Regarding sexton/forkner.. to say sexton wasn’t on forkners level isn’t doing sexton justice. If you ride without caring about crashing, you will be faster than those trying to get the bike home in one piece, but it will eventually put you on your ass. Sexton rode within himself, Forkner rode past his limits.. it got Forkner wins, and it got Sexton a title.

He works for Western Power Sports who started and own the FLY racing brand. He was a pro racer for years and was never successful in the USA. Had a ton of national number 30's for years. He won several German and European Supercross championships and tried to make racing a living. He was successful in making money, hence his nickname, JT$. He's good friends with a lot of the racers of his era and is hardlined in his opinions, leading to spats with iconic people like David Villamin and Chad Reed. He always admits he sucked at racing and was never successful, but can be sobering about how racers think. Also, he's been rumored to be the "Gay Suzuki rider" for a long time.

@nathanvanhuis5679
@nathanvanhuis5679 4 жыл бұрын
Also has to do with JMart just coming back from a Gnarly back injury that took him out of US professional racing for 18 months. Too much to ask of him to come off the couch into the premier class without having time to get up to speed or proving that he even can go fast again. Of course, this off-season he has done well and if those results translate into 2020 it may land him with a 450 ride in 2021. That being said, I am pretty sure I heard an interview with him or someone in his corner that said the plan is to stick on 250s through 2021. I would think this is the best route unless he comes out and kills everyone like James Stewart in '08, but that is highly unlikely.
@Natedoc808
@Natedoc808 4 жыл бұрын
@@nathanvanhuis5679 I couldn't agree more regarding JMart and his amazing recovery from that spinal injury. Was so stoked to see him line up at MEC. I thought original poster mistakenly wrote JMART instead of AMART. My comment is far more pertinent to AMart's situation and now having to likely do fill in for Savatgy on 450 on opposite coast from his 250 ride. I think asking JMart to ride a full 450 SX season coming back in is far too big of an Ask from a team. The fewer rounds will help his recovery during the breaks. Just stoked to see him walking.
@SOFTAILX
@SOFTAILX 4 жыл бұрын
@@Natedoc808 I understand the injury. I feel like he got screwed somehow over 2 years ago not getting a 450 ride after being a 2 x mx champ. He can handle the bike coming from an injury or not. He has to put it together in either class. I feel like he's done enough to get a 450 and hasn't. Maybe he doesn't want to and that's fine. This whole points system for these guys sux.

The fact they are gonna give Sexton a 450 ride and not Martin is a bit ridiculous in my humble opinion. If they move up him up after the way he won his SX title in afraid he is going to be a flop, nothing against Sexton personally that's just how I see it.

I think is more the riders fault, i mean how bad can a bike go bad in 1 year, and you hear all the shoot out reviews, that all bikes are great..
@Natedoc808
@Natedoc808 4 жыл бұрын
KTM drastically changes bikes from time to time, just like Dungey's 450SXF Factory Edition which Roczen just did not like at all and couldn't get comfortable on it. That being said, whether or not the bike is actually that bad, or the changes went the wrong way and the rider is hunting for comfy setup, McElrath said he didn't think he could win on that bike. Once a rider has that in their head, they are correct that they cannot win on that bike. These guys are so damn good that they can feel differences in the bikes that myself and 95% of riders would never be able to feel like a different engine bracket, etc.

