A friend of mine was killed when he hit a tree in his Chevy. The engine came thru the fire wall. My dentist had the engine go thru his bmw firewall and scalded him. Love my outback. First off: I think the Telluride is a fantastic SUV and Kia is really upping its game on all fronts. That said, I own an Ascent (because maybe I am conservative and have owned other Subarus in the past?) and must say that the CVT on the Ascent is fantastic. I come from a 5th generation Outback so have been exposed to different Subaru CVTs. The CVT on the Ascent doesn't feel like one. It feels solid and responsive and manages the engine's power very well.

Now have a '29 Ascent. LOVE IT. In an accident or 10 years from now, the Subaru will be going strong. We've have 15 in our family in the last 43+ years. Hit 2 deer with my '14 OB. Still got 28MPG in a four hr drive, tracked straight as an arrow with no front end left. ZERO other repairs. Tires, brakes, batteries and wipers. PERIOD. In 43+ years. Of the 5 with CVT's, ZERO repairs in 11 years. AWD is not an accessory with Subaru. Zero waste factory in Indiana. They've PROVEN their safety for many years. One REALLY bad accident - not a scratch. Car totaled. All doors opened and closed perfectly. Our 2001 Outback is still on the road with over 300K miles.

1 year later, but wanted to piggyback off that. We have a 2004 Subaru WRX Wagon. Now has 235k miles. The 1 and only thing that ever truly broke was the radiator at 192k miles (sat outside in sub freezing weather for several days without being turned on). That's it. Everything else was regular maintenance. Replaced the original clutch at 230k miles and it has always driven like new. I also drive it hard, every single mile, it loves it. Not a single one of any of my previous or current vehicles (none of which are subaru), can come anywhere even close to the reliability of our WRX (I'll never sell it!).

So many CVT haters. If its about the sound or the feel/pickup - well I might agree with you.... to a point. However as a owner of a Forester for 16 years and now Legacy for 5 years I have had no issues with the reliability. They last and they hold their value better than most other brands. The reviewer says that the turbo CVT no longer "feels" like a CVT... and thats a great thing. I will still compare both the Ascent and the Telluride when we go looking to replace our old Honda Pilot. Also the forester and outback and even RAV 4 will be on our shopping list.

Telluride's AWD version is an afterthought, meaning it's basically added to the FWD platform. Subaru's are built from the ground up and all SUV trim levels are AWD. Would love to see side by side comparison of AWD performance on a slippery incline.......I betcha I know which SUV would prevail!
@mfp10164 жыл бұрын

I love the Telluride but i would be more compelled to buy the Ascent. It is a safer car, it has a better AWD, will keep its value better, has a better MPG, and it comes in at a cheaper price even at the top trim. I would have to wait a few years to see how the Kia holds up. The Stinger looks great but can't hold its value. Starting at 50K+new for the top trim you can get a 2 year old model for 30k. I can't help but wonder if i will be able to purchase a 2019 Telluride in 2021 for 20k less than what it costs now. That and lets see if it spends more time in the shop than on the road. Either way never buy a year one model car, you never know what will go wrong with it. At least with the subaru its based on all the other subarus out there.

Subaru, according, to Autoguide, has a car on the top ten most expensive to maintain list over a 10 year period. The list is available and the video explaining the numbers is here on you tube. The figures are DOT required and taken from Subaru's own reporting. The high cost of CVT and Head casket replacement has skewed the numbers for the Forester to cause it to end up on the list. There are no Kias or even Fiats on this list. The frequency of repair may be less but the overall cost is higher.

I've never been impressed enough to actually own a Subaru, mainly because of the boring interiors and technology that is 3-6 years behind the times. But now that they have added CVT just about everywhere, they are even less impressive. If you go down the line on just about every vehicle they make most professional reviews make mention of either CVT or lack or performance in the typical pros/cons list at the top of a review. I live in snow belt, so I WANT to like Subaru. But they are not even close. When I test drove the Ascent top of the line, I couldn't imagine living with that car, even for just a three year lease. And I'm not even the primary driver of the family car. When we test drove the Telluride it punched far above its weight class. I've owned BMW, Mercedes, Acura, Lexus and driven many other premium vehicles like Audi, Cadillac, Lincoln, Volvo. The Telluride had a lot of premium characteristics that reminded me of premium vehicles I've owned or rented. The Subaru just felt like a fat smaller Subaru with an IDIOTIC brown interior. There was no 'special' quality to it. And the CVT sucked of course.

