I'm looking at a solution for my spare wheel and this looks up there...presently have a bike rack on top with steps on the side...its just too much hassle and stress getting my mountain bike up and down...so appreciate the video (I'm 6ft 6 and wouldn't recommend a standard bike rack in top...ever!)

For my 2020 Defender install w/stock rims, I can't seem to get over the fact that the adapter plate is off center just enough that I can't slide the bracket in. If I try, I will scratch up the inside of the wheel center. Anybody else run into this? Its a brand new Thule Spare Me 2 rack.

Hey! What do you do with the attached safety strap when you're not using the rack? Does driving it everyday with it rolled up and an elastic around the roll work?

Sorry for the late reply... Unfortunately you have to remove the spare tire to get the bracket installed properly.

Hey there. Do you have any recommendations for a trailer hitch based 2-3 bike carrier? I'm hoping to keep the tire covers on.

Thule, Yakima, & Inno both make fantastic systems for trailer hitch bike carriers... I would recommend any of those. With the Defender though, you'll need to purchase a trailer hitch extender, either a 7" or 8", so that the post can clear the spare tire. It will add over a foot to the car's length though, so bear that in mind.

worth noting that when I contacted Thule about a compatible bike rack for my vehicle which is the same as yours, they said none of theirs will work. Do you have any issues with the unit creeping/rotating to the left or right from the weight of the bike after perhaps a bumpier ride?

Yes on the website it says this bike rack is not suitable for new Defender, I emailed the to ask why? It looks like it works well. Do you think the rear door is not rated strong enough?

Thanks for the video! I just put my rack on today!! I have a silly question..I cannot get the arms to fold. I unscrewed the knobs as instructed in the manual but the arms will not move. Is there a trick to it not in the manual?

What I do is after I unscrew them, I push them in, as the attaching bolts are "squared". This allows me to move the arms back down... Sorry for the late reply!

yeah this is what I was wondering too (certainly *somewhere* this spec is published). I use to have a Nissan Pathfinder years ago with a swinging tire rack mount and I wasn't comfortable putting too much weight on it for bikes etc. this is one of the reasons I went with an LR Discovery w/tow hitch instead of getting the new Defender.

I’m guessing that strap loops around your downtube(s) to keep the bikes from "flying" (not off, but bending outwards and upwards). I have a Thule carrier and wondered why they included the strap. First time I hooked it up to the back of my car w/o the strap and started driving on the freeway, I saw why I needed it. How you enjoying the Defender? I was out pricing one yesterday after my bike ride.

Thanks for your comment! The Defender is great... There are a few "glitches", but mostly infotainment software related. Car drives really well!

It does drive real nice,,,was thinking about trading my Grand Cherokee Trailhawk for this...little bigger inside. Sits up high....burly. Good look .... Cheers

I have not at this point, just my road bike... I know there are some Wrangler owners who use this for their MTB's and have had no issues!

Couldn’t get this mounted to my defender. I have the 19 inch wheels maybe that’s why. The lug nuts just wouldn’t catch sadly :(

@@baklava3030 Which lugnuts? You should be able to mount this directly behind the whole wheel with the bracket going through the hub of the rim... Don't mount this with the lug nuts...

@@sphcars337 The lug nuts for the spare tire. I put the mount exactly as you placed it, put the tired back onto the car but the lugnuts wouldn't screw back in with the mount behind the spare tire. I took the mount off, and put the tire back, lug nuts screwed back in with no issues. Unlucky for me
