We review the new 2020 Lincoln Aviator Explorer to discuss the major changes. In the video, we will cover all the good and bad things about the new truck and why buyers would buy this or stay away. This next-generation SUV is built on Ford's new RWD platform and they hope it will become wildly popular. With other products like the Kia Telluride, BMW X7, Audi Q7, Chevy Tahoe, and Volvo XC90 close in price the choice for a 3-row luxury SUV is difficult.

We've had ours for a few months and we're still very impressed. It's right there with the Germans in pretty much every way that matters for this kind of car but I like that they went for traditional luxury instead of trying to copy the performance/luxury that others are doing. Going for "sporty" makes no sense to me in a giant SUV. It has good power, but it's not trying to be something it's not.

Working as a mechanic in Germany, I am disappointed with the German cars quality recently, we get cars with major engine damage anywhere starting 45,000 . They drive good, but I wouldn't depened on them at all.
@hamsterama
@hamsterama 4 жыл бұрын
@@st_us Yep, that's why will never buy a German car, unless things change. Too many major things break. Also, here in the US, usually a regular mechanic (one that works on American and Asian cars) won't work on BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Porsche, etc. If you don't want to go to the dealership, you have to go to an independent mechanic that specializes in German cars. Dealership or independent specialist, neither one is cheap. Yes, German cars look nice and drive nice. But they cost so much in repairs and maintenance.

hamsterama First of all, most Americans aren’t very reliable either these days, especially Ford/Lincoln, the only truly reliable brand is Lexus, who frankly are making mediocre cars these days. Secondly, Germans cars need specialized mechanics because they are a lot more advanced engineering wise.

The Grand Touring has a lot of transmission refinement issues, and the extra weight means its straight-line power:weight is about the same while it handles worse due to the extra weight. He did the Aviator better justice by reviewing a petrol-only version.

@@ZACH_95_ not necessarily. The Alumaduties aren't too much lighter than Chevy and Ram. And and the F150 is vastly larger than a Aviator, with a substantially beefier frame, heavier suspension components, etc. The 5800 pounds for a midsize SUV is inexcusable, particularly when the hybrid system doesn't produce significant performance or fuel cost savings.

Awesome vehicle. I just purchased a 2021 Aviator Reserve (best bang for buck level IMHO) It rides like a dream. Just to put the speed and engine -400 Hp in perspective, I owned a 2005 BMW M3 that went 0-60 in 4.8. This luxury SUV ran a test time of 0-60 5.4-5.2 regularly. Crazy how much faster everything on the road has become. I mean, I also owned a 1981 Corvette with 210 hp that would be like a snail now. All things being equal!

And for them this detail is undetailed, as they already covered some of the vehicle architecture in their Explorer review. I like that they don't feel the need to mention everything, just the ones that matter for that vehicle. So we get no 0-60 times, discussion of brakes, or detailed lists of what the infotainment system is capable of. Instead, they cover stuff that distinguishes this Lincoln: seating, styling, drivetrain smoothness, space for people and their stuff.

If you scoot the middle row up and split the difference, then I have no problems sitting in the 3rd row. However, in any SUV this size, a third row is not meant to be spacious
@mybro727
@mybro727 4 жыл бұрын
Mark Miller Third rows definitely need to be comfortable for adults. If all you haul around are a bunch of small kids then a minivan might be a smarter choice for you. If you’re an executive with other adult executive friends or an older person that want a sporty and luxurious ride you’re going to opt for a SUV. These kinda folks will see more adults climbing into their third-row than small children. Also, kids grow up. So if you have kids that aren’t small anymore (teenagers) then you definitely want an SUV with an adult friendly third-row for them to be comfortable. Many kids in America, typically high schoolers, are actually larger than their parents who ride in the front seat. Manufacturers are expected to consider all households and scenarios if they want to be a top contender and that’s where Ford/Lincoln kinda dropped the ball in that crucial category. It’s marketed as a smaller Navigator but the third-row space comparison is nearly night and day.

Marks father heard the Lincoln aviator roll up to the nursing home and he double front flipped out of his wheel chair, landing straight in the cockpit of the 2020 aviator. Miracles do happen, god bless

Good vehicle to be sure. Made it to our final two choices. In the end after driving the Aviator and X7 back 2 back 3 times we went with the X7. Both dealers offered us $20K off MSRP so $63K before TTT. They both have TT V6’s, both get surprisingly good gas mileage while delivering 5.4 second 0-60. In the end the X7 just feels better put together, is vault quiet and handling is way more composed.

@@seachickens4u Based on the recent reports it looks like we dodged a bullet. The Lincoln Aviator made the top 5 worsts vehicles to buy 2020-2023. And the crazy part for us, the local BMW dealer offered us $67K for our X7 now with 28K miles on it.

Fantastic review. Great camera work and attention to detail of all aspects of the Aviator. I love seeing the underbody of the car along with the engineering aspects that went into it. Cadillac really needs to step up their game which they are with upcoming Escalade which looks even better and is loaded with more innovative tech than the Lincolns. What would keep me from buying the Aviator is the unimpressive back seats and lame chrome interior trim pieces that should have been metal. Also build quality as you pointed out in some of the interior. Kudos though to Lincoln for making such a beautiful car exterior and interior. Finally Lincoln is building world class innovative products.

Bought a black label version in black this past Dec. Was a great purchase- we love it. It has been into the shop twice- once to fix the third row not folding (module update) and once to update software to enable phone as a key. We cannot wait for a long road trip. It is awesome.

3 years later how was your experience with the Aviator? Was it in one shop a lot? Anything major? Would your recommend?

@@funplaymix7710 Great question. I would not re-buy. It was in the shop A LOT and the local ford dealer that services it (largest on the east coast) is HORRIBLE. Escalations to Lincoln did not help. We had it in the shop at least 4 times for the camera problems, they finally have a recall that SHOULD address it but I no longer trust anything they say. There are some bugs that can never be addressed or re-produced. A very annoying one is it will lose seat programing to the key, and randomly WHILE DRIVING move your seat. Usually on reverse out of the garage. In addition if you plug in a phone before the screen is fully booted it will black screen, the list goes on and on. I would skip it.

my dad got one and damn is it gorgeous - he got the option with massage chairs. i drove it and it was incredible, but my ONLY gripe is that I prefer a traditional gear shift to the buttons in an automatic. A lot of cars are doing this now, so I might just have to get used to it, but for now my 2019 mazda 3 is perfect for me at my budget.

I'm still trying to figure out why you sounded like you were masking half sarcastic hatred for the entire interior overview. That said, I'm surprised and impressed. Really cool they were able to iron out so many of the bugs with the Explorer. This bodes well for the future of this platform at least. Big hopes for the Bronco too then. I figured with some time to smooth out the platform it would be much better.

Hi, thanks for your videos, very informative. Do you think the ST version of the Explorer would iron out the flaws you found in the base/platinum explorer? Ford markets the ST as a separate division - which I am hoping like Lincoln, would have ironed out the overall experience

Mark you need to review the 2020 Explorer ST which shares the same engine as the Aviator. It might answer address some of the issues you had with the 2020 Explorer you reviewed earlier.
