Well, I for one love my Kia Soul. I have a 2015 model, and sure, it's no sports car, but it was never meant to be. In city driving, which is what mine does 100% of the time, it is a fun, quick, responsive car, and does what it needs very well. Roomy. Fantastic turn radius. Maneuverable. Efficient. And most of all, FUN! And I think they look great too!

Very good and fair review. I bought a 2020 Soul for my wife. I picked the S model for exactly the reasons mentioned. More is not necessarily better on this car. I must add, although I have only had to change the oil, this car looks like a dream to maintain. Everything is easily accessible on this car.

I'm on my 2nd kia soul. That's all I drive these days. Cheap, economical, good on gas, and runs great with little maintenance involved. Just oil changes. I liked my 2013 better than my current 2016. My 2016 2.0L does use a quart of oil every 3,000 miles. I run full synthetic mobil one.

I just drove a 2020 Soul S from Hertz. It was great in urban driving, chain driven CVT seems less rubber bandish than the junk Nissan JATCO CVT..... and great MPG. Huge doors and glass area. Only problem was it was painted nuclear waste warning yellow. BRIGHT.

Great video. I just bought a 2019 Kia Soul! with the turbo used as a secondary car. I actually love it. My main ride is a diesel 2022 RAM 2500 and for me the parking, picking up kids, and buzzing around, I love it. It’s fast. But it’s basically my hail car and I don’t really care about it. You mentioned that the rear wheel wells are not “carpeted”....kudos...i find the fabric linings are just difficult to keep clean, drip melting snow and rain water on the garage floor for hours....why can manufacturers not sound deaden the wheel wells from the inside of the well?

Dude, wireless charging is awful regardless of where it is, this is not a function or a fault of the vehicle. Use a wired charger! Besides that and your obsession about the "piano black" plastic, your reviews are by far the best, I'm not even a car guy and I've watched several dozen of them already, keep up the great work! About the sound system...I don’t have a Kia Soul but I just bought a 2019 Kia Niro. If the Soul is anything like the Niro the door panels are super easy to remove and replace the speakers. Factory speakers, even in premium sound versions, are crappy paper speakers with tiny magnets. I recommend getting Infiniti speakers. They are very sensitive speakers great for a straight up factory replacement. I bought Pioneers for rear doors and regret it. They sound OK but the quality of the pioneers is just a notch above the factory paper speakers. I also had a Kicker Key amp installed that really made a huge difference. It’s a tiny $200 amp you can get at Best Buy that also has an automatic EQ that really improves over factory setup cause it drives more power and EQs for better sound. I also put some sound deadener in the doors while I was at it. Although the Niro didn’t really need it since it’s already pretty quiet as far as the doors go.

The audio systems are not set up the same way. Almost all of this has to do with the software calibration. And the way they did the subwoofer and bass.

savagegeese I assure you the problem with the Soul speakers is not unique. It’s the same problem with most stock speakers. They are made out of paper and have tiny magnets and are just garbage cheap. So my post suggest that if the door panels on the Soul are similar to the Niro, then they are physically easy to remove and thus the crap OEM speakers are easy to replace. That muddy/overpowering and unbalanced bass referenced in the video is the same exact problem I experienced with the Niro stock setup. It just sounded like muddy hot garbage. Most people are clueless and would love it but I certainly know how crap it sounded.

Test drove the Turbo GT Line many times and felt the same way. Kia has not figures out how to do proper 4 cylinder turbo with front wheel drive. You can see why they kept the V6 on their more expensive models. The Stinger is an exception due to its rear biased AWD design, but their fuel economy is still not competitive against the Germans.

