That’s a very vulnerable place for a plastic fitting. If I get a new bike I’ll change that before the first ride. Thanks for another great video!

I have been looking at buying a newer bike (leaning towards BETA). This is exactly the sort of thing one likes to know about! Thanks for the post.

One thing to consider is that Plastic failure could lead to a fire.. Considering that aluminum is the way to go.. Plastic would shift a bit too when it's cold .. The fitting is very close to the engine so I am thinking it does not get that cold after 15 minutes.. Are they made in China now ?

the newer the motorcycle, the worse it is made half of the parts need to be replaced after purchase for what purpose does the manufacturer exchange good aluminum for plastic

I have a 2019 exc 300 TPI here in Australia (with the alloy outlet). About 12mths ago I had a very similar experience where the fuel hose connector where the inline fuel filter goes (obscurely call the ' CLUTCH CPC BLACK 05' in KTM parts diag) broke off the plastic nipple. The result was, somewhat predictably, the same as in no more riding for me for the day. At this point the bike was almost new had less that 15hours on it and it was not cold at all being the end of an australian summer. I have no explanation as why this happened, though we were pushing through some scrub but nothing particularly dense but it was really annoying. I wonder if there is some inherent weakness around here? Like you, I now have about 140 various sized ear clamps and newly acquired ear clamp tool (that i suspect, ill never need again). Anyways, for what its worth.

Stu54 - I’ve heard of a few other people had the stock plastic disconnect fail. Metal quick disconnects are available and worth fitting IMO. I’ll make another video covering this once I’ve sourced metal connectors

BTW 15.7mm strapless ear clamps can be purchased individually from KTM dealers. I put the KTM part number in the video description

@@TokyoOffroad Thanks Mark, I did buy one of the KTM ear clamps along with the new KTM connector (about A$100! for both), but it did highlight for me that there are quite a number of those style of clamps on the bike, and I had neither the clamps or the right tool for closing them, (and neither did any of my numerous KTM riding buddies) and I really like to have the right tool in my hand when I need it, if you know what I mean. A metal quick connect may well be worth looking into, thanks for both this tip and your videos in general, love the mix of maintenance, reviews and ride days, thanks again.

My 2020 300xc tpi I replaced plastic fuel tape w aluminum aftermarket ( slavens) about a year ago...from day one it leaked from top o ring where it meets tanks ...tighten it down even more problem solved...or so I thought...ff a yr later started bike yesterday to ride ..was dumping fuel same spot !! Finally got it stopped but it seems super sketchy...I had to tighten it supertight...like the slightest bump from dropping bike is going to start leaking again!! Figured I'd start by replacing the 2 oem O rings....looked at all oem parts and I can't find anything ....no fuel tap...no o rings! Any suggestions where to order.? Or any thoughts on this leak ?? My nearest ktm dealership is hr drive one way so online is usually easier for me ...thanks

Its really disappointing decision from KTM to make swap from Alu to plastic material. This aluminum part is on ktm for 10 years or so and they change it now for worst :( .

That aluminum piece is machined. It's probably 4 times the cost of the molded plastic piece. I don't think it's about weight savings.

Cheap ass KTM making bikes cheaper in the guise of making them lighter. I'm surprised they don't sell the metal one as a KTM Power Part in orange

Same deal with 2020 4 stroke?
@TokyoOffroad5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the 2020 4-strokes also use a plastic connection. The part number is not the same as the TPI though so I don't know if they can break as easily.

Bloody typical Low quality KTM/Huskys parts .. it's a 2020 model and already this is happening .. thank goodness I ditched the orange colored lemons after countless glitches that should not be happening on late model bikes .. KTM should hang there head in shame with there never ending series of glitches that raise there head on every model it seems .. its a real shame cos they could be a true premium brand if the parts quality was top notch through out the entire bike .. it feels like the bike is designed in Europe .. made in china
