The Mitsubishi Outlander compact crossover is sold with standard Supper All Wheel Control and room for 7-passengers over three rows of seats. These features and the fact that Mitsubishi offers a 10-year warranty has helped to move sales dramatically, even in the face of COVID. The Outlander compact utility is sold with either a 2.4l 4-cylinder with 166hp or a V6 and 224hp. Both use a CVT to put the power to all four wheels. The V6 version can tow up to 3500lbs.

I owned one of the first Outlanders sold in Calgary back in 2004 the dealership was still being set up. We owned it for 14 years and never once had to repair anything. It was a compact SUV before many others even had heard of them. That car took our family thru blizzards from Alberta to Prince George thru the ice field parkway, deep unplowed snow roads it was a tank with winter tires. A little lacking in power but man my wife was devastated when we sold it to a young kid in town. The dealership Platinum in Calgary experience was great too, total bargain for the money!!!!

I recently got a 04 outlander with the 4g69 2.4 timing belt motor. The thing has 180k miles on the odometer and it still runs like a clock. All of the interior electronics still work including the heated seats and the sunroof. The leather held up really well.

As an owner of a 2016 Outlander GT, a few comments for prospective buyers: the Outlander is made in Japan, this is a vehicle to consider if you plan on keeping it for a long time since resale is quite low, reliability of my 2016 has been fantastic (so far!) , go for the V6 if you can since it has a traditional 6 speed auto instead of the dreaded CVT and the engine note is much more pleasing (its an older SOHC design so it sounds ALMOST like an older truck engine instead of a sewing machine like many modern engines), this review is spot-on about the third row since its a 'in a pinch for the kids' nice option to have if you don't plan on using it regularly, don't pay sticker price, main two competitors for this vehicle are the dodge Journey and Volkswagen Tiguan, if you want value and don't care about prestige this may be a good choice for you. I don't regret my decision to buy one. ☺

Even though I don't trust JD power for a moment, I have a theory. Since the dodge lineup is filled with old designs with limited technology, they've largely worked out many of the bugs. Long term reliability of a Dodge is nowhere near most other brands but look at their lineup: charger, challenger, durango, grand caravan, journey. All of those are about a decade old and have limited driver assistance and safety tech. No hybrids. No electrification. Not surprising that owners have no issues in the first 90 days...

Your new camera works fantastically! There's the silver lining, I suppose. Keep up the great work, Zack -- wishing you and your family all the best! I think, though, related to the video, that I would choose one of the Rav-4 variants over this vehicle if I were in the market for a vehicle in this class as I think the Toyota product is the superior one. I don't know if Mitsubishi's reputation is favorable in Canada or not, but in the US it's quite terrible and the marque is struggling to keep itself afloat much like Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Nissan and Infiniti here. Hopefully things will change for all aforementioned brands, but Fiat/Nissan/Infiniti really need to produce desirable product if they want to remain competitive not only in North America, but also globally. Anyway, enough tangents! Stay safe and keep doing what you do best!

The cvt gearbox never knows what gear ratio it wants, the cruise control can't really manage the engine and it will cut out. It's not a fast car, it's not a powerful car, hell it's not even economical. It's off road capability is okay but def not capable. I really dislike this vehicle for the little things. The ride is nice but it’s seems not well thought out. I have this vehicle in the SEL model as a corporate vehicle. I have driven it for 5 months and it’s all the little things that suck about it. There is no front storage inside, minimal. The piano black is horrible and scratches easily. The tailgate fails to open on numerous occasions, to unlock the back doors when entering and exiting the vehicle is very frustrating. Anything that has to do with entering or locking the car through doors or tailgate is just horrible. There is an auto tailgate disable button. I finally chose to disable the auto tailgate because sometimes it just didn’t work or is extremely slow to open. I received this vehicle with essentially no miles in it so it was new. Evaluate these things before buying it or you may be forever frustrated.

JD Power is a marketing firm. The more money you pay them, the better ratings they will give you. This alone is proof that channels like this are nothing more than fluff pieces for the auto industry. Those of you that lease a new car every 4-5 years don't care how long a vehicle will last, but those of us who plan on making a vehicle last a long as possible care.
@Motormouth...

Not True. JD Power sells the research to car companies after the fact, not before. They don't pay to influence the ratings, they pay to access the information collected and to use the awards in advertising. They pay for the data and every company pays to get access. It is accurate and is why they want and are willing to pay for the data. I've done dozens of interviews with David Sargent about this. If you have proof that the more you pay, the higher you go, send it along. I'll wait...

@@Motormouth... I get it. Unfortunately, I know more about automobiles than you. You extrapolated an analogy incorrectly, that I was comparing a 30 year old vehicle to one from the last year. I thought I made it clear that my statement was analogous to Mitsubishi's reliability and cheap cost cutting parts. (I am currently driving almost this exact same model as a rental for 2 weeks. Hence clicking on this boring video......shows you the level of my entertainment currently.) Speakiing of horrible reliability, stepping out of my Mercedes E350 4Matic after someone hit me parked in a parking lot, the Mitsubishi is a fine vehicle. It's comfortable and looks rather well in my opinion. Almost all features trickle down in about 15 years from flagship Mercedes. (The inventors of the automobile and almost every feature on the modern consumer vehicle) Going beyond that, stop with your social media BS that you have become conditioned to reply with, similarly to a Pavlovian dog. You sound like an immature child. Don't reply to me on the future, if that is how you converse. (That gave you one chance) This reply was for you and this is the reply you get. I thought you'd have a more detailed and intellectual response. You don't want to go on. (Believe me) Just enjoy you suburban existence.

Not education well enough and putting everything into short term business profits. It breeds this thinking or lack thereof. We had a decent ride. We are well past our time. You are missing in your review the fact that this car loses the acceleration when is going up hills for more than 10 miles since the cell battery gets depleted and at that point, the fan stop working and gets overheated. Did you try to go up hills in this car for more than 10 miles?

One of the worst cars Iv driven: - poor reason from the cvt gearbox - the cars cvt gets confused with the ratios it wants to choose, so you get a lot of jerking, with the gears changing up and down even at constant accelerator input. - it's not anywhere near economic as it's marketed -it's a slow car It's just a boring car to get you from a-b

This might be a good lease but never a purchase. Once out of warranty, it will be difficult getting parts. The Mitsu network is far from what it once was in the late 70s/early 80s.

@@levaranoia It depends. To me, in the case of this vehicle. It’s cheaper to buy and more reliable to operate. the engine is quite old, but tried and proven to be long lasting, single overhead camshaft. not even double camshaft or turbo. but it’s very reliable. definitely not the fastest. In fact that’s why i bought it. Again you may consider things outdated i do not. It depends on how you define outdated. It’s a general term to mean different meanings to different people.