Best way to buy these is base model 6 speed manual discounted heavily. End of year sale. Easily $14k or less. I decided to just buy a 2015 Scion XB last March,1 year anniversary now and no regrets. The only thing I liked about the Kia was its brand new, and rear C pillar visibility was better. Theres no engine rattles or cheapness like the Kias., well.. not as much, its still a lower end car so sound insulation isn't the greatest I was so close to buying that 19 Soul, glad I did not. My Scion has 32k, was even less money at 11k, and it will simply last longer with better Resale (if I ever consider selling short of 350k 20 years from now). A proven 2.4 liter Camry mill gives good peppy power and will be cheap to keep up. Kia has an attractive warranty, but those go away. If yoi are going to drop 15 grand or more, go buy a Corolla.

I'd love to see a review on the Hyundai Elantra GT N-Line. It uses the same 1.6T and 7spd DCT from the Soul, but you get a "tuned" suspension, faster steering ratio, stiffer engine mounts, and a multi-link rear. I recently bought one, and I'm absolutely loving it. It would be interesting to hear your opinion on the car. I love your reviews! So honest and unbiased. Thanks!

The last gen Soul is one of the few rentals I returned the same day. I had an Optima Turbo that just had ridiculous torque steer and no feel. My Fanatec wheel feels way more realistic. H/K needs to spread that Veloster N love around all its high power FWD offerings.

We make a lot of money replacing engines in Kia at the dealership. Some are under warranty, but most squeeze by the 10/100K warranty. My advice is to figure out a way to get 1 engine before the warranty runs out.

I HATE "piano black" gloss plastic. Worse thing to use for consumer products. I even hated it on my original PS3. Impossible to keep clean and it always scratches like crazy. At least they nailed the main screen. I definitely can't see buying this in a higher trim level. It's meant to be an economy zip around car that can do a little bit of everything. Spending a ton to get a lot of almost tech and gimmicks is the wrong choice. Yes manual parking brake! Shame that GT engine and trans combo isn't great. Maybe in a few years it will be a more appealing all around package. I still like the Soul for what it is overall though. Plucky little box.

Pretty much all auto journalists, and mere mortals like me, hate piano gloss plastics. I wonder when auto makers will wake up to this fact. It's the same story with the volume knob. Honda realized it made a mistake by removing it, and then brought it back. I'd rather have a good quality fake carbon fiber sticker.

I’m so curious who is actually in the demographic buying weird looking FWD Korean cars with potent little turbo 4s? I mean they went all in on the Veloster with the N and now they’re released this turbo Soul so they must be selling these things (I don’t mean just Velosters and Souls but the TURBO versions), but who on earth are the people buying them? Enthusiasts will consider an N but not a regular Veloster Turbo or any trim Soul. Old people undoubtedly buy these cars in base trim. Females get them because they’re cute but surely a large percentage of those purchases are non-turbos. Is there some group of KDM tuner bros out there that we don’t know about?

Thanks for your video ! My Mrs 2017 Kia Cerato S just won't let android auto work, we plugged it into bot our phones and everything, had the app installed and accepted all permissions and I played around with it for hours and just wouldn't work. But I do love how the GPS shows the street numbers as your driving past the houses. And the fact you can play videos on the cars touch screen and the sound comes perfectly through the speakers! I hate the fuel economy tho.. 2.0L means it drinks a lot of fuel IMO, coming from the life of a Fiesta ST anyway 🤣 Oh yea.. start/stop.. fk that shit, the Mazda's have that and they always stop when you least want them to stop. And you lose that 1 or 2 seconds that you needed most to take off. Just a stupid rubbish gimmick and I would never buy a car with it. Or I will be smashing the thing with a sledge hammer till it's permanently disabled 😅😅😅😅

@Keith Rogers To be fair, Mazda's torsion beam is more elaborate. I drove the new Mazda 3 for two weeks and you wouldn't know it was torsion beam unless someone told you already. Also, you at least get a way nicer interior and the option for AWD. The torsion beam in this Kia Soul is cheap just to be cheap.(which is okay, and even most Kia Soul buyers won't know or care.)

pete smyth I don’t think he is trolling, it’s not a black & white decision when it comes to torsion beam and multi-link. I personally would liked to see two versions of this vehicle, one with a multi-link for poor road conditions and one with Mazda’s proprietary torsion beam for the asian market.