Ascent is selling way better than Telluride even though Telluride tops in on every list. I live in Portland, OR and see one Telluride for every ten Ascents. 7500 and 8200 Ascents sold in Nov and Dec vs 6800 and 6400 for the Telluride. The people have spoken and they choose the Ascent. Many people don't trust Kias, don't think they're cool and are worried about resale. The differences between these cars are largely subjective, so it is funny when people say the Telluride is clearly the better looking car. I personally don't like the headlights or tail lights on the Telluride, I feel like they look cheesy and unrefined. Also, the cars have essentially the same exterior dimensions, so to say that one car is massive compared to the next is a joke. I have parked next to a Telluride with my Ascent and they are about the same size (they are same length). Suby is taller. The Suby would also school the Telluride at altitude with the turbo vs naturally aspirated engine.

i think this is an Oregon "thing" - you guys have that reputation.. I think of Subarus when I think about Portland Or. In Southern Ontario, there are lots of Subs on the road but the Telly is outselling the Ascent here the past 2 years... I own an Outback and I would but the Ascent over the Kia.. I also own a Kia that was just recently involved in a nasty collision with a deer... may have to replace it now - I am leaning toward the ascent

Why are you a hater? Do research and you will find most, if not all manufacturers have issues.
I like the Telluride. Do not get me wrong. It is just not the same segment. The ascent should go with something like KIA Sorento.

the kia won on this comparison. spacious, value, technology, and the style. in terms of AWD i think they are almost even. i still favor Subaru. but the AWD of kia can will gets better. Subaru is just doing conservative approach as they fail to please the consumers from their previous tribeca.
@nickloswhitmire82925 жыл бұрын
Ascent easily better interior with a long nicer Panoramic moonroof. It is all one large part, instead of a stupid 2 part moonroof in the Telluride. I think the newly redesigned Highlander will be nicer also than the Telluride. Ugly infotainment system in the Telluride.

The Ascent its a better and safer vehicle, with more reliability , at the end that’s what it matters . // But Kia Telluride design 🔥🔥🔥 Ufff , looks like a Land Rover to me 😍 . // Subaru should put more passion in the Ascent and Forester Design 🧐

I love my Subaru ! That said, don’t buy one! Total lemons, read the recall reviews. I will be unloading mine this summer and buying something that has the support of the manufacturer, Subaru has proven themselves to be worthless when dealing with addressing their cars malfunctions. I will miss my Subaru, I need a vehicle that I can depend on and that will not start costing me money down the road! Let’s not forget, subaru is a vehicle that is known to cost more to service.

I had a 13 Outback and was about to replace the CVT for the second time at 100k miles when I dumped it. Loved the car but those transmissions are terrible. My sister bought an Ascent and replaced the CVT at 20k miles. Wish they were more reliable because they are great vehicles otherwise.

This is a all new vehicle and there is no data suggesting it will be more or less reliable than it's competition. Subaru has a much better and much longer record of producing quality vehicles. They also have significantly higher retained value...

Do your homework before you post, Subaru Ascent is more larger, and taller, than the telluride/Palisade which is good for the head and legroom, and speaking of that, Subaru ascent has more 1st and 3rd row legroom, than the telluride/Palisade, yes they did sacrifice a little room from the 2nd row, but that was a good idea, bcuz even full size adults could fit there. Also, has better fuel economy, and way better reliability, Subaru is ranked the most reliable car brand in 2019,(1st place) while kia came in 12th place and hyundai at 10th place. www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2019/02/21/consumer-reports-best-cars-2019-subaru-toyota-dominate-top-picks/2936504002/ heres some proof. Oh yea, the subaru ascent has also better headroom, and just space in general! Proof: www.autoblog.com/2019/02/08/2020-kia-telluride-comparison/ Just listing facts! ✌ Changes 2020 Subaru Ascent: Power folding Mirrors, Tailgate Lock Function, Rear seat reminder safety feature and lastly, one touch illumination control. 4 new changes and more standard features. Your welcome!

KIA looks a lot nicer in the dash (and for some people on the outside) but you can see how they cut corners in the interior and just the overall cheapness is unwanting. Subaru is a much much batter car.

The Ascent will struggle to get 19 mpg and I don't think the CVT will be around and working past 100,000 miles. If you push it hard out on the interstate the MPGs will plummet.

I have and always will be a Subaru owner, have never had any major problems with them, excluding preventative maintenance. They all have had 300k Plus miles on them and my family still owns most of them. the ones that get handed down. Subarus are also known for their reliability, comfortability, safety, and legendary drivetrain system. What are Kia's known for?

The Telluride tops out more expensive than the Ascent because it has way more features.. if u opt for a lower trim which would be more comparable to the Subaru then the Telluride would be the same if not cheaper plus that's not including the longer warranty which if the opt in the Ascent is going to cost u..
