and several others in the class offer it.

Center mounted exhaust is for sports car, not for biking activity ppl in mind, for you can't install a bike hitch in the back, that is a turn-off for my taste, lack of vision in design its practical use, nice car but sad design in the rear end!

(for those looking to purchase) Don't assume a GT-Line will have all these features. I just bought a GT that doesn't have nearly the interior comforts as this one. Also missing on mine is LED lights. Basically mine just has the GT grill, wheels, red trim under doors, steering wheel, moon roof and fog lights (vs the S)

"Box-Back" or "Sedan Delivery" is the appropriate nickname...... the back end is a bit fugly and the exhaust placement is a little odd because if the car is running and you're loading something or sitting in the back the exhaust will blow on your shins or knees (down and away is the only way) the touch screen seems to work well with minimal lag. overall C+ IMO

I decided to beat oil thickness deniers. Why the factory calls for thin engine oil- for a higher miles per gallon on the window sticker, and so you need a new engine sooner. If you are worried about engine oil too thick, maybe for the variable valve timing, you can add some Marvels Mystery Oil to thin it more, and in the winter plug in a small space heater under the engine oil pan while it is parked for the coldest nights.

The Canadian Soul gets full leather seats and ventilated front seats, but we don’t get the 1.6T engine for some reason.

We also get heated rear seats and all but the bottom 2 trims get a sunroof and the full LED headlights and all driver assist tech on all the bottom trim. Basically the Canadian soul is way better equipped, we just need the 1.6T engine.

So they kinda cheaped out with this generation. No independent rear suspension or AWD upgrade like was expected, loses unique features like the pano sunroof and cooled seats, no update to the instrument cluster, the seat designs look worse, and the rear design is questionable...

I was thinking the same thing always loved the previous gen Soul and checked this one out at the Autoshow! Yikes! Feels much cheaper inside than the previous generation. No longer cute and quirky. It's hideous. 😓