What amazes me the 250 class is the lack of development with the riders, it’s a fo series, it’s split it’s supposed to be a feeder series to gain experience, it’s not a full 17 rds and it’s failed imo to develop riders into top tier premier riders “sooner”, eg before the fo series was introduced in 85, we had riders winning titles in the 250 SX class against the best riders in the US and the World in the most competitive eras of all times! 72-84, Marty Tripes won at 16 and 6 days LA Collesium against De Coster and many of the best from Europe and the US, won again same race in 73! Ron Lechien won in 83 at 16 his rookie year a round of SX, Hannah had 3 consecutive Sx titles by 23 no fo class in the era of real bikes real men no give me’s, no fo titles, just qualifying was a championship race, factory teams four riders deep at-least. Point is there is a point out system but riders are getting older and maturing later which is weakening US riders especially it clearly shows in MX and it’s only a matter of time in SX, the window for riders to win in the 450 SX class is shortened or nill, so we get more hyped up journey men in the 450 class, that had potential to be better outdoors and indoors. No one has won the premier SX title over 27, it’s a young mans sport even outdoors Ward at 29 is the oldest outdoor national champion back in the 80s, his last championship in the 500 class. so the system isn’t working is it. This class 250 west and east is full of mid late 20s riders! How old was JMB when he won his title in premier 250 SX 91? Tomac at 27 last chance and had he not been on 250s for so long would he have matured earlier, Barcia another still not a title contender a race winner yes but title contender not proven in the 450 class. I’m thinking more an more AC done the right thing moved up and will be Tomacs achilles heal this year, he could be the first guy since Dungey to win the title in his rookie year, if he stays out of trouble injury free and consistent, if he can do what Cooper Webb did last year get through the first few rounds in top 5 or better get a win by round 3 or 4 get that confidence in the big by class he could take control like Webb and be gone, difference is he doesn’t have a De Coster behind him with that experience of being there many times! But it’s been done before. Webb will be up there and the biggest threat to title and a repeat and Anderson will be up there too and want to get another title, injuries are the biggest factor/ competition in the 450s, still wrong bike for SX and it will take out more riders again this year than anyone else sadly. If Tomac can’t win the title this year he’s done, Id bet a slab he’ll retire @ 28, I don’t think he has the heart if can’t do it this year. Roczen I hope to be proven wrong but those wrists I don’t think will stand up the season against AC, Webb and Anderson freight train if they get going. I hope I’m wrong. Can’t believe he’s still okay 25, married an he has 2 outdoor 450 tiles with KTM/Suzuki, be good to see him win a SX prem title. Just don’t know if the tools are strong enough anymore, he has the skills and the heart though. Rd1 you can’t win it, but can defintiely lose it, though RC DNFd in 05 and still won the title, but I don’t see an RC 05 vintage in this group. Be good to see the SX get started though. Rumble in the jungle, time to kick the tires and light the fires. Good show boys, Mathes you have detuned a bit wheres the fire and brime stone of past years opinions, everyone’s getting so PC these days, why I miss guys like Hannah so much, he just held it wide open on the track and the mic and off the track, kissed the trophy girls or picked them up in his arms on the dias! that was winning🤙 Good hunting everyone🤘

canuckguy worried Yeah i hear ya, the 3 class’s were outdoors though, there were many pro races that weren’t AMA Nats as well, why guys got hardened up and matured or got spat out the back, many many good racers never made it, but that’s why the best were so good as well. I am not against the east west series, it just seems convoluted as to its purpose nowadays prob due to manufactures control over the AMA or they def have one if not strongest voices in decision making. I know 250s are the replacement of 125s and 450s the 250 also been around that, it is what is, but as usual if people just sing kum bye ya all will be fine the level will continue to decline and while people talk about competitiveness that’s relative to who’s on the line, eg if all are of similar level that doesn’t mean it’s great, it just means that’s the level. 250s will be interesting for sure this year, but is it doing the riders i that class any favours and some will argue seats are not available in 450s, so again that comes back to the chicken or the egg and the issue with what the lites class or whatever it is, is actually doing for the sport it’s growth and success for outdoors, it this becomes a SX only sport in the US it’s doomed to fail and beg me another US sport only. If good people watch and do nothing then the decline will continue SX and will be affected in time.You can say it bitching whining and I say to you real fans real friends family don’t pay lip service, social media is a voice, the fans will always be the game, players come and go, formatt s come and go, if you are one of those PC bystanders, fine , but I’ll still have my say. even if I’m the last one saying it. afk you think that youtube or face plant or any other media is about sucking the corporate kool aid go ahead be a sheep, suck the cool aid, I am no sheep, everyone is entitled to their opinion imo as long as it’s kept within no personal abuse which shows lack of and weak characters, but I will keep it on the pipe and pinned,

Not the same sport. Everything is bigger, faster, more dangerous. Riders are real athletes now, they are riding right on the edge just to be competitive. It's hundredths of a second now between fast and not even being there. Money, contracts, pressure, sponsors, social media, world press, expectations, social image, public opinion, cameras everywhere.
